leveling dungeons in retail vs classic

Did a wailing caverns on my hardcore hunter the other night. I built the group so that I was the only leather user. I got a lot of good armor but no bow. I did play retail for like a day and a half. I made a few alts and had fun trying various classic dungeons at low lvls, as well as doing some bgs. I have been playing a lot of hardcore classic and miss pvp. Retail was actually pretty fun i hadn't played it since december of last year. Hope you like this meme.

Honestly, both retail and classic are fun for different reasons. Retail is more fast paced and complex, classic is grindier but arguably more rewarding and more of an adventure, just depends on the mood you're in.

@@shawnmallon2833 There is no swimming involved, there was no need to do any of that, it's just put there as a comedic exaggeration, they could have gone from Darnassus in boat Darnassus/dark shore/ratchet, literally 5m tops if they get the ships in time, or If they decided to go from booty bay just run the way from stranglethorn, only a couple of hard mobs if they follow the road, easily avoidable, then boat and done, maybe 10m to cross the whole thing if they never got the griff, and that's cause as an alliance they wanted to go to a horde dungeon, could as quickly gone for SW's Stockades, Dun Morogh's Gnomeran, or westfall's Deadmines. you are reading too much into it trying to defend retail.

I remember leveling to 40 in retail without needing to party up. Heck; I didn't even know you could do quests with others. When classic came out; I was practically forced to party up to finish several quests. I guess it depends who you ask, personally; I much prefer the social aspect.

Now do a comparison of raids in classic where you spam frostbolt against a target dummy boss that dies so quickly that he does 0 mechanics versus mythic raiding in retail. Or high mythic+ keys to any dungeon in classic. Sure leveling is faceroll in retail but the endgame content is also 100X harder than anything in classic.

from watching this you might think that classic wow is boring and dull, while retail is exciting and enjoying. this is only the surface in my opinion. retail is a resemblance our decadent society, while classic resembles more how real-life actually is. usually you don't get eat cake all the time (experience action without any effort as in retail). it's almost like doing drugs, because the sensations provided by nature are not enough. you will need more, and more intense triggers. it is unhealthy in so many respects. in reality you have to grind resources with a lot of effort, prepare and cook your food until you can finally eat. this is more resembled by classic wow. the feeling of reward is much greater after a long phase of effort and extending resources. this is normal, natural and healthier. that's why, imo, classic wow in general provides more enjoyment than retail. that's why, imo, classic wow hasn't died out after all this time. since blizzard has revived classic, it has had multiple hypes. and even before that, through all the other addons, classic wow has been alive on private servers. I also think retail is totally overengineered. it is difficult to create a good game. but it is contra-intuitive to create an excellent game.

On one hand, classic gives you a real adventure and a reason to travel the world for items that really make an impact on your leveling experience On the other hand retail offers you access even when there are not many players on your server so that you get the chance to enter the dungeon at any time. The best soltion wouldve been x-realm but without the dungeon teleportation. If there is no need to interact with the world then there is no reason to call it "MMO"-rpg. There is nothing massive about the game anymore in retail.

retail dungeon leveling is such a pain you feel like a god level 10. monk especially, because you just get lifestealing on your weapon, then pull everything and spam spinning crane kick by level 49, you can't even hope to match 10% of said monk's damage output. if you try to heal them, the heals are nerfed to the point you could dump your entire mana bar and it won't heal them to full hp if you're running dungeons you're better off finding a lvl 10 twink to carry you, which i'm sure is fun for everybody involved :^)

I realize in BC they made leveling faster, but it wasnt a complete joke until the next expansion. At that point you couldn't possibly do all the quests in a zone without out leveling them and you really had to try to die. Then I took some time off and when I came back even the dungeons were a joke. I remember asking which mob I should trap and the tank laughed.

Hardest part about running dungeons like this is actually if the dps decide to do dmg, cus it fucks my pull. But yeah Stack up on some swift pots, use the sprint talent that monks have and just GO expel harm heals my for like 70% of my health lmao. Hidden satyr enchant does way too much dmg, you could run dragonling if you want but i like burst trinket + pit fighter. Speed boots. If youre giga chad and lucky you can do some dungeons like Wod and Mop to have a chance for gear to drop with Speed stat like i have on my helm. Its like my fav form of twinking now with how much they gutted lvl 20 twinks. Rock a fun PvE twink - too bad i cant timewalk with it.

If your first experince doesnt feel like anything but boring, it doesnt encourage you to play more. Retail has big problem retaining new players cause everything feels numb and boring and meanignless until you get the mythic stuff. And until then you have seen the same place so many times... "game gets good after 100 hours" doesnt inspire many people.

@@aapoapina7390 thats why they sell boosts and u get a free boost every xpac. + leveling is very fast. it takes maybe 6-8 hours to get to max doing timewalking. I cant argue that the leveling experience isnt fun but im not really sure what they could to do fix that. most retail players DONT want leveling to take long from what i can tell and blizz has designed the game with these people in mind. classic and retail are basically completely different games at this point lol. its hard to even compare the two at this point because the design philosophies are so different

wotlk classic was fun to leveling and do Naxx once in. Endgame is just so boring and simple to have staying power outside of just leveling. Anyways, back to retail mythic prog and pushing M+.

