1:36:00 For him to say there there is "no Communism in the United States" is such an insane view. Obviously there are, as it is easy to show in our history and current affairs. There's no shortage of Twitter people who profess to want Communism/Socialism. Also the history of Communism in the USA can be found as far back as Communism itself. And the number of college professors and students who would say they are at least sympathetic to it, is extremely large. And to think he studies political history is astounding. He throws around the words Communism and Capitalism in such a vague way that I cannot possibly take him seriously as an academic.

I love the way you two contrasted the differences between presidents of old and presidents of today. In many ways, memories of presidents of old have been romanticized to the point that presidents of today are a passed off as “under-qualified” or simply not as good. Considering the differences in environments, flow of information, and government structure are important factors. It’s not black/white. It’s not apples to apples. Thanks for the podcast!

Exactly. Presidents today are on the far more scrutiny thanks for the Internet, social media, cable TV, etc. Things also move much faster today which means decisions often have to be made faster and with less information. Actually today I think we often have too much information and have paralysis by analysis. But ultimately the decisions presidents have to make today are infinitely larger than in the past, which is actually why the federal government has too much damn power. The founding fathers never intended for the Government to be this big or this powerful.

1:42:15 he brings up "self defense" and then clearly uses "handguns or some small arm to defend myself" as a reasonable standard.. then goes on to say that the majority of mass shootings "AREN'T from defense weapons, but from mass killing weapons" when the stats are that at least 60% of mass shootings are done with handguns. I enjoyed most of the interview, but the fact that this guy could get such a modern, basic stat so wildly wrong, makes it harder for me to take him seriously as a historian.

Great interview. However, Jeremi seems to be taken by the romanticism built around both FDR and Lincoln later on. For an example, FDR didn't build the Hoover Dam, it was signed by Coolidge and construction began during Hoover (hence, the name), who in the end was not that different to FDR in terms of policy.

FDR was a criminal who shat on the constitution and the rights of the citizenry possibly more than any other president. Literally seized the assets of the citizenry with the removal of the gold standard. War time seizing of production. Encamping a population literally based on race and ethnicity (when his own reports said the chance of spies was low). Suppressed the press. Pen pals and admired Mussolini. This list could go on for an extremely long time including something as with as or much or terrible things or things as simple as blaming Hoover for so much government spending and then when in making Hoover’s spending look like pennies. He is far too romanticized as most “war time” presidents are. This isn’t a partisan opinion. It is _literally_ just looking at history and what happened with no fluff.

Okay can I just say quickly that the thing he says at 1:09:00 that his friend says about trauma is pretty annoying. Some people will be able to talk about trauma that has happened to them, it doesn't necessarily mean that the trauma is not bad if they talk about it. What a weird thing for someone who works with combat victims to say. Just because in films people who are traumatised have difficulty talking about it... People are different and deal with trauma in different ways. People are different levels of extraverted, plus they might talk about it in a super casual way. Apart from that podcast is obviously interesting, that just pissed me off.

1:42:40 sorry, that is simply a-factual, the founders specifically stated and wished for citizens to be able have and any bear arms that the government could own. That included canons. This was on principle and the misassumption of what the founders intended is just people attributing their own highly held opinions to legends of history they also hold in high regard. As it would be, the government on many occasions had have private artillery and other weapons of war loaned to them from private citizens in times of war since the gov was intentionally limited on weapons stock (relative to the people). This was expected.

It is great with freedom and the opportunity to make anything you want (as long as you don´t harm, hurt or fool someone/something or yourself ie. commit crime). The land of opportunities. But there are the same opportunities nodays in all countries with "real" democracies like Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Germany, Netherlands, France, Belgium, Canada and many more. But we need to get this freedom to all people in the whole world. But also we must understand the importance of a great social safetynet. Noone should have to live in the streets for any reason or not have good food, clothing and basics needs nomatter if they have job or are businessowner or both. Cause not all people can make it. Nomatter how much they want to. They don´t have the mental abilities to make it. We must see the society and the fantastic humanity more holistic and also understand that every human is unique and that not all can make themselfes nomatter how much they try or want it. Some can (many) do the typical "american dream" and go from nothing (two empty hands) to be filthy rich. But there are many that due to mental problems, "hidden" mental disabilities and other stuff in life can´t make it. We must understand that. Otherwise we are lying to ourselfes. If we think everyone can make it. Maybe it is10-20% of the total population or less. I don´t have facts but science have and the society should use this to help us develope a society that is great and available for everyone. Not like in the djungel where you die if you don´t are intelligent enough or if you are disabled in some way. We must be better than the rest of the animalkingdom with so many really smart brains and such ability to orginize and solve stuff. Leave noone behind!!!! A great world for everyone in empathy, love, understanding, tolerance, peace, democracy and everything needed for everyone. Also we always strive to make the world better in all ways we can.

