Hi Matthew! We actually have something called a "View Limiting Device" that's meant for that exact reason! They fit on any glasses, but of course you still need something covering the sides so the frames we have to compliment them are the Golden Eagle Sports (our safety rated frame) or the Hawk Convertibles. You can find those View Limiting Devices here: flyingeyesoptics.com/accessories/#ViewLimiters

Great vid, Lewis. While insanely interested in aviation, I don't think I'm ready for flight training at this point in my life, so no need for the glasses, but still entertaining. Can you do a reaction video on Addison Smith's video from a few months ago where he had an engine failure after takeoff? I know engine failure is something you train for a lot with your students, so I would be interested to hear your take on how he handled the situation from the CFI perspective.

I’ve enjoyed my flyingeyes sunglasses/reading glasses for a few years now. My only complaint is that pre/post flight without the headset to keep them clamped to my head they tend to slip forward when I tilt my head down. Suspect this is as I have a smaller head (hopefully not my brain 😅😅) but would be nice to have temple arms angled in more. Not a deal-breaker but slightly irritating.

I bought a pair of Aviators when I started flying (the clues in the name, right?!) and had the same issues - also a lot of pain on the bridge of the nose even when not using a headset, possibly due to the weight. I begrudgingly switched to my "daily driver" Oakleys, which were much more light and comfortable, but I also have to rest the arms on top of my headset (due to the broken noise-cancelling seal, and also some head pain), which looks ridiculous but at least is functional. That said, a problem I haven't solved, is the fact I often have to take them on and off all the time, because they are "too good" - so I'm interested to know what the low-light performance is like? Probably not a huge issue in Florida, but in Norway the light is often at a very annoying junction between too bright/glarey without sunglasses, and pitch black with sunglasses on, especially in the winter with the low sun and possible snow-glare... You mentioned that these were "more effective" than the Oakleys, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are darker in low-light situations. What do you reckon?
@LewDixAviation
@LewDixAviation 4 жыл бұрын
In my short history with the ones I’m wearing in this video, I’ve noticed that while they protect my eyes very well from the sun, the lenses are clearer than other sunglasses I’ve worn. I used them as the sun was going down the other day and had no issue.
@FlyingEyesWorld
@FlyingEyesWorld 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Russell! We totally understand this issue, and because of that we offer gradient tint lenses in neutral gray and copper. It sounds like those might be the solution you're looking for! You can find them in almost all of our frame styles.
@capta1nc
@capta1nc 4 жыл бұрын
@@FlyingEyesWorld Thanks for the reply - gradient Kingfishers do seem like a nice option... Maybe I'll give those a whirl first and see, I suspect a "one season fits all" lens isn't really possible, since in the winter if there is snow on the ground, I'd need the gradient to be the other way round :)

@ralbertin
@ralbertin 4 жыл бұрын
I’ve been wearing that exact pair (blue tint lenses) for about a year and a half now. They are vastly superior when it comes to “no sound leakage” and the thin arms are great. HOWEVER, after 2-3 hours of flying non stop with the A20s over them they start to dig in your head all the same. Don’t get me wrong - still think they’re awesome, but haven’t solved the problem completely on longer flights. My other complaint is that I don’t like the sepia look everything gets with the sapphire lenses - but I assume it’d be different with the other tint options, I was just too lazy to return them after I got them
@LewDixAviation
@LewDixAviation 4 жыл бұрын
I can appreciate that review. Anything clamped onto the side of a pilots head is going to be felt eventually. It’s just a fact. The sepia in these are definitely a change from my other sunglasses but I love it!
@FlyingEyesWorld
@FlyingEyesWorld 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Ricardo, it sounds like the Kingfishers might be a bit too large of frames for you. I would strongly recommend trying out the Golden Eagle Sports or the Kestrel Aviators instead, as they are a little smaller and typically solve the issue you're describing when the Kingfishers are too large for the wearer. As for the sepia look, that only applies to our mirrored sapphire lenses and there's a similar tint in the copper lenses that's not quite as strong. All other lens styles we offer are neutral gray when wearing them! I hope this helps. Please reach out to support@flyingeyesoptics.com or give us a call at (512)213-2390 and we can help you further!

Hey Lew! Big fan, here! Great stuff! I finally did my first solo after a long time. It would be so kind of you if you comment on it (posted on my little channel) and let me know of your opinion.

Surprised that there are sunglasses made especially for pilots? I’m surprised anyone works be surprised. Ummm “aviators” (since 1937) Cheers

They look good. But 10% doesn't quite make a big difference for a poor student pilot. I guess I'm going to continue looking like a moron

We just recently added "PayPal Pay in 4" to our site because we know getting into the aviation industry can cost a lot up front, but we believe protecting your eyes are so important! You can use LewDix's discount code and split your purchase over 4 payments. Also keep in mind our lifetime warranty is free and covers your glasses breaking for almost any reason! Give us a call at (512)213-2390 or email us at support@flyingeyesoptics.com if you have any questions.
