Playing a huge game at Hard Rock the swings are massive ! #poker #pokervlog

Why I run it twice Poker is a sick game. You can be a huge favorite and still lose. This is one reason this game is so popular because you can be bad and still win. With that said, I like to reduce my variance as much as I can while poker is a main source of income for me. When you run the board out multiple times it reduces the variance. The money amount matters as well. I won’t run it twice for a $500 pot unless asked. However, for a $10,000 pot in a game I don’t normally play, I like to run it twice. Let’s say I run it once and my opponent hits a flush and I lose a $10,000 pot. I may not have another opportunity like that in months to recoup those losses. I don’t want my poker career to be comprised of how a few turns and rivers went. If I only ran it once in my career I’m sure I would have way bigger swings which could possibly have made me go broke. Playing poker for a living is extremely stressful. So running it twice just is a small way of relieving the stress. My goal one day is to have a large enough bankroll that the money I’m playing with means nothing to me. For now, in order to control my overall swings I will always run it twice in huge pots. Let me know your thoughts below
@williamzagarella80662 жыл бұрын
Totally agree with you Lex. Yes, in my original 2/5 game I play, I like to run it just once. But that's because its MY ORIGINAL game. If I were to move up to play 5/10 and a higher percentage of my bankroll comes into play, I would like to reduce the variance. You get 1 bad turn or river and it may be a while until you take another shot. I dont think people really understand how much 10,000 dollars is when they just see poker chips lol.

u had straight already so running twice only gave the other player a second option to get flush which he did...
@fialee82 жыл бұрын
Your logic based on your financial situation makes sense. However, you had the nuts going in... so your variance must be very high, prob ~75% chance to win. Given those odds... I would think you would take that all day and night. If it's more of a flip, I can see running it twice makes more sense. Just my thought process.
@kurtsteven62282 жыл бұрын
Don’t take my comment as negative brother. I was just letting you know my position on running it twice. Looking back at the size of the pot. I get why running it twice. Nobody wants to lose 10k. Especially after flopping the joint and getting sucked out on. But that’s also why I said if you slowed down His gin card for the low end of the straight came in on the river. You would’ve scooped that 10k pot. Either way you crawled out of a 6k loss to win a thousand. That’s a huge win in my book. Also flopping trip 10s and getting sucked out against 66 on the turn was sick. In the end a win is a win. Good luck brother an love the content. 🥇
@markjaeggli57152 жыл бұрын
I think as played the only way you don't get all the money is by raising the flop. In position you raise the turn, out of position the flop. Highly doubt the player is slowing down at all, any non-heart non-board pairing card you can just rip it over whatever his turn bet is. IMO if you need to run it twice you are playing too big. I think you can see that with how you always make an excuse for not putting in 4 and 5 bets. It's always "such and such player can only have KK or AA here".

You know that the only way we learn is by learning right? If someone says "don't cross the river here, the current is too strong", you can try and risk your life or find another spot. What your advise does is tell him to not listen and just try to cross here and not listen to experienced players. If I didn't care, I wouldn't say anything!

I enjoy watching your videos Lex and I wish you continued success and sincerely hope your channel continues to grow! With that being said I would like to make an observation and perhaps offer some advice from someone who is far more experienced than you. I’ve noticed that you at times seem concerned( even overly concerned ) about comments and how others perceive you and your abilities. Since you obv garner many written comments and critiques of your game and abilities it may be understandable that you sometimes feel the need to respond to these. And as such I commend you for always attempting to stay positive and reinforce your reasons as to why and how you vlog and create your content. However as someone who is much older than you and far more experienced than you I offer this simple advice...DON’T DO IT!! The world is full of doubters, experts, arm-chair analysts and just plain haters. You can explain yourself hundreds of times and reinforce your reasons for the content you create and no matter how intelligent and logical they may be there will always be a large subsection of people who will NEVER have anything good to say or for that matter anything remotely constructive. The world is full of people dying to criticize something or someone. Lex I don’t know you personally but you come across as a genuinely nice guy who isn’t in any way malicious or negative, and bc of this you sometimes feel the need to respond and it’s understandable and even noble. However if you just learn to ignore these comments and the types of people who make them you will see that it is incredibly liberating and will ultimately allow you to focus on what I know you are striving for. And that is being a humble and decent person and striving to improve not only your poker game but all aspects of your life. Brother keep doing what you do and just realize everyone will not like you no matter how sincere and humble you are. Great content and please accept my counsel as your future is bright young man!!