On February 19, 1942, FDR issued Executive Order 9066, which led to the forced relocation of approximately 120,000 Japanese Americans living on the West Coast. More than two-thirds of these people were native born American citizens. They were confined in inland internment camps operated by the military.

Lex, we didn’t really get to hear the guys positions fully because you keep interrupting and asking questions which are unnecessarily long, sometimes with multiple questions within them. We didn’t really get to hear his full views of Abraham Lincoln which I was so interested to hear. Just try leave the guests go on a long monologue about the topic they are really interested in and maybe keep that topic going with quick concise questions. Other than that, great podcast and amazing guest. Only on your channel will you find such a diverse range of guests like yours. It a privilege to be able to listen to people like you and the guests you have for free

Good eye contact habits start in infancy, just two days after birth. It all depends on the parents or caretakers to do a good job with eye contact with the child. I think Lex has good eye contact as well as a great ability to remain present in the conversation while coming up with new questions to ask.

It is hard to see a conversation as super hawkish as this one these days. The minimum amount of skepticism I had while reading the characterization of the super hawkish side of American politics from Chomsky, Herman and others I cease to have after this. These people are feeding people a version of history that reinforces or establishes the view - Soviet Union vs. United States = Socialism vs. Capitalism, United States much much less evil than Soviet Union, Marshall Plan was a benevolent and altruistic move, during the Cold war US had a mission to rid the people of the world from Communism - all of which are false.

The 2nd amendment isn't so much about personal self defense rather it's a deterrent against a tyrannical government overreaching it's authority. Lenin and the soviets confiscated guns immediately after they took power. So did hitler. So do most tyrants. A armed populace is a free populace. It is that simple.

Thanks for everything you do lex. Amazing podcast. I hope you realize that something as small as a single idea shared on your podcast can literally change mankind for the better. Sharing ideas, chopping it up and every so often stepping outside the norm can produce some of mankind’s most valuable tools we have at our disposal. All it takes is one person with an idea, and if that one idea reaches the right person magic can happen. I call it the open source library of mankind. We all hold data in that fleshy brain 🧠 of ours. Not everything can be found or come into fruition threw the internet. Some of the best ideas and inventions evolve from simple “human nature - (Typed 13:17 Minutes into the podcast, what a Trip)” Wow it happend again. As im writing this comment, at the same exact moment I was typing in the phrase human nature, you spoke it. As if a loud echo in my head. I comment very little, but every time I have, this same occurrence happens. It seems to happen more often lately between a few different people. With the only similarity being the state of nature i am in while typing. Hard to explain. A author once described it in the best way i feel is possible. He said its as if your mind goes into an automatic mode, kinda like fight or flight. The thoughts or ideas start to pour out of you, and after all the dust settles, and you start going over what You had just written. A strange feeling begins to cast over you, as if what you are reading couldn’t have been a better description of what you where trying to portray, except with the added feeling that you did not write it. You will not be able to explain where it came from. There will be no signs of any remaining thoughts left over which had led you to the writing what you had. Typically one will get an idea that stems from a problem they are trying to eliminate. Those thoughts get ran threw many scenarios like a sandbox for creating apps. The best solution starts to take shape after refining those scenarios with your life experiences. Leading to what you feel is the best answer or route to solve the original problem. Sometimes they can just lead to more problems that need fixing and sometimes you can fix A problem that you had not originally intended to fix. A lot of times they are works in progress. While often, they only become complete or perfected when paired with someone as like minded as you, but with different experiences and solutions that you had not had to implement into the solution. Thats why again i must describe it as an open source library provided by mother nature. I have no idea though. Its fun to escape and think about these things some times. This is the reason i loved your take on flat earth. How you said, yes its ridiculousness in its truest form, but really give it a thought have you seen evidence first hand or are you just going of what you are told and showed. Reality shows there are very few people whom have had that experience (astronauts, and fields alike) and truley have seen threw the looking glass. And becuase we have not experienced this you think one would have an easier time imagining the unknown but some people just cant do it lol. They will go threw just about every scenario they see plausible not realizing the Un-plausible was what lead to the best solution. You don’t have to believe 100% plausibility in an idea for it to produce quality work. Sometimes you need to dig into the unthinkable to create Masterpieces that will stand the test of time. Idk life’s a trip . Or maybe these dabs are just to strong. Ether way keep up the great work, and dont stop as long as you still have the passion for what you are doing. Once thats gone if ever, dont feel as if you owe anyone and must continue. That can build and cause an irreversible dislike to what you once where so passionate for. You owe know one but yourself. Much love Lexington steel. That last line Was all the trollin in me, i gave it a shoot. ✌️

To be fair, Chomsky is a back seat quarterback. He never had to make any tough decisions, sometimes with choices that are all shit no matter what you choose. Chomsky is a thinker, Kissinger is a doer. (Btw, this is not to defend Kissinger or any of his actions, but its really easy to criticize people doing stuff when you yourself never done anything).
