The thing about the Fermi paradox is once you find the info on where he was and what he was working on and the amount of things going on in the sky right above him at that time, you begin to see how that quote was used as a device skeptical. The crafts he saw for himself are what inspired him to think deeply enough about abundant life in the universe and he came up with that quote in conversation. I almost immediately disregard anyone who even brings it up as a mechanism in conversations.

Believing that there should be alien life because of complexity, time scale, vast numbers of planets , whatever, just isn’t good enough. Believing it doesn’t make it so. It’s just overwhelming for most people to even contemplate the idea that we may be unique and alone in the galaxy or perhaps in the universe…but it’s just as possible with the existing proof as abundant life.

@@steveg6035 How can you say this when the only probability we can predict for abiogenesis is based on a sample size of just 1, that being earth ofc. The probability of life could very well be 1 in all the planets in the observable universe, or it could be 1 in 1000 which would mean abundant life across the universe. Both outcomes being equally likely as all the factors become null since we only have a sample size of just 1 to make any sort of statistical prediction.

Re; the Fermi paradox- an alien race capable of interstellar travel would have a sense of self preservation that would disallow them to be known to exist to any alien race. If they could know of some rough proximity to an alien civilization as we are to them, they would want remain undetected by a civilization that would be comparatively more advanced to them as they are to us.

We are using SLOW EM signals to communicate. Which is fine in the terrestrial realm but is not even sufficient to communicate well to just the edge of the solar system. Any space fairing civilization would have to have figured out faster means of communication. The speed of light it just to slow for that. Possibly the reason we don’t hear ET’s is that it only takes advanced civilizations a 100-200 years to move past radio and EM to some other means. And that, they just aren’t transmitting all that long and we have missed that brief period of their historical technology that we could detect?

Could it be that there are indeed millions of alien radio signals coming at us, to the extent that the interference between them simply makes it impossible to pick them up with current wave separation technology?
@NightmareCourtPictures
@NightmareCourtPictures Жыл бұрын
It’s not that the communication is happening in radio waves, but rather that alien life is so vastly different from ours, that what we describe is noise, is in not noise. “Information is perspective” For example: you saying in the English language that “it is raining in Greenland” only means something to those that can interpret sound waves…and only means something to those that know what rain is…and where Greenland is…and that these are things only WE have named as such. “Greenland” means nothing to an alien even if those aliens had ears that could pick up sound waves. Another example. If you could broadcast your computers machine code out into the universe 001001010011000….this program might be the lex podcast…but that only matters if the aliens also are using the SAME computers that interpret the 0’s and 1’s in a way that are the same as ours. to an alien they would probably have a completely different decoding/encoding of those signals AND that’s assuming they use computers and not something more interesting or complex than a traditional human computer (brains are also computers and those things don’t use 0’s or 1’s at all but a continuous electrical discharge across many neural nodes simultaneously) Even deeper than that, with respect to the shadow biosphere…you might have alien life that does not even use the same fundamental chemistry. signals might only matter to certain elements where some other element might rely on some other medium to transmit information between things. The other life forms out there might not even remotely look like life as we understand it at all in anyway shape or form. The rabbit hole about intelligence is very very deep and certainly if you picked up on the cellular automata bit, you should look into the wolfram model of physics and this book new kind of science which is what lex is loosely referring to. In that theory, intelligence is maximally equivalent to most systems and that in some sense, everything features sophisticated computational ability equivalent to our own (that all systems are Turing universal and capable of doing universal computation)

A contra argument might ask why 'aliens' aren't sophisticated enough to find a communications method we CAN understand? If they are all around, in some form, and are so advanced, then how can they not figure out how to communicate with us?
@oakinwol
@oakinwol Жыл бұрын
Are we trying to find a way to communicate with ants? If we were, would it be to develop relationships with them or just to gather information for the purpose of categorization? That would be the simple answer. Ultimately I'd say the entire conversation about aliens, if they exist, being interested enough in us to actually care to speak to us is, in and of itself, one of the best examples of natural human narcissism
@Priceluked
@Priceluked Жыл бұрын
@@oakinwol Why do people always make the ant analogy? What is the likelihood that alien life would be some sort of higher level intelligence and not one close to equivalent with us? If that is the case then it makes sense why aliens aren't abundantly obvious and flying around all over the place, because leaving their planet's atmosphere and traveling somewhere even remotely far away is astronomically difficult.
@oakinwol
@oakinwol Жыл бұрын
@@Priceluked well, the reason is because of the context of this conversation. If we're talking about why an advanced alien species that could reach us is not talking to us. I guess I don't understand what kind of conversation would be worth having about the potential existence of an alien species that we don't have thr technology to communicate with and they also don't have the technology to communicate with us so neither of us are capable of even knowing about each other's existence. I can hear in her career as her questions have changed also. 40 years ago academia was extremely dogmatically defensive about materlism especially darwins context. They have moved away from darwins materialistic explanation and are trying use idealism computation and programming now. Much of this is the industrial revolutionary mindset in society being changed by the internet and computers revival of idealism. Young minds are being shaped this way so it helps the comparable explanation be moee compatible to what we observe. These phylosophical lines of thought are very contradictory to each other. They are now mixing a dualism view trying to save antiquated models and ideas like darwin had by broadening the context to house everything .its no longer a detailed theory anymore.

