When I first started playing ACNH, I was originally planning when I eventually unlock terraforming was to reshape the island into multiple islands so that they would resemble the borders of my hometown: New York City. But due the diagonal shapes of many waterways in the real city and having to move buildings and houses around would have made it overly complicated and would have cost too many bells. So working around the geography of my island, I instead decided to make the island into a seaside resort reminiscent of many Jersey Shore resort towns like Cape May, Wildwood, Asbury Park and especially Atlantic City. On the eastern shore of the island will lie a north-south boardwalk parallel to the beach dotted with shops and other attractions similar to the real life places I mentioned.

For a second I tought the skywalk in national park was a modded item until I looked again and it's just terraforming and custom path! It looked so real! I could have never created such cool design!

This was incredible! This makes me really wanna take some more risks doing terraforming so I can achieve even an 8th of this perfection. I kinda feel like when I try doing anything with terraforming, it doesn't look nearly as good as when other people do it. Also- I'm a sucker for symmetry too :P can't help myself

The level of creativity in this game people have shown is off the charts, like I don’t even know how they think of half the designs and terraforming is genuinely difficult I’m getting better at it but not even close to this level. Just do the best you can and practice. It’s fun to try things out, the only thing that I don’t like is no indicator/highlighted area where your character is digging, so it’s easy to mess up, it’s also very tedious and time consuming.

My biggest mistake when making my island was trying to make it themed around everything in the game. Of course certain aspects of it were still beautiful but in the end it didn’t really hit the mark I was hoping for and I compacted more than I needed to meaning there was extra space leaving me feeling lost. A good map is usually an indicator of a good island, whether it’s creative like this one or uniform like a city. Major respect to anyone who’s mastered pathing, because that’s been my biggest struggle, personally.

Terraforming is so difficult, I imagine it helps a ton if your an artist background, then you can draw what you want to do, sadly I’m not really. When I see like over the top amazing island designs I go yep that person is an artist/art student, photography etc. But at the same time the more you play around and practice the better you get.
