I agree with Levy changing up his openings. For the Karpovs of the world, its fine to have a tight repertoire, but he has to be careful not to be caught out. Also we've seen from his play that he's tactically pretty good, with endgame understanding, so the Sicilian could work for him. It's a good opportunity in an event where he can test in proper conditions and see how it feels.

12:17 Sure it may be the rating privilege, but Levi is also sick and he said that he really doesn't want to play these games too much. Also, FIDE (at least to my knowledge) had not yet approved these matches to be counted for rating, so Levy didn't even know that rating was on the line.

One of the greatest things about chess is the fact that it affects nothing about the "real" world in a strict direct sense. It does not cure famine or stop war, nor it creates such tragedies. Yet it is such an endeavor of the mind, that captivates the attention of masses and that becomes political sometimes (elite entertainment for some country´s leaders trying to PR the shit out of their institutionalized carnage, the Fisher era itself being easy examples of politization of chess). To Analyse and follow Levy´s Path to become GM might seem so inocuous and yet his position as a person of interest in chess makes us watch and practice and become better humans overall.
