Lexus IS250 | IS350 EASIEST Way To Change The Starter - Tutorial DIY (2006-2012)

This is a step-by-step DIY guide aimed at bypassing the ridiculous steps listed by Lexus itself. This compares with other methods, and I found it to be the simplest, most straight forward. You can use a 3/8" drive set, but the 1/2" set is listed below with other necessary tools that are pretty good. Good luck!

Thanks for the video! My starter just went out today. I ordered it from Rock Auto also. I have a 2010 IS350, 198k miles. Alternator is still original.

Use a swivel socket for the top bolt. No need to use a long extension.😅

This is super smart way in KZbin it helps taking out starter from Lexus GS also

If your starter bolts are as tight as mine were you won't get that top bolt this way. I used a deep impact 14mm and a 20" extension. Then ratchet with a breaker pipe.

Hey. Are these part numbers the same for a 07 gs350 with a push-to-start? The old number is the same but has -84 at the end. But wanted to see if the new part number will work for my car? Thanks.

Hey, apologies, but I have no idea about that vehicle. I know that a lot of these starters are interchangeable, but you should definitely verify before buying one. Some part numbers supersede as time progresses. I'm more familiar with cross reference sites for Nissan or BMW, however, you might try Rockauto.com and try to pull up a schematic to reference the part number and it should list the newest part number. I buy Lexus parts from there, and it's pretty good. Also, this site may help: nemigaparts.com/cat_spares/cross/lexus/ That is a derivative of realoem.com which I use for referencing things on BMW's. What about awd models

I'm not sure if it'll work the same. Typically, AWD models have slightly more clearance in areas, but I cannot say what may be different or extra because I don't have one to experiment with. You may need to disconnect additional shafts or lines, etc. You can just use this as a reference and possibly default to a wheel removal entry method if need be. There are multiple ways to get to the starter. Play it by ear, but be careful you dont stress any parts. To be safe, you might want to try the other methods, it'll just take you a little longer.

LOL, I know what you mean. I had done so many starters and alternators in my life, and when I first looked at this I thought WTH... The good news is that the rest of this car has been solid for its age.
