Great reaction! The best version to look at for live feel and live vocals is the "stadium version"... the dance practice is the best view of their group dancing. They just did a very cute Christmas cover which has really sweet vocals in it.

That’s not live. It’s 99% backing track. I love these girls. Seen everything. But don’t like how they keep bringing out new vids which is just pretending to sing. Even the new Christmas one is lip sync. Obviously they sang it. But it’s not live.

@@chrisdef15 In school/stadium versions., they sing WITH the backing track; in school ver, the backing track is louder while in the stadium ver, the backing track's volumn is turned down so you can hear their live vocals more in that version. And the Christmas cover is obviusly lip sycing, it's an MV kinda, no one sings live in an MV right? lol

Sure @@chrisdef15, I feel you and there are a lot of voices wanting more/different. To each their own. I would gently disagree that the stadium version is "99% backing track" though 🙂. It's definitely majority backing track in the mix but IMHO you can definitely hear their live vocals. I don't think the mics are just a prop. Regarding the Christmas track, it's essentially a music video, so that's a stylistic choice and I thought it was fun. I'm willing to give them time. I'm happy with what they're doing so far.

I might have sounded worse than I meant. They are amazing. I just wish they had put the effort from all these different “batter up” m/v versions. And this christmas song into another m/v. Just like blackpink had 2 very different debut songs.

The meaning behind Batter Up it is that they are the next group to take the bat in YG. So the song is a constant reference to previous artists and YG style of music. You can see a lot of references to previous YG artists/songs/MVs. The chorus sounds like Money, the start is just like the most recent Treasure MV 'Bona Bona' opening, the bat which Ruka holds is a reference for Lisa in Lovesick Girls but for 2NE1 too with their most popular song I´M THE BEST where the girls smash records with the bat, the coat that Ruka wears is a reference to G-Dragon when he dissed MAMA the biggest music award in Korea wearing a coat like that, when Rami takes the phone is like Rosé´s Gone MV... and many more references. So this song is like a presentation for the new YG group. After this they will follow their own path and style for sure just like every other group in YG. I feel like you too, the song is good but we know this is far from the potential these girl have. But I´m happy with it. About Ahyeon is 50/50. Like you said if she´s not back for the next release... but adding a member after debut is not that new as other groups did it before. And Batter Up wasn´t promoted at all in Korea. That + the fact that we knew YG planned an album and they changed things to debut with this single mayyyyybe means they´re truly waiting for her to recover. They clarified it wasn´t a withdrawal from the group after people paniked with the shocking news. But who knows... time will tell.

A debut song is like announcing to people that they are an artist from YG. It's like YG's signature. Fans who follow K-Pop will know right away that this is an artist from YG. It's not unusual for you to feel that some of their verses are similar to BLACKPINK because they're from the same company. In their next song they will show more of a BABYMONSTER. My opinion I really enjoyed the songs and am really proud of them. As for AHYEON. A few days after they released their debut song, Someone saw her at a restaurant. She was much thinner than before. (I think due to her health problems) She also wrote a letter and autograph for that fan. Her signature also has some symbols indicating that she is still a member of BABYMONSTER. I hope she comes back after she's healthy.

In relation to Ahyeon, the statement is for health reasons, if so we have to let her recover, she will decide together with her parents whether or not to join the group, the agency left the door open, But the group cannot be stopped by one person, even if he is talented like her, because the group is the synergy of all the girls' talents and they are not "Ahyeon and her friends." With Ahyeon I think YG would just say she is gone if she isn’t coming back. The new Christmas song could be aimed at her. A million others they could do. And in the start of this m/v Chiquita Ahyeon roommate leans down and rubs her finger across the A on the floor. Just a weird thing to do for no reason. Could mean absolutely nothing. Who knows. We will have to wait and see.

