And this conversation is why LewDix Aviation is my favorite aviation channel out there. I know there are a ton out there, but this channel is so authentic. Watching this channel gives me the bug to fly even more because of how much fun is had in the cockpit, as well as just seeing highly experienced pilots just cracking laughs in the cockpit. It shows that aviation brings so much joy to the pilots that have a true passion for it. Love the podcast, keep them coming!

To be flat out honest I have the most fun watching your content than the others that I follow. Most of the time it’s just them flying the plane by themselves and it’s dry. They might have some interesting points or some neat destinations they go to but it’s just not the same. Being able to have fun and enjoy flying especially during flight training is how it should be and of course all while being safe. I wish I would of came across this sooner but I am going through older videos trying to catch up. Another reason why I enjoy your stuff is because you are local. Watching you fly out of my home airport is exciting to see and plus it helps me for when I start training there. Thanks for all you do and it’s my pleasure to support.

The comment about how the presence of the camera makes you more aware. I record almost all of my flights and review them. I've got almost 400 videos uploaded to youtube and only a tiny fraction of them have been published. Because of that I tend to forget that the camera is there. That said, I find that recording my flights, dropping the tracklog into cloudahoy, and then linking the video into the cloudahoy debrief really helps me figure out what things I did in a flight that I want to focus on changing for the next flight. That's a big part of why I record almost all of my flights.

Enjoying the series! I'm getting back into my flight training after a 1 yr hiatus due to family needs. I'm studying like mad and sim flying, I was 1 lesson from solo when this happened. How best should I kick the rust off? 1 month before back in the seat. Cheers, Victoria

This is the exact reason I also love to watch SoCal flying monkey and Stevie Triesenberg! SoCal FM does sorta play the KZbin clickbait game but leaves the clickbait up to whatever he does after landing (ex. Flying to Mexico for vacation, flying to a concert, etc) and Stevie because she is just so diligent and fun to listen to and also makes the destination or the goal an equally important component of the video, so the flight itself doesn’t become compromised

The algorithm has cultivated people's tastes to be reduced to the lowest common denominator - and rewards only those who perpetuate that. There are a lot of content creators out there making authentic and thoughtful work that go completely unseen. I have tried to elevate those more obscure talents out there through any platform I can. The "content" I have made and am most proud of has 200 views or something. People don't share what has meaning though, they share what garners attention.

I’ve had to block several content creators / distributors on Instagram. Not because the content wasn’t genuine … but because to me it seemed like they were doing unsafe things. Some of it initially looked “cool” and “exciting” but as a new pilot it definitely didn’t seem like the type of pilots I should be learning from. Just not setting a good example and clearly producing “wow factor” for views. Blocking them has been great, for me. I hope other new pilots do the same.

Hell yes you're apprehensive the first time you go fly with someone. No FBO or flight school in the country will give your the tiniest Cessna without a checkout. They don't know if you can fly at all, they don't care about your certificate. I was doing a checkout flight with an instructor once to join a club; we taxied to the non-movement area boundary, and he straight up told me what to say to the tower. He legit thought I didn't know how to do it, a private pilot with 300 hours, all out of a neighboring class D airport, and he had my complete background. He did it exactly the same way as he would do with a student on the first lesson. And then you have Dan Gryder lamenting that no-one does AQP. What AQP, people are complete shit because they get their license and then they never freaking fly.

as someone who has been involved in this sort of thing since the start of E-Sports streaming, i can honestly say this.... FRAPS WAS PURE CRAP!!!!!!! :D but seriously... i've always been of the mindset that, if you enjoy the content, that you provide then that's the main thing. yes it's great to produce stuff that people enjoy don't get me wrong, but as far as "the numbers" are concerned... dont sweat the numbers... some people take them really to heart and sometimes it shows (lack of content on a regular basis for example). basically it's as you say.. if people enjoy it they will watch if they don't then they won't. it really is THAT SIMPLE. that said, you are making conent geared to a specific audience and you do have to cater to that, but there will always be those people that are like... no radio call? no checklist. and those are the people you just ignore.
