Jay Shetty is an award-winning host, storyteller, Internet personality, and viral content creator. Since launching his video channel in 2016, Jay’s viral wisdom videos have garnered over 7 billion views and gained over 35 million followers globally. He is one of the most viewed people on the internet internationally.
After meeting a monk when he was 18, Jay started redefining success for himself. He wanted a life of service, impact, and passion as opposed to money, fame, and power. After graduating with a 1st class BSc (Hons) Degree, Jay went to live as a monk across India and Europe at age 22. He traded his suits for robes, shaved his head, and lived out of a gym locker for 3 years. After his monk experience, Jay moved back to London with no money to his name but started speaking at business schools about stress and pressure.
His career launched as a coach, and he was invited by Arianna Huffington to be the Host of HuffPost Lifestyle in New York City. He now works with companies like Google, L’Oreal, Facebook, Coca Cola, and Microsoft.
In his inspiring and empowering new book Think Like a Monk, Jay draws on his time as a monk in the Hindu tradition to show us how we can clear the roadblocks to our potential and power. Drawing on ancient wisdom and his own rich experiences in the ashram, Think Like a Monk reveals how to overcome negative thoughts and habits to access the calm and purpose that lie within all of us. How to Think Like a Monk is available for preorder and will be released on September 8th, 2020.
I had Jay on the podcast back on Episode 608, where he first shared his monk experience with you all, and today, he talks about training our minds to understand what we desire, who we are, what our purpose is.
Jay is an incredible guy, and I loved having him back on the podcast! He truly wants to help people around the world from what he’s learned, and his positive attitude is contagious.
Join me on Episode 953 to learn how to train your mind to find peace and purpose with ex-monk Jay Shetty!

@@laneewert I am sorry but Lewis, can you or somebody here help me to explain about the “08.26”? I feel a little confuse, I mean, I have tried and it is really hard to me to know automatically “does thing things meant to me?’’ or not by tasting on just in first day. Don’t we need to take at least one month or 2 weeks to go seriously about those new things and decide should we need to continue or not? Because, taste food is fast and easy, we can taste and FINISH it in 20 or maybe just 5 minutes and knowing for sure that the food is delicious and want to eat more. But, how about a very new things? I think it is more than 1 day to learn deeply. For example is in making relationship, how do I know this person is good to me or suit with me just by observing him or learn about his character just in 1 day? Or in other case like trying cooking, how I know it is my identity or not if I just attend my cooking class in day one and feel like ugh it is not for me? Does it look like I am not patience and quit too early? Please someone help me for this.

I just had a melt-down last night, trying to figure out what I want to do after I'm done with my bachelor (this summer), by being pressured to form a plan for my future I pressured myself and listened to people who kept telling me "your meditation will not help you with this, just make a choice". This was really helpful, thank you.

@@andiasri5564 hey there! I've had and still somewhat having same conflicts like you throughout the life but one thing did hit me as the conversation went on where Jay said it took him around 10 years to figure out what he's purpose is. So I think it's good to let our self, our ability and our intuition decide what pace is best for us in terms of trying things. A balance between practicality and finding purpose would be better to survive in day to today life maybe. I think reading the book will give the clearer picture about this along with other things :) I'm definitely going to read it.

This video was brilliant. The #1 thing I took away from this video was not to judge the moment, and thereby I won't amplify the pain/stress of it. I'm definitely getting his book! I love both of your channels, just don't comment much on them, but this was one of the best from you both. I so agree with that bit towards the end about never leaving someone without letting them know what they mean to you. I've been widowed, and I've learned the hard way that tomorrow is NOT guaranteed. I never leave those I love without telling them that I love them. 💛❤️💜

Your ego is always trying to make you think that you are not like the rest, that you are better. And that’s why I watch constantly conversations like this one which is reminding me that every extreme thought is only my ego. And I should find the neutral, where I don’t judge the moment and I see everything as an opportunity to learn and get better. The best part was hearing that the true confidence comes from knowing your self and also that you can live a fulfilling life without knowing what exactly is your purpose. The journey is more important and when you do things which makes you happy and serve others, who cares if you call this purpose.

Great! I learned so much. I took pages of notes, I watched it over two days. I needed to digest the information. Thank you so much for the insight into purpose, it has been a struggle for me.

Wow took away so very much! When you suffer or go through stuff its unreal how people ghost you and show up when you succeed. Yes yes totally resonates. Love it. Just cannot judge or resent if they are loved ones. Liked the way Jay stated when we are transformed those will see it and learn from us.. Looking forward to buying the book. Thank You!
