One of the causes of a car burning oil is a faulty PCV valve. It's relatively easy to change and will only cost you about $20! Try this first before you attempt to replace the head gasket.

A clogged or stuck-open PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve can cause a number of issues, including:
1. Increased Oil Consumption
2. Engine Running Roughly
3. Engine Stalling
4. Increased Emissions
Luckily, changing the PCV valve is really easy, and only requires the following tools:
1. Pliers
2. 19mm (or ¾”) Wrench

'05 ES 330. PCV value is hard to turn - should I try lubricating ? Also hose came of other end - I never loosened that end, it may have been off. Not sure were it connect to.

I would recommend a small amount of penetrating oil. Let it sit for a day or 2 then re-apply. You don't want to damage the old PCV valve, as it has a hollow core and can break with too much force, so take care.
