One of the many reasons that makes this scene rememberable is Eliot’s hyper awareness of his surroundings and situation. It has been shown many times throughout the show’s runtime that he is able to assess the situation in a short time before reacting, and Hardison knows this. Hardison, being extremely proficient in forgeries, was able to recognize the fake badges. Hardison calmly and clearly states the badges illegitimacy first to signal to Eliot the go-ahead.

Eliot's situational awareness varies according to what's needed by the plot. In this example, if Eliot is so hyperaware of his surroundings, why did his coffee get spilled at all? Why didn't he spot the woman being chased, preemptively move out of the way, and thus keep his coffee unspilled? But that ruins a good line for Hardison, so oh well.

Eliot and Hardison came out from a corner, completely unable to see the lady coming at full speed. I think your reaction to an innocent response is what's actually petty here. More to the point, I see that you don't understand what it means to be "hyper-aware" of one's surroundings -- and I point out that you mentioned "surroudings" first and foremost. Professionals in violence are in fact constantly aware of what's happening around them, and they don't round a corner without checking unobtrusively and without giving themselves plenty of room to maneuver. You can say what you want about his quick reaction to verbal cues, but good awareness of surroundings was NOT demonstrated in this scene. That doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it for what it was -- a TV show, but nevertheless.@@SilentZieth

I wrote a book using Kane as the main love interest, combining eliots personality. Amazingly found a guy with those exact traits and married him. My ret marine husband has the heart of a paladin, and is protective of women, children, animals and people he calls family. Mess with them. You mess with him. My husband even has the insta kill look when he is about to lose his cool. 2 years ago a friend was being threatened by some gang members. My husband sped into the parking lot and got out holding a heavy plumbers wrench and a 5 foot pipe. The men with pewpews got scared and backed off. Husband and friend get into van and race away as fast as the vam could go. At one point taking a sharp corner on two wheels to escape. He walks in acting like nothing happened and my friend was like "This badass terrified gang members." Lol😂