Great Reaction LexListens! As a diehard Blink I am here to support BABYMONSTER! What we have here is YG’s DNA! This has aspects of all the groups and otherwise! We have 4 underage girls out of 6! So YG had to ease them into this new phase of being an Idol! You need to watch the three episodes of The Making of Batter Up! To understand how they felt about everything! YG has them performing in different stages with live vocals also! All the Awards Shows are closed for the holidays so no live performances yet! As for Ahyeon as of two weeks ago she’s still not doing well! It’s more serious than most of us thought! She’s under her parents supervision and YG can’t say anything without their permission! Also the only thing BABYMONSTER has in common with BlackPink is the onslaught of hate they are receiving! Which also factors in how YG has to be very careful! I’m with BABYMONSTER 100%!⚾️🙏🏻

About the members that are minors that many people may not know about... Korean laws pertaining to minors in K-POP were changed in May 2023. The changes to the laws reduced the amount of time a minor could work per day/week, changed the definition of what was considered "work", limited how minors could dress or act to prevent over sexualization, and required mandatory time off for poor education scores & health concerns. The time considered to be "work" was changed from the time used for training, promoting, practicing for a performance, and performing to the time used for any type of training, practicing, promoting, and performing. Why this change occurred is because it was felt that companies were abusing/taking advantage of the time used for practicing by yourself, because it was not considered "work", so the minors could do that to go over the maximum hour limits per day/week. This changes accounts for the increased delay on the Babymonster debut due to the new limits to how long they could train or practice. The change requiring mandatory time off for education or health concerns also implemented the requirement that the company, parents of the minor, and the minor must all agree to when to return from hiatus status after the mandatory time off period ends. Why this change occurred was because previously there was no mandatory time off for education or health concerns and determination of when to return from hiatus for health reasons was solely decided by the company. This change is the reason/excuse (depending on your point of view) that YG Entertainment is using for Ahyeon being delayed. Also, YG has talked about having subunits within Babymonster. So, they intend to release content that will not feature all of the members.

Babymonster being compared to Blackpink is expected and history repeating itself. When Blackpink debuted, they were compared to 2NE1. The criticisms that they sound alike or their copying their predecessors that is happening with Babymonster also happened with Blackpink. The thing is, it's the signature YG sound and style that is being used by all the groups that were created by YG Entertainment. BigBang, 2NE1, Winner, iKon, Blackpink, Treasure, and, now, Babymonster all shared that signature YG sound and style.

I think it reminds you of MONEY because of the horns in the background. The sampled sound almost exactly the same. Their "Stadium Ver" I think is the best of the ones that they have out right now and you can hear their vocals in it. But the more impressive song that they have out right now is their "Christmas Without You" cover. I hope that YG will realize that BABYMONSTER will do even better with R&B tracks and that while the Hip Hop is fine, their vocals would really shine in a different genre of music. They have monster vocal talent in this group that can harmonize and create amazing sounds. I would like to see Ahyeon return to the group because we saw what the 7 of them are capable of when they are together. Since we don't know what the truth is about Ahyeon's condition and why certain decisions were made, we can only hope that YG is telling the truth and hope for Ahyeon's return to the group. That could be the reason that they are not really promoting the group like they would by booking them for appearances or a promotional activities like you would expect from a debut group. Theyu are waiting for Ahyeon. We just don't know at this point.

For me, at my first listen/watch, it's *underwhelming*. It's good but I don't know, there's something missing. However, when I tried using the headset, I can hear the bass more and it's super duper good. I tried listening with loud speakers, and it got better! About the similarity of the song, "Money", actually they got the same 1 step tho HAHA so... idk what to say about that one. The facial expression are serving, the vocal is amazing, the raps are superB, and the visual is heavenlike. BUT, there's something MISSING that I can't point out. So... What Future you said is absolutely correct... That this song is good but is it the "greatest song of all time"? No it's not. But when you're saying you want to hear from them which won't remind you of blackpink then I'm sorry to break it to you but it's never gonna happen. You see, blackpink themselves didn't had their "own" style.. people back then said they're 2NE1 2.0, and people now are saying BM is BP 2.0... I loved the song, the more I listen to it the more I like it. The girls look amazing, great M/V. So happy for the girls. Vocals are amazing, rap line is on fire, visuals are insane, dancing is on point. It is a YG song for sure, but its their first song, I expect next songs to be more unique. As you said, the rap line does not sound like BP, its already unique. Asa (who is a writer) and Ruka were insane. Regarding Ahyeon, I think we all are just hoping that she is in good health and will return in the new year. For now, we support the six. Trust me Ahyeon is my bias I miss her a ton, but just hope she gets better. That said, this M/V is crushing records. Watch their Christmas Cover, I really do think they are singing to Ahyeon.

