Good morning Dr, thank you for the recommendations. You are absolutely correct about the tips and hacks of this drug. I take my levrothoxin in the morning early, and makes quite a bit of difference in the way I feel. The longer the space between taking the drug and eating breakfast, the better the reaction if any. Thanks for a great video. You take care and good luck.

very informative video, thank you. Glad to have found this channel and do enjoy your no-nonsense approach. One question. On the side effects of particular fruits that can cause absorption issues you mentioned "spacing out fruit consumption" could you elaborate? You mean time-wise? Amount-wise?

Appreciate your feedback.Usually, from the time you take Levothyroxine you want to take in these fruit that can interfere with absorption at least one hour after ingestion.

Great overview, Dr John. What is your opinion of using Cytomel in conjunction with Synthroid?
@ThinkYourHealth
@ThinkYourHealth 3 жыл бұрын
Appreciate your question and thanks for stopping by.I always find that cytomel is less predictable than synthroid with some fluctuations in thyroid levels. Not used it that much, but on selected patients.In fact a close friend of mine was on the combination after thyroid surgery and not feeling that well after T4 substitution.As you know Therapeutic trial using doses of T4 and T3 attempt to mimic normal physiology . Have seen use after thyroid surgery and ablative therapy with radioiodine.There is also the indication to use it when T3 is at the lower or below the reference range.

I have been taking Thyroxine on and off for several years. I was initially diagnosed with slightly low thyroid 5 years ago. I broke out in a groin rash after one week so the medication was altered to T4 when the rash had cleared up. Same result so I gave up, it was not critical. Two years later I had a large pituitary tumour and as a result I have no Pituitary now. Same issue started taking Thyroxine, same rash came back, time and time again.I would drop Thyroxine for two weeks and the rash would disappear, and so on. Like a bolt from above I realised the rash was Jock Itch. Took a course of anti fungal drugs and that solved it. I had actually Googled Thyroxine/Fungal Infections, there is a vague connection.😮

Appreciate you sharing your experience with this audience. Most common side effects related to the skin are alopecia and rash.Howver, the frequency of this is not defined.In post marketing surveys the following skin changes have been observed.Authors of studies included in parenthesis: Lichenoid eruption (Kaur 2003), urticaria (Sala 2008).Here are the respective studies: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/12771481/ and pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18517088/.The association between infection such as fungal infection is rather due to hypothyroidism.This is because hypothyroidism, i.e lack of the thyroid hormone affects your immune system.Here is an article looking at that association: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33904923/#:~:text=Plain%20language%20summary-,Hypothyroidism%20has%20a%20detrimental%20effect%20on%20the%20immune%20system%2C%20which,immune%20response%20against%20respiratory%20pathogens.

@@ThinkYourHealth I find it interesting that the Fungal problem is attributed to Hypothyroidism/Immune System by doctors, and yet in my case it was experienced when my thyroid levels would have been normal. When I stopped taking thyroxine and must have experienced very low Thyroid, the rash resolved it’s self. Of course after I lost my Pituitary it was not optional, and until I happened on the solution the situation was very grim. I couldn’t take Thyroid, but I could not do with out it. I had progressed to Amour medication in believing that I was immune to Thyroxine, and I still use that medication. It would be interesting to now go back onto synthetic Thyroxine but my Endocrinologist is not in the mood to experiment.

Not sure if Dr will see this. But my mom has been on levithyroxine and has developed odd, full body muscle twitching. Almost like she’s having a seizure. It seems to be most when she is trying not to go to sleep or trying to wake up before she’s ready to be awake. She’s not young anymore and can’t just hop up and be active like before. Which is fine. But I cannot figure out it the spasms are related to drug interactions or maybe too much levithyroxine. Should I try lowering the dosage on my own? See what happens? Or is this a terrible idea?
@ThinkYourHealth
@ThinkYourHealth 2 жыл бұрын
There are multiple reasons for an older adult to twitch. If you are concerned about Levothyroxine “level “would get a TSH as well as a free T4. You can also ask your health care provider to review her list of medications.

Wow, I have been having so much pain since my Angina was first discovered. It looks like three of the drugs I am taking are at least possible causes of these pains. I have been reporting the pains as orthopaedic pains as it feels like my knees are in a horrendous mess but X-ray shows mild osteoarthritis. I have been taking another drug for peripheral neuropathy, which can also be caused by two of the drugs I am taking. Wow what would I give to be able to walk my beautiful dog whenever he wanted, to pick up my grandchildren and give them a hug. I might be able to get fitter with an increase in my physical movements. I might not be awake shortly after taking my night time drugs, I might once again get a good nights sleep! Please tell me your videos are true and honest! Getting on for 7 years of misery since it all started. I might yet get to enjoy my 60’s again but pain free in my 70’s. What do you think?

Martin, keep moving unless your doctor specifically tells you not to...even ask your doctor about physical therapy...if I am watching TV, I lie down on the sofa and during commercials I elevate my hips and do bicycle exercises ...if you don't have commercials on your TV services, every 15 minutes stand up and do some kind of moving, exercise, walk to the kitchen and back (not for ice cream)...just keep moving...Please try this...

It depends on your thyroid function(TSH and free T4).If they are abnormal you would need the medication.Just as important is to figure out what caused the thyroid dysfunction in the first place.( By the way your thyroid "slows" down when you get older!)

Yes, more of a natural thyroid substitute compared to Levothyroxine or even a T3 substitute.There is some evidence that it helps with weight loss.however, there are less long term studies on this type of thyroid extract.The US sometimes known as armour thyroid(I believe Hillary Clinton is taking this).