We always imagine them being fascinated with our Earthy charms and9 them studying us with intense curiosity. I Would think any equation made to state what is that cannot be as a theory is but merely a system of error in that query. Math itself is but artificial to itself and not of natural thing but simply a tool of measure that far to often is not a single string, but yet how hig hit is and given so much credit for somethings it never did. Now thats a measure.

Much like ghosts, people want aliens to be here so badly that they’ll simply make up enough stuff until they can finally make it apply, much like the whole sacred geometry thing if you create the rules in your own head you’ll find yourself believing whatever ridiculous scenario it is.
@nondualnavigation
@nondualnavigation Жыл бұрын
I get where you’re coming from but we must remain conscious enough to be able to zoom out from our current limiting predicament, sacred geometry is a universal language & acts as the building blocks towards collective consciousness evolution. Its an exciting time to experience a human incarnation I believe our future will require us to tap into our true human potential which is beyond the comprehension of configurations of mind. We are ourselves intelligent organic nature

@@reptar4life once again you’re falling into what you want to believe to be reality when in fact you just made yourself hallucinate. Psychedelics may be fun but you can’t get lost in them thinking it’s a true other realm. It’s the same as a dream, you may see things differently that when totally coherent make you think, but it’s not a real world where you can make tangible interactions or bring anything back from other than your interpretation of trying to understand and make sense of the unknown that you saw, which is exactly the same way people make sense of things as ghosts or aliens until they no longer become otherworldly and you find the real explanation.
@reptar4life
@reptar4life Жыл бұрын
@@PlutoTheGod ok, sorry I wasn't clear about what I meant. I didn't mean the hallucinations are correct or true reality, I meant that there is a lot of real sensory information we unconsciously disregard because it is not information that is necessary for our day to day survival. If you're sitting in a chair right now, you probably aren't thinking about the feeling of the chair against you, but now you are, but your conscious mind wasn't actively experiencing it. You're right, and a lot of people get lost in the woo-woo aspect of psychedelics or meditation and there isn't a rational way to draw any deeper meaning about reality from those experiences. Sorry, I wasn't clear

Shadow biosphere seems to be even more likely when you consider recently AI discovered more functional artifacts in living cells than we knew existed! AI doubled the artifacts in cells. More than that, no one in biology even speculated there was anything missing or something more to find! Not one!!! No one saying, the map of the cell in high school biology books was incomplete.

People put too much faith in the Drake equation. There are very limiting factors with the Drake equation. It may be very likely that there is other "life" in the universe, but _intelligent_ and _motivated_ life is not very common. In order for us to become aware of other life in the vast universe, not only would this life have to have been intelligent enough to figure out how to traverse the universe and spread thoroughly throughout our area of the universe, or send messages to us (granting it knows or thinks we might be here at this time), but it would _also_ need to have the _motivation_ to do these things. That last point is very important; we see other "intelligent" life on Earth. Dolphins are intelligent. Elephants are intelligent. Other beings are intelligent but they adapt physical capabilities in other ways than with cognition of the kind that would lead to tool making and eventually space travel. Energy typically follows the path of least resistance. There are also the time and distance factors to consider, as well. We might just be alone.

Hmm, but Aliens are already here. The US government has published something about it recently, we have UFO's roaming around the earth at incredible speeds. From 70 000ft up to sea level in less than a second. And they don't have any visible sign of propulsion. Look at the government data and watch the airforce pilot interviews about UFO's. They ALL think they are not from this planet. I don't even know why this information is not widely known at this point, it's literally the most important news ever.

This earth has 2.5 billion years left maybe.. the Andromeda galaxy is going to merge with the milky way and send all the solar systems flying around. This planet will probably be uninhabitable along with every single other planet in both galaxies and earth humans are just like, it's ok I won't be around then or we're the only life in the entire universe.. what is your freaking deal?

Private companies own the ufos and keep them secret for patent reasons.. they don't want the secret getting out so other companies can compete with them and take their profit. We are not a civilization that works for the benefit of all people. People compete against each other in different conpanies..
