the musical at the end isnt actually about Nate being gay. Its more about "the boys" attitude, where boys are really affectionate and homo-erotic with each other but then get mad when someone says theyre acting gay. After all Lexi propably doesnt know about Nates sexual insecurities as only ones who know about it are Maddy, and kinda Cassie and Jules, who all have kept their mouths shut for all we know.

I think the point of the show is everyone is messy... albeit to different degrees and in different ways. Like was the football dance scene a little cruel? Yeah. Was it potentially a commentary on the thin line between homophobia and homoeroticism in hyper masculine spaces? Maybe 🤷🏿♂️ . Was it entertaining and hilarious? Absolutely. I think this seasons point was that everyone is culpable of something ... like real people.
@meatyp092 жыл бұрын
@@jamesliggins891 lmao that doesn't make her homophobic, selling drugs doesn't make Fez a bad person. Rue just like pother drug attics can get drugs from anywhere Fez was just convenient for Rue because they're friends. Its not Lexi's fault what happened to Rue's dad or that she chose drugs to cope. Rue became selfish and forgot a lot after doing heavy drugs, Fez has put her out at least 3 times in these 2 seasons. If he didn't care about her and was just selling her drugs he wouldn't do things that would keep her from killing herself. He has said out of his own mouth im not about to help you kill yourself, Rue did drugs and decided to keep doing heavier drugs until she almost killed herself, it started out as friends smoking weed. She don't even pay for half the drugs she got from him so it ain't like he using her to make a profit like multiple customers he has. He actually got a good heart and thats the most you can say about many of the male characters in this show. Lexi dating him does not make her problematic, she's never in the problems just there observing them, that's how this play was even possible.
@jamesliggins8912 жыл бұрын
@@meatyp09 who said Lexi was homophobic? in terms of being a good or a bad person, I also didn't say anything like that -- I think it's mostly meaningless to try and put people into "good person" and "bad person" boxes. but fez selling hard illegal drugs to minors is certainly not a good action, not matter how good his "heart" is. and yes, it's nice and all that he cares for rue, but who knows how many other rues he's selling to right now, or the ones who have already died. the point is not that fez and Lexi are bad people, it's that they both have their own problems and have done their own questionable things, like everyone else.

I think Cal on Nate is a huge metaphor; not indicating Se*ual assault. Trauma from seeing the vids of Cal, seeing Jules in the dream, him experiencing his feelings for her which questions his sexuality, his subconscious puts him in Jules’ situation on those tapes putting him in a sub position w his dad hes been fighting his whole life through hyper masculinity. All these feelings were intertwining and bothering him in his sleep, making him jolt awake and turn to hold the woman who is incredibly submissive to his dominance.
@bernardofreitas9422 жыл бұрын
one thing that people are missing out is (unless is a flaw in the script) Nate still watched his dad's videos in season 1, otherwise how in the hell he would know he had a video with Jules in the first place? I think he suppresses his sexuality because it got poisoned by the imagery of his father in such a young age, and I agree with you, I don't think that scene indicates sexual assault, but a metaphor for this subconscious desire.
@callielayneherring58882 жыл бұрын
Completely agree. That was a nightmare physically manifesting the trauma that is hanging over his head. Finding those videos at such a young age, and having his perception of one of his parent warped so badly, has completely fucked him up and influenced everything he does. Cal is hanging over his head, he feels held down by Cal's decisions and his legacy.

Kat dancing for cam isn’t in the play. I believe it’s a new scene, as in Kat went back to camming after breaking up with Ethan. It’s to juxtapose Cassie being submissive and Kat being dominant. It wasn't in the play. I'm pretty sure it was supposed to be showing a juxtaposition between the two characters. Cassie believes that to be loved is to be idolized, a lot like Kat. I find it interesting that Cassie is still most people’s least favorite character now when Nate is literally grooming her to be a completely different person (Maddie/Jules); like he quite literally might be sociopathic and though Cassie’s decisions are despicable, she’s clearly such a broken, deeply insecure person that is being taken advantage of by the person who has hurt and manipulated most people on the show. Nate should be everyone’s least favorite character but that’s just my opinion🤷♀️
@Hgbxx2 жыл бұрын
I think part of the reason is everyone knows Nate is a horrid person… like no one like Nate but we expect it.. Cassie is seen (in my opinion) as lonely, naive and a bit air-headed and thinks “i can change him” . She knows what he did to Maddy, she saw how many times he hurt maddy. Shes cried many times over him and hes vile towards her and she knows it, think back to the argument where he calls her maddy… but cause she finally got his attention and hes all hers to some degree after she got up at 4 every morning, she is adamant he’ll change. So yes he manipulated her etc. But i think people are mostly angry because she does know to some extent. She saw it all and still went for him. And i think as shes been hurt by so many men, its more aggravating especially as she still tried to defend him… And then to add when she screamed at Lexi and said she had no self respect etc. That annoyed me lmao

