These stories of Lois almost marrying Luthor are reminiscent of the old 1930s "FLASH GORDON" comics (and the subsequent movie serials). Flash's girlfriend Dale Arden was frequently coerced/tricked/ hypnotized into marrying one of Flash's enemies. Sometimes, she'd do it voluntarily, in an effort to save his life. Like Supes, Flash still didn't marry her, despite all the close calls.

Although not a comic book - the Superman TV series "Lois & Clark" handled the whole Lois + Lex relationship really well. The focus of the series was the Lois Lane + Clark Kent/Superman romantic relationship. Lex Luthor was portrayed as a successful businessman who was secretly a criminal mastermind. And he was a major suitor of Lois Lane. So he was not only Superman's nemesis, he was also Clark's romantic rival. In fact, one season's big cliffhangers was with the wedding between Lois and Lex just about to take place - while Superman was helpless in a Kryptonite prison. (And I remember someone making the remark to Lois that as the new Mrs. Luthor she at least didn't have to change her initials.)

This was a fun trip - I think the reference from Johnny Nevada was the real-life wedding of musician Tiny Tim on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Luthor was already married to a woman from the planet Lexor in the 70s - her name was Ardora - too bad Superman didn't remember that. And the 70s expanded GBS cast! - Steve Lombard, Lola Barnett, Morgan Edge, and later Lana Lang as Clark's co-anchor on the 6 O'clock News (This deserves its own video).

I remember reading this story as a kid. As you say, you know things will be back to normal by the end of the story, but the fun is in seeing how they get there. Giving Luthor a "super villain costume" never made much sense (the later armored suit was at least practical), but it's kind of a kitsch classic now, I guess. Gotta love that "40 cakes" meme, the gift that keeps on giving. Maybe the Super-Dictionary could be a subject for a future video?

I'm not lying when I say this series made me more interested in older artists like Kurt Schaffenberger and his conteporaries, as well in Lois herself. If there were a new book with Lois as a lead I'd check it out just because of the antics in Superman's girlfirend Lois Lane. This playlist is what got me to watch this channel but Now I watch all of the Sasha arcs The treatment of Super girl and Power The mess that is Hal Jordan Sturgles with finding a punchline her own space in comics The crazy panels Ocasional deepdives in obscure characters that Sasha just desides to have a fixacion of for a few weeks, like spellbinder Recomendadions of less known comics (I know it may be known in some cicrles but still thanks for the Metro City vids) etc... etc...

Sasha, the "famous singer" Johnny Nevada references at 4:27 was undoubtedly "Herbert "Tiny Tim" Khaury, most famous for his falsetto rendering of "Tiptoe Through the Tulips" and a regular novelty act on "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson" during the late 60s. I wonder if anybody did market research back then to figure out the mix of people in their readership. Maybe everybody was just thirsting that much for Superman stories, even if they were mainly focused on another character? Or, did people start to realize that the human drama of people around Superman was what actually made all the Superman stories work? I mean, his first published story was stopping a wrongful execution, and it seems like half of the rest of his stories were focused on preventing Lois from figuring out he's Clark.

Would’ve made more sense as a good story if Luther’s device had already been used to send Superman a year into the future by henchmen, and his henchmen also used a device to sabotage the satellites. An escape from prison, a banishment of Superman, and a fake heroic redemption feels more like a Lex move. Taking a year to comfort and ingratiate himself into Lois’ arms and marriage just in time for Superman’s own personal flash forward into this gut-wrenching scenario feels more likely and logical.

I don't know if this concept has been done before but if in maybe an alternate universe be it an adaptation like my adventures with superman or just a plain old elseworlds story I'd like to see them being a couple before superman comes on to the scene and lois breaks up with lex due to her skills as an investigative reporter which leads to superman having to save her. This leads to them hooking up and luthor now has a solid reason to hate superman that doesn't involve his hair lmao. How far along into the relationship between lois and lex depends on what would be the most devastating I think so maybe they were going to be engaged before the betrayal and this leads lex into thinking that superman purposefully saved her to spite him a la Mr steal your girl.

But, while neglected a bit and feeling something towards Superman, she remains faithful to her husband even after death, and Kal thinks that, had they known each other earlier, maybe there could have been something. The first time I read a Lois/Lex pairing was at the beginning of Crisis on Infinite Earths, I was weirded out by the idea of a non-evil Lex, my kid brain had trouble getting around that, and that they where the parents of Alexander Luthor Jr., before he became evil and Superboy Prime became an incel.
