Hey that’s cool. You must be familiar with Lucky Thompson on tenor with Slam Stewart, bass, playing over Rhythm changes. They take it through the cycle.

i took a few lessons from randy back in FL in the late 70s - one of the first lessons was to learn/transcribe jordu from tal farlow fuerst set, which has the long sequence of 2-5s. even back then it was key instructional material. i had a conflict & couldnt continue with lessons, but i still use a bunch of what i learned over that brief period. plan on picking up his stuff.

Just a few years ago, when I became obsessively interested in incorporating some jazz lines into my blues to spice it up a bit, I took a handful of lessons from a local legend. He spoke of Randy Vincent's books and the Bebop Bible, with the highest regards. I still haven't bought any of them though because between the videos and books (I've bought of yours) you have available and the Truefire jazz and blues courses, I've been kept very busy and I've been learning at a frenzied pace. However, when the time comes for me to take things to the next level and step up my game, with afore mentioned instructor's and your endorsements, Mr. Vince's books are the first place I will turn.

I like this book. I think all of Randy Vincent’s books are great!!! It would really great to learn by ear ideas you like. Taking a blues and slowing it down and learning phrases you like IS AMAZINGLY USEFUL!!!!

Awesome. Thanks pal, really love this books series. Great to see it back

the cycling dominant material looks great - I have written a version of Django - by John Lewis and MJQ - in E minor - enabling the use of string drones and so on - but need more ideas for the cycling dominant parts. This seems ideal.

Levi Clay, could I get some advice from you? Since I can't afford all of the books at the same time, perhaps you could recommend which book to purchase first? The Cellular Approach,, Line Games, The Guitarists Introduction to Jazz, or Building Solo Lines from Cells; For All Instruments? While I'm certainly not fluent at sight reading, I have come a long way with reading music for guitar in the past 6 months.
@LeviClay5 жыл бұрын
Well the question is ask is are these the right books for where you are now? Or are they too far ahead? I’ve not read intro to jazz, and the last one is just this one but for all instruments (so no string info)

@@LeviClay That's a damn good point. I'll do some more research about each book and decide. Thanks.

Hey bro look around for used copies as well they tend to be a lot cheaper. I have found quite a few over the last couple of years at half price or less just looking around online and hitting up second hand book stores 👍

As a 4ths tuning player, no tabs is a plus. But the best thing about this video is that it's jazz on a Hydra. Every part of me was happy to watch it. Also I'll be buying the book using your link. Spend those 50 cents wisely.

Then get his “building solo line from cells for all instruments” if you’re in 4ths - same book but without guitar specific fingerings

@@LeviClay could you send me a link for that? Only fair I use your affiliate link since you pointed me in that direction.

Hey Levi, I have a Ibanez AS53 TKF Semi Hollow Body Electric Guitar and it sounds pretty good with my Vox AC15C2, (still learning Jazz - only newbie) however, do you think it would be best to change the humbuckers to Seymour Duncan SH-4/SH-2?
@LeviClay5 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say you'd need to to be honest!
@JohnCranberry235 жыл бұрын
@@LeviClay well, if I'm honest, your guitar sounds amazing compaired to mine. I think the humbuckers in the guitar are pretty crap for jazz tone. There is a pair on ebay for around $250, I might go for it based on the reviews of the SH2n.

Cool saw your comment Levi regding using ear when person mentioned tabs ( i actually like tabs more then notes but downside is that they are only for guitarists) and you say use ear, couldn't agree more and does that have issue with visualization? Might sound silly but when i played without watching at fret-board i always played more melodic and better, latter i lost it for last few years i returned to that to play - i do practice in my mind ☺ without guitar and then i use visualization, maybe it sound crazy i don't know.

tell me please.. what is "melodic cells" means? is this same as "approach note" or "enclosure note" ?
@jimkangas41764 жыл бұрын
melodic sequences might be a better description. You might also think of it as a motif although typically cells are eighth notes. Often 4 notes, but there are certainly others - 5, 7, etc.