I think when you say there is a resemblance to Blackpink you are not wrong, but I think what you are really hearing is the YG sound. YG himself was credited in the writing and production and wants to recreate the success he had with BP. When BP debuted they received hate for being too much like their predecessor 2NE1, but I believe that was just the overlap of being from the same company using the same trainers and producers, but given time they developed their own distinct style/sound. I feel like the BM debut was less about defining BM's sound but establishing that this is YG's new group. I'm sure overtime they will develop their own sound as they work with different producers and styles of music. Regarding Ahyeon, I hope she is able to join the girls in the future because there is no doubt regarding her talent and what she brings to the group but I'm doubtful. Despite her absence I also feel that the remaining members have more than enough talent without her to still compete with any group out there.

If u are not a non-kpop fan...and see BM's video for the first time....this will really grab ur "attention"...coz its new and fresh...esp the outro. BUT if u are a kpop fan already....like hearing 2nd, 3rd, and 4th GG....then some of u will be used to this kind of song. But some will like it but there will also be some who will not like it. So I think...YGE's strategy is solely focus on ppl who are not a kpop fan...and ppl who saw their journey. So that new fans....will sure to adore them and I am sure they liked this debut song. YGE is not focused on kpop fans in general.....its like 90% non kpop fans to 10% kpop fans. YG annoumced early these girls carry the YG DNA which is hip hop, girl crush and rappers in their girl groups. These girls joined YG to become YG performers. YG songs are full of hidden messages and double meanings. Lisa money is not the only reference. You also get Rose's Gone reference, Jisoo vibes and Jennie's vibe. You hsve to remember Baby Monster were selected and trained for 6 years as Blackpink replacements and the future of YG and are not copies. This song is actually a message to Blackpink girls. Sign and renew your contract with YG or watch your highly trained and super talented replacements shine with or without you. Eg, Rami sings, talk too much, Big mistake and chucks an old phone. That is a Gone reference. Or Batter up means next batter to the plate. Or the baton is passed I run run run. Where is a baton in baseball? These are all messages directed to Blackpink. If Ahyeon will come back, that’s definitely great. I feel that she’ll rejoin them in the future but they cannot let the debut be delayed. If I recall correctly, a similar thing happened with Red Velvet. SM needed to debut the group to cover up some stuff but Yeri was not yet finished training and is deemed still too young. SM debuted RV as a 4-member group, then Yeri joined them after a year. The only difference is people don’t know about Yeri being an original member so she received a lot of hate whereas Ahyeon is being missed because people know she is meant to be in the group and a lot of people are rooting for her. Good job on YG changing Haram’s name because if YG aims on getting them to countries with large Muslim populations and even to perform in Muslim countries, her name will not sit well since Haram means “forbidden by Islamic law”.

Please go back to The Last Evaluation episode 2. After the Gone performance it was mentioned that there were concerns whether Ahyeon would be able to fit well in a group, whether she can hold herself back and be a good fit. Unfortunately it was said in Korean so the exact context could easily have been lost in translation. But in hindsight, it makes me wonder why her ability to mesh would be of concern to begin with.

The main criticism and part of the hate it has received is "they are copies of BP" "it sounds like Money." And it is because if they only know BP, it will give that reference. The song has the style that YG gives to all his groups, and they used the same Money samples for the chorus, making modifications It has more influence from the second generation groups. The song is fun and easy to place on the market and although it has received criticism and in Korea they criticize that there are more foreigners than Koreans. The group is solid, They will find their style and their market.
