Jameela Jamil is an actress, model, presenter, and body positivity activist. Following a breast cancer scare in 2016, Jamil moved to America to become a screenwriter. She is known for playing Tahani Al-Jamil on the hit TV show The Good Place. Jameela is a big proponent of therapy as a way to move past our shame. It's an interesting struggle finding ones self, one's own human identity and value, in the midst of an organically diverse and chaotic world. A requirement is the fortitude to show gratitude "for the ability" to rise above it all personally and individually while giving credit where credit is due, (in a world that the majority of men have built and in a culture that attempts to truly value and afford such freedoms overall) having respect for the conditions afforded to us may be hard to grasp with that finger wanting to blame another (their identity) for any "percieved" pitfalls. A business model that does function on human strengths and weaknesses - for every need, want and angst the model intends to satisfy that inflated and/or deflated human ego (whether right, wrong or indifferent). What doesn't kill us, makes us stronger. The struggle has always been an internal struggle - finding and fulfilling ones God given purpose "as a human being", who is divinely and uniquely created. Generally, her opportunity came from her own effort to excel and from a man, in western culture, someone that saw her potential, encouraged her to take a chance, grow from the opportunity afforded, no matter the percieved flaws with what he, generally has built.(This is not intended to negate the role of all others as we play on this playground together). The conditions that have worsened reality for teenagers is this attempt to thrust "even more" divisive buzz words that continually create conflict and confusion for maluable youth (for the sake of gaining a semblance of power with and by way of "identity" politics? - someone always loses in this psychological war game). The irony comes with a human being lacking humility, taking things for granted, while attempting to relinquish personal responsibility under false pretenses and a fake persona Generally speaking, you personally, are either a "positive creative force for the whole" or you are a thief in waiting. (The dilemma, the dance with good and evil that lay in human-kind).

This was such an open and honest interview. Jameela sheds light on a lot of issues that people of colour internalised and brought upon low self esteem. One point that really stood out was people bleaching themselves to look lighter and caucasian people tanning.. I once had youth leader say in front of me that she would never want to be as dark as me, but just a light tan. JUST IMAGINE how that could have impacted someone with mental health and personal issues. I was lucky that I had supportive parents and peers that helped me through such times. I honestly think that being different and being bullied is a blessing in disguise because it forces you to look inward and gather strength from aspects of yourself that are not worldly and based on superficial traits. I built confidence through myself, whereas a lot of people who 'fit' in with normal standards of beauty eventually have NO FOUNDATION of who they truly are. Whoops that was long! Love you Jameela!

She is so spot on with Britain. I am South African living in Britain for the last 13 years and I can see how it's eroded my personality almost. You can't be outspoken (South Africans are it's in our DNA), you have to almost always apologise for everything and this brings on depression and anxiety. Absolutely WOW! She says it all, so well. Lewis, you asked the perfect questions. I love the way you responded to her sincerity and honesty. Jameela Jamil, you are a hero. The bull sack comment was extremely funny. I laughed, I cried, and even though I am not brown, I completely understood the body shame. I have been learning to accept beautiful brown isn't my birthright. I am honored by your expressions that put into words what I feel. I work daily to reconstruct myself using the techniques I learned in therapy and continue to invest in my growth. I felt validation, understanding, and hope listening to you. I am not "off" men but I am no longer believing that I need a relationship to be okay. I am growing into the person I want to be with and I have changed my battle of the sexes behavior into an acceptance of who I am. I am a twice widowed older woman who is far more comfortable wielding a chainsaw and using a log splitter than I am on a dance floor. Instead of feeling shame over my inadequacies I embrace my unique talents. Listening to you helps me shake off the shame I feel for using tools to enhance my life experience.
