Thanks for the video, needed this to confirm the lexus OEM shim placement

It's not necessary to remove the capiler. After removing the rod and plate, you can just pull the pads out toward you and slide the new ones right back in.

Yea I just took it off to clean everything and it’s not to much work to take off the caliper, but good looking out

Great video! Is it the same process for the rear brakes? Is it necessary to remove brake calipers for the rear brakes? Thanks much

I didn’t do the back brakes, so I’m not sure, it was my sisters car and she moved but when I see her I’ll do them and make a video

Omar....just got first front brake job and dealer states you “MUST’ replace the rotors when replacing pads on the F sport models... you agree??
@StarkJm935 жыл бұрын
Mark Rotondo I called my Lexus dealer when I had to get breaks done. That was never mentioned to me.
@PicnicDirtyRice5 жыл бұрын
For the F sport models its rotors every other time you do the brakes.
@markrotondo45085 жыл бұрын
Matthew, any specific reason why? Just curious and of course the $$$ makes a difference too!
@omarortega33104 жыл бұрын
my bad for the extremely late response, I would say no unless the rotors show excessive score marks or there not nice and smooth (like they should be), I did not change them because they were fine ( in my opinion the car dealerships just want you to do it so they can charge you more and say since you have a sport model you should change the rotors also)

How many miles you have before you replace the pads

Is it necessary to put both shims on? On regular vehicle, you just replaced the old ones with the new ones.
@omarortega33104 жыл бұрын
Yes that’s all I did replaced the old shims with the new ones, if you wanted to keep the old shims just clean them with brake cleaner really good
@smilinjoe234 жыл бұрын
So you don't put both shims on there ? I just replaced the old shims with the new one instead of putting both and now my ABs lights came on...
@omarortega33104 жыл бұрын
smilinjoe23 so yea in the video I only used one shim, ( the originals, you can see the piston marks on them, so I just cleaned them and greased them )because the new pads had one ( that’s attached to the actual brake pads) not sure if the ABS light would be due to that since those shims are really only there for the pistons of the caliber to squeeze up against when you hit the brake pedal, I did it exactly how I showed in the video and not have had any issues, I’m assuming your done changing the brakes and you drove it and that light is now on, if so how do the brakes feel, is it stopping normal

Don’t know the torque spec, I’ve always tightened it a little while it’s up off the ground, then lower it until it barley makes contact with the ground, then tighten it once more when it’s all the way on the ground ( tighten in star pattern also) it will be fine if you tighten it like that and make sure the lugnuts are securely tightened

Not removing the transmission?

@omarortega33102 жыл бұрын
Yea your right but I just did it exactly how it was from the factory, did not add anymore or less, but have not had an issue with noise at all
@itsval72 жыл бұрын
Actually for these model cars you absolutely need to put shims on top. Because if you don’t that’s what causes the squeak