22:13 cassie looks “numb” here because it’s likely that shes dissociating. Its not that she doesn’t care- its that she cares a lot and knows that her friendship with maddy is fucked. Her brain is involuntarily coping by basically shutting things out. It’s because it’s so painful to face that that her brain wont let her right now. Doesnt mean she isnt ruining her life- but it’s because shes in a fucked dynamic with a crazy guy and she was already going thru it emotionally. I feel like people are failing to recognize that Nate is also abusive to Cassie? Plus she has no support system right now because she’s isolated and her only source of comfort is Nate. Its like how with her dad she was in denial of him being drunk in the daytime, despite knowing he was. She felt it was necessary to sacrifice her and lexi’s physical wellbeing in order to make their dad feel like they trust him. She’d literally rather her and her sister die than lose male validation- its deeply sad. Her self worth is dependent on it, and without it all she feels is the bad shit. Her brain can’t face all the trauma and the downfall of her dearest friendship so it won’t allow her to face it until she’s forced to. Not excusing the damage she’s caused but you can’t blame her because anyone would go batshit crazy if they went through all the things she’s been through and was that lost and fragile.

25:08 this scene was already creepy enough as is but i just now realized that nate is holding the same exact glass that cal was drinking & offered jules from the first episode and they’re in the same hotel room and jules is wearing the same exact outfit and hairstyle from the tape. then he proceeds to do exactly to cassie what his dad did to jules.

It’s part of his fantasy, he is literally recreating his relationship with Cassie as if he’s dating both Maddie and Jules. That’s why they said that Cassie’s make up is now a mix between them

I mean it tracks with the reality of the show, there’s apparently no dress code at this American high school and they play uncensored music at the dances

In my high school we performed Sweeney Todd, with blood and a real working chair/slide. But you are right. Especially in the USA schools care more about sexually graphic than graphic violence.

Nate's nightmare really disturbed me and makes me feel like there's something that Cal did to him in his childhood that we don't know about.
@tink62252 жыл бұрын
nah. i know the exact same feeling like being so traumatized by your parent's sexual history and not being able to shake the thought of them doing that to you even if theyve never and will never do that, also making you thoroughly repulsed by the thought of ever being in that position, (hence his violently toxic masculine front, him not wanting to feel like one of his dad's partners). for nate it's more like parallels between cal doing that to the people he fucks & nate with cassie/maddie

I think Ethan would be good for Cassie. Let me explain… Ethan is everything she could want in a guy plus he knows from the play how hard both her and Lexi’s life has been with their dad. He is also a good guy. Nate is just terrible and mean.

I was very confused when it would cut to Fez getting ready and the play. But, does it make sense maybe that the fez stuff is a little bit in the past. So all the shit that we see going down next episode is what happens during the episode. Or possibly Faye switched the clocks or some shit to help Custer so that fez would miss the play?

I think Rue's mom was really using tough love on Rue because she's learnt that rue can only get clean if she herself wants to get clean. So maybe that conversation will drive rue into getting sober for herself so that she isn't hurting her family anymore

Well now I expect the worse for the season finale!!!! If the director decided to end this episode with the theme song of"Hannibal Holocaust", one of the gruesome and fuck up movie ever (banned in in the past in 83 countries and I believe still in more then 40 today) something bad is going to happen,maybe to Ash or even to Fezco!!! Cassie just going to ruin Lexi's play finale or during her standing ovation......
@AngeAlexiel2 жыл бұрын
Cassie at the end made me think of Carrie ... Carnage about to fall down on the play i guess... i'm not sure Fez will have real trouble , cos Ash will take care of the situation, the show runners are misleading us, he will not get on time for another reason... this episode was one of the best, Lexi is beautiful imo.

Fexi is now the dream team of knocking Nate Jacobs down a peg - first Fez kicked his ass physically, and now Lexi has humiliated him using comedy. It just sucks that Fezco wasn't in the audience to witness it! I think the fact that Fez didn't show up means something seriously bad happened, because there's no way he would miss that play on purpose. Ugh, it makes me so sad.

I’m glad you guys noticed the way Nate’s treats cassie like a doll. It would be interesting to see a scene where Nate was a child and did something flamboyant or feminine but was then berated by cal for it which is what changed Him at 8.

@NoahsGameCave2 жыл бұрын
God dammit. Every time you saw Fezco getting ready for the play it was well before the play started. It was a fucking flashback. When Lexi is looking at the empty chair it is because Fezco is obviously dealing with some crazy shit. He vowed to the woman he loves most that he would be in the front row at the beginning of the play. So it is obvious that you’re seeing a Flashback of him getting ready and then you’re seeing a flash forward a Lexi Seeing his empty seat

It's funny that the people bashing Cassie are Gen Z, generation that was supposed to be all for mental health but give them a character who's insecure and having a mental breakdown and they shit all over her.
@gee25412 жыл бұрын
Mental health isn’t an excuse to hurt other people for your own gain though. Generation z is also fake af lol (I’m part of it). They claim they care about mental health but they don’t whenever someone actually shows symptoms or it requires more than sharing a trendy quote on Instagram.
