I love the channel man and have been subscribed since about last February when I picked up my 2014 GX460. I got it with 97k miles on it. It was well maintained and well kept. I'm in the St. Louis, MO area but went up to see the "Toyota Car Care Nut" last May in Chicago and drove 4-5 hours to do so. I had an appt I and waited a month just to get in. I went to get everything checked and make sure I bought a good example. I bought it from a local Mercedes-Benz Dealership. He said I bought a great example and a rather one rare being what he called a true base model as nothing, especially suspension upgrades were added at all. It's just regular suspension front and back with the standard KDSS. He said there is one issue that I am going to run into in the future. He said in about 6 months going forward your KDSS needs servicing and he was showing me up on the rack what he was talking about. The bushing on the one side looked different than the other. He said he would love to service it now for me but he can't because the tool used to service the KDSS is on backorder and he currently has about 15 gx460's on his waiting list to get there KDSS Serviced. It's sounds like it's something you don't even have to think about before 100k but after you do. It will just start clunking back there and get worse as time. He said check with your local Lexus Dealerships and see if they have the tool to fix it the "right way". He said that is an issue because alot of shops have the tool and Dealerships but it's falling apart and will tell you they will dix it and charge but can't do it yhe right way because they dont have a new tool. It was something along those lines. I know you don't have that many miles but do you onow anything about this or have you heard anything about this?? I looked up about the tool myself and it's to de-pressurize and pressurize the system so I know that much. I found the "KDSS Fluid Pressure Pump Kit" for approximately $1,800 at Bosch Global / toyota.service-solutions.com I can't tell if it's actually in stock though even though it looks to be as I am not myself going to buy one. Any help with this and or comments/thoughts would be much appreciated. I do most my driving on the city streets as well so having a switch to turn the KDSS on and off would be nice. Therfore essentially would I could achieve is soaking up the bumbs a little bumber with the sway bar disconnected St. Louis streets are so bad that is like off-roading on road some of the time.........Last time I checked though Dr. KDSS was out of stock of basically everything on his entire webpage.

Shame that Lexus is only putting KDSS on the higher end trims / Overtrail trim on the new 2024 GX. Is it safe to say the lower end trims without KDSS will handle just as well when ON-road but suffer off-road? Or does KDSS help in other ways besides essentially locking the the stabilizer bar when on-road?

no... worse all around... ekdss articulates better offroad, also since it can disconnect they put a super thick sway bar for on road for much flatter handling... without ekdss they have to put on a "compromise sway bar"... no e-kdss on the lower trims and no 3rd row is a deal breaker for us 😢

How do you fix KDSS lean after lifting a GX with a 2.5 lift kit. My passenger side has a noticeable lean downward about an inch or two.

Noob question but just purchased a 2021 Lexus GX460 premium. Do all ranges of the 2021 GX come with KDSS or is it just on the luxury trim?

So, does the system recognise automatically when the vehicle goes offroad or does one need to manually disable it mechanically prior driving?

It automatically disables itself when the vehicle goes under a certain mph. can't remember but its somewhere between 8-12 mph. there's also a cool kdss disable switch where you can turn it off at higher speeds for stuff like washboard roads.

yes, once conditions are met the ecu opens up an electronic valve allowing the hydraulic fluid to move freely about the system... this has the effect of deleting one end link on each bar thus disconnecting each bar

KDSS is for on road and off road. Under certain conditions/parameters, where it would be desirable off road, it allows the suspension to behave like it has a disconnected stabilizer bar and stab. bar links. At other times, it acts to reduce body roll like a stiffer or thicker stabilizer.

When I drive above 15 mph my KDSS light turns on And stays in until I turn my vehicle off. Is this normal?

no it means you have a KDSS system malfunction. KDSS turns "on" right around 15mph... I belive the light is signaling a malfunction here...

It really disconnects the mount at the frame not at the end links. There’s actually not typical end links on this system. The bar is connected directly to the lower control arms with bushings and the center chassis mounts are now actually hydraulic rams thus allowing the entire sway bar to articulate when needed.