My SM runs on classic looked pretty close to the ones on retail. Warrior runs in, makes a big pack, the three mages AoE it down, repeat. Didn't a group do the entire cathedral at once in the recent classic HC tournament?

Im not sure i did not watch the hc tournament. The main difference is a lvl 10 healer monk soloing the dungeon, vs 3 of the best aoe farming class. On season of mastery i played healer priest and would do 4 mage sm runs and it was fun.

I he had locked his level just to pull this sort of things off given you gained at least a level between the first and last clip while he gained none. And frankly that's pretty cool. I like this guy's dedication... Unless it's some scheme to boost people through dungeons. Anyway, that's not any more degenerate than my 7-8 min ZF tomb runs back when classic released. The limiting factor was the amount of dungeon resets per hour. I ran those AoE comps all the way to LBRS for some crazy xp/hour. Except this guy most likely spent a lot of time getting all this gear with the enchants and gems, while I could get 3 mages and a tank in less than 20 min.

This reminds me just how incredibly bad and depressing Retail is, no danger, no journey, no community...just a dull, repetitive hamsterwheel and a raid, mythic+ simulator. The fact your character is a god able to solo 100+ mobs from lvl 1 and nothing actually matters in the world is when i look for the uninstall button on battle net and don't look back, the game is just so off putting... It's definitely not WoW...or even an MMORPG anymore, gone completely off the rails and i watched it all gradually happen over 2 decades.

I play wotlk atm which is still a similar experience and literally nobody does that while leveling. People invite who they can and even offer to help most of the time. Never seen anyone toxic so far after 100hrs of playing. I tell you if I log into retail wow and post 3 Cutting edge achievements to the groupleader of a +7 key he would decline me because i play a class thats slightly below S tier....

Ehh, i do like the convenience of retail dungeons. You definitely meet people, and have conversations on classic. Hardcore has revitalized classic, and I think part of why people are more social and patient with the classic (hardcore) dungeons is the threat of your character being deleted, as well as how long it can take to form and travel.

Classic dungeons actually train you slowly for raids at 60, while retail caters to cry babies who want to speedrun a dungeon in 5 minutes because they have dinner waiting on them. Then when they get max level, you have a bunch of idiots who have no clue what they're doing.

It's even worse cause somehow you go to your first raid and ppl are already expecting you to know every bit of the boss mechanics cause they need to do it in 5m, it doesn't matter if you've never done it, go watch a YT video and spoil the fun of discovery. It's not just WoW retail, it's every MMORPG, it's the fact that ppl only care about "endgame" so every company dumbed down on every single dungeon before that, its all a breeze till you get to "endgame" (if you didn't get bored before that) and then go jump in groups of 10-20 other dudes you don't know and want to rush everything.

I tried shadowlands about a year ago. Fast to level etc. But i came to not enjoy the mythic plus dgs as heals due to people dying faster than my heals could heal them. Not every heal is insta cast. I said f it by then. Too bad becuase i did find it fun for the most part

Mythic+ can be very overwhelming especially for healers. It can be fun, but helps if you try lower keystones to gear and learn the mechanics and how to use cds. Mythic + healing can really be tricky until you learn where to use your cds throughout the pulls in the dungeon

TBH: In Retail you would have cleared like 2-3 Full Dungeons in these 55min esp. as a Tank or Healer since you get instant Invites to Dungeons xD if you need this time for a Leveling-Dungeon you are slow af ^^ Max. 15-20 mins and this in a Dungeon like UBRS or so xD

I mean I get your point but why completly butcher the message by showing a twink carrying you through a dungeon, just like this video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJDKfqNtjJeWn7s) does not show how level 1 in classic is easy, this video does nothing to actually "compare" classic and retail, rather just poisons the well.

Scarlet Monastery is not a retail dungeon -_- Where's is the fun in being showered in gold / loot, running over every mobs, pulling the entire dungeon ? WOW used to be fun because it was about the adventure as a whole. Retail is stale in comparison in that regard, no more adventure, no more stories, you just click buttons and see your screen explode in all kind of flashes and numbers. You could be doing that in any other game. What was special about WoW were the people you met along the way, the sense of journey coming from the imensity of the world. This game has just become a gift dispenser for the spoilt generation.

Oh WoW look at that, you log in to play the Game and you actually play It, amazing. And look at the other you log in to play the Game, you play walking simulator for 1 hour and you have to log out cause you have a Life. Insane right?

Retail WoW is clearly just a joke of a game, Blizzard should just shut it all down and delete the retail servers...only Classic Hardcore offers any kind of enjoyment as WoW did 19 odd years ago...

That's because it's not a fair comparrison. Try doing some high-level Mythic+ dungeons, the content people actually play, and you'll see people strategising and talking with each other.

@@RicksonGM the video is called "leveling dungeons" they were both leveling dungeons, but ya you will need more coordination in m+ which will result in more communication
