Also, I have to commend you guys for the empathy you show towards the characters and their struggles. The closest real life analog to ODM gear is a fighter plane. Like a fighter plane ODM gear burns fuel to build energy. You have the thrusters and the line reels to climb into the sky higher which adds to your potential energy as well as create some forward momentum adding to your kinetic energy) These two combined are your total energy which is trade back a forth in combat to maintain it and maneuver around your target. diving down you lose altitude but gain speed which can then be traded back into altitude by climbing. If youre a smaller person you will be able to manage your energy better as you have a higher thrust to weight ratio. the more energy you save the more you have to "spend" on fancy maneuvers and redirections. A heavier person will find it much harder to gain and maintain energy both potential and kinetic and will lose more when they maneuver around.

I think in terms of fictional tech, ODM gear is a really great example of the perfect balance between believability/realism and fantasy. Even though it’s a bit far fetched and wouldn’t work well in the real world, it is works with real physics, established technology, and laws of nature. And since there are already fiction aspects of attack on titan, the ODM gear fits right in.

I love that throughout this part of the arc we get to see Levi a little closer, even if nothing is spoken outright in these scenes. The patch that Levi gave that kid, it wasn't Ivan's. Earlier, we saw he went to one of his squad member's (Petra) and lifted the tarp a little to reveal the patch. He cut it off her jacket. But after that kid lost his other friend and Ivan's body, Levi gave him Petra's patch and said it was Ivan's. It's much more heartbreaking(to me at least) watching that scene and knowing he gave up the only piece he had left from any of his squad member's to someone else so they could have *something*.

I was one of those viewers who absolutely thought Levi and Petra were supposed to get married when I first saw these eps back in 2014, and BOY, I WAS DEVASTATED. I used to read so many angsty fanfics, and rewatched their few scenes together a lot 😂 Season 2 took YEARS to come out, and I wasn’t reading the manga yet, so that’s how I coped, lol. Some (probably meaningless) fun facts that I learned: Linked Horizon, the band that made most of the OPs, made an album about some AoT characters, and one of the songs was about Petra and her devotion to her Captain (her voice actress sings it!), and it’s great, but also very sad 😢 And Levi’s voice actor, Hiroshi Kamiya, adored Petra and shipped them, too!

That scene with Petra father was filler, same with Throwing bodies away. and there was never really anything between them. Petra greatly admired, respected and had a crush on Levi but that's all. He treated her like a subordinate and friend

this fucker caused everyone else to lose the bodies of their loved ones including Levi's squad and Levi still had it in him to give that dude PETRA's patch to make him feel better. I love Levi's character and how actually selfless he is. Because what I thought of when I first saw this was that the creator possibly wanted to highlight what type of character is created by unending hardships and how someone can be selfless in spite of that. Because there is the thought, that at the end of the day Levi probably knew this was one of that recruit's first time losing loved ones, coming from someone who has lost people over and over again, and to extend kindness past your own personal sufferings. Levi is forever goated.