running it twice smooths out the variance without giving up EV. Try playing for a living with no one supporting you and you will understand why he wants to realize his EV without the variance. It's like getting free insurance, do you not insure your house, car, health etc...
@markjaeggli57152 жыл бұрын
@@rodb.5801 you aren’t realizing your EV running it twice. To realize your EV you need to run it 1000x. Running it twice is for people that are playing too big and don’t want swings, which is Lex. Those pocket 6's catching trips can be pain killer. Last session for me I had pocket 6's with the flop of AJ6. Three guys went all in on the flop. One person had AJ, I had pocket 6's (sign of the devil) and the last man had pocket Jacks. I had everyone covered 4X so it didn't hit me too hard. Since then, I have a new motto, beware of the sign of the devil, that is Pocket 6's. On the other hand, when I turned quad six's against a higher set a few years ago, 6''s were my friends!

Is there a nickname for what happened with the KT vs. 66 hand where the villain raises flop while behind - unclear whether they realize they're bluffing - and then they turn the bailout? It's happened to me a few times and I wish I had a name for it - beyond, y'know, "brutal."

More likely villain isn’t putting hero on trips since he could be c betting so many hands there, and may have actually thought he was best. When people think you’re bluffing opponents sometimes continue lighter than they would otherwise, only to luck into the best hand. That’s a good thing in the long run, but sucks in the moment

Glad to see you grind it back, a small win is better than a big loss. I vape but I mix my own juice and it has very little nicotine in it, so I don't really have to take smoke breaks during a long session. When I get a bad beat, like the turned full house, I'll see another hand or two and take a break, walk around, maybe go outside for some fresh air and a vape, maybe grab a Nathan's Famous bacon wrapped chili cheese dog. I wouldn't even be thinking about that particular hand, If I'm thinking about poker at all, it is my overall play, am I tired, are the other players good, or bad, betting patterns, and hand ranges played. I'm not a pro but I study, read a lot, watch clips on how to play small and mid-stakes cash games, and of course, thousands of hands played on vlogs and live streams. Every pro I've read or watched say table selection is one of the most important aspects of playing as a pro. If you are taking a shot and the table is tough, consider switching tables or drop down to 5/10 where you have the edge.

Great job battling the euro pros. I have to remind myself that when trying to balance my c bets and my check flop bets with strong hands,that nobody else knows what I am holding. My cards are unknown. I try to bet more often now and win as much as I can on every street. I understand your logic in being balanced but the villain will never know unless he calls you at showdown and he sees your hand. It’s often forgotten about by the villain a few hours later. They haven’t been calling you down all 3streets unless you’re in Texas. Lol. I think you left lots of money on the table and they saw your checking as strength instead of weakness. Just my opinion. Best of luck on your future sessions.

Lex, first off I loved the way you played that QT. So often people slow play the flop to death, forgetting the cardinal rule of poker, if you have it you want to get all the money in the middle, and you get money in the middle by betting/raising. Second off though, wether it was your original intent or not your videos are educational. I'm sure you're just trying to differentiate yourself from the explicit poker coaches but there is always so much to learn from your content. You show the intangibles of being a professional poker player, you show poise, the importance of mental fortitude and attitude. This video is a perfect example of not losing your head when you're losing at cards. Keep up the good work man, I'm hoping to join you soon.

I’ve been playing full time since 2008ish and started at Foxwoods in CT and then the hard rock in Hollywood FL then Lived in Vegas for 3 years from 2011-2014. Just wanted to comment on the Q 10 hand. Flopping the nut straight... I think if you slowed down, you would’ve easily doubled up. Did you notice the river? His 6/7 would’ve made the low straight. For me, I don’t run it twice. Just because the game is intended for 1 turn and 1 river. I find myself always chopping when I elect to run it twice. But I get the play, especially against the flush draw. Either way glad to see you playing at my old casino and keep crushing it bro! Just stay away from PLO. Hahaha. GL at the tables and maybe I’ll see you at hard rock next time I’m visiting FL
