I think Im getting it now. So the utility of Xrp is the reason the price will continue to climb regardless of what happens. The 1% rule is to create a ceiling for Xrp and that’s what’s going to give it its set price. The banks having to forcefully sell then buy back not to mention the use of its quickness and very low transaction fees, will cause a set price. What that set price is I have know idea but for the biggest financial institution on this planet to use them I would assume the price is going to be set extremely high. XRP price will have nothing to do with how much banks are 'holding' for investment purposes. XRP is about providing liquidity, think AMMs, I think you're missing the point though. It's very likely XRP will be reclassified considering it will be effectively a global base currency and the fact the Ripple is works very closely with the BIS. The value of XRP will depend on the value of the assets on the XRPL, transaction volume etc.

Interesting point Lewis but this may be the reason why alot of banks have become insolvent; I think they don't want banks to hold alot of the asset because it would be the same old game they played with gold, silver, copper, price manipulation. The asset may be group 2 but to the banks but the value is set a certain floor price and may rise due to economical and financial conditions to combat inflation. Robert Triffin mentions this in his theory and xrp is that unit to his model in my opinion.

Could a "client" of a bank, an avg joe who owns several thousand xrp, stake their xrp in an account with a bank? Granted, this would be with the understanding that the bank would use their xrp and therefore, the amount of xrp in Joe's account would diminish. The bank would pay interest on the total amount of xrp being staked in an adjacent account at a rate that makes using xrp cheaper than the bank's current method? I guess it could be agreed upon that whatever xrp was "burned" during the bank's holding it either could not exceed "x amount," guaranteeing Joe would definitively know how much xrp he would have at the end of their current contract?

Keep in mind that if xrp is to be the bridge currency, by selling their xrp, institutions would not be able to process as many payments, and in turn reduce fees... don't see them allowing that. In the end if JP Morgan bought at $1, and price moves to $10, that would mean they can process 10x more payments in dollar value. Perhaps the 1% rule is at point of purchase, not what it's value is in future. If so, 1) wouldn't they just buy at any sign of price dip, thus stabilizing minimum price. Furthermore, 2) not every institution may buy at same time, so their 1% value might be at say $50, and not $20, so with everyone worldwide buying at various price points the minimum price would still be much higher then it is now. The math just doesn't make sense.

Your theory is interesting but it is based on the current XRP price and that institutions will buy XRP at 0.50€ to hoard it. The concept behind XRP is to be used as fuel and agnostic exchange token without holding it, hence removing nostro-vostro mechanisms and free up capital. Institutions could invest at 10 or 100 € per token which certainly will not deplete their margins

Thanks for the sobering and heart breaking analysis. Seems we can NEVER get a consistent take on top end potential for XRP . I listened to Quincy's old take on debt / derivatives and the huge potential of XRP and I kind of prefer to go with that optimistic view rather than selling off significant portions of my bag.

IF (please see the all caps) this is to occur, it would have to occur very quickly to align with the all the markets in which it represents. If it were to remain a low pricing when the actual use cases kick in to overdrive- then the burn rate would be problematic for a 100 yr cycle that seems to be the most likely timelines for most currencies.

Banks don't want to hold billions of xrp or any others currency... hence on demand liquidity The idea is not to tie up funds in currency digital or fiat This is well understood and why xrp stands at 60 cents. Why Lewis doesn't get this I don't understand

XRP cant have a set price. It is a deflationary asset. The price has to go up over time to accommodate for the burning due to transactions.

Great video but your math isn’t correct. If XRP went up to $10 the banks total wealth goes up as well making their 1% exposure level larger. So, yes they would have to sell but not the full amount. If they make 20billion off Xrp the banks net worth also went up by 20 billion so they have a new definition of 1% as well. So yes they would have to sell but not the amount you stated.

I agree and also disagree with this, I think the price will be determined solely buy a set price vs utility requirements which I feel will be agreed upon when Ripple is in the correct position. The only way I can see a limitation on XRP holdings will be when it has taken its place as the world bridge currency. When XRP gets this status, none of us will be complaining about the price. I do agree about having a plan and setting a price for yourself to sell a certain amount of your holdings. Money comes and goes but time keeps ticking.

Initially I was concerned about this. However, when you think more and more about it, it actually makes sense. Whilst you focused on XRP, this pretty much applies to all tokens and will limit all of them from skyrocketing. Ultimately, it will be a battle of which token can garner support from institutions. Not only that it needs to be of sufficient value to enable large capital transfers (which will need the token to carry a sufficient value, I have heard of ~$500 in videos). To enable this you would need to have a standardisation to a single token or a couple, not multiple ones. XRP has already been dealing with banks and monetary bodies, so this stands them in good stead hopefully.

I would agree with you if it weren’t for a two main things that I view as flaws in this assessment IMO. 1) Regulations now are not concrete, and are subject to change with continued adoption. 2) With XRP being a utility asset, we can’t overlook the fact that the more it is utilized, the more is “burned” from circulation. Therefore raising its price floor until a potential amendment is passed to stop the burn rate at a certain supply level.

Banks can also raise the price of xrp. example: a bank needs to sell to meet the 1% limit. Thats money goes into holdings. Amount of capital in holdings go up therefore the 1% limit goes up.
