The best Toyota Land Cruiser money can buy is the Lexus LX - tested here in LX 570 petrol V8 guise. Powered by a 5.7-litre naturally aspirated V8, the 2021 LX might be the last one ever offered with a traditional, bigger-is-better atmo V8. It’s expected that the next LX, based on the 300 Series Land Cruiser, will use a twin-turbo V6 petrol engine instead.
But is the LX 570 S a good buy so late in the life of the 200 Series? Is this seriously better than a Land Cruiser Sahara? Should you save your money and buy a Nissan Patrol? Or is something car-based like a Mercedes-Benz GLS, BMW X7 or Range Rover actually a more appropriate fit for your family?

I disagree with you. Owning one of these is much less expensive as compared to German SUVs in terms of maintenance. For example, you can drive up to 10,000 miles before being due for an oil change whereas you only get 5,000 miles on a Mercedes or BMW. Also, you have to change the transmission fluid, brake fluid, etc more frequently on the German SUVs as compared to LX.

@@saadmahmood5396 Yeah I get it, that is the only complaint with owning a GX 470 is it gets 12 MPG and now at 4.50 gallon for premium it gets tough, not really a communter car unless you live on dirt roads. I know petro is much more expensive elsewhere, so it is a local problem.

The Lexus' base is from 2008, kind of dated. Still, excellent review, and I like the car nevertheless. Very luxury and long reliability!

Currently own a no 300 h sports luxury, more than enough for our family of 4,if we ever want more room then the RX 450h will be superb choice.but I can’t see we will ever need a LX.however I do love the look of this vehicle .

Good review but you downgraded the fuel economy on this marvelous suv. I have been getting on highway 21 mpg at 62 mph speed on cruise control and premium fuel so a lot more than what the 16 mpg Lexus reports for highway! In city it is actually lower than the 12 mpg Lexus claims. Regardless, it is a superb suv and much better than the LX 600.

$188,666.... It would want to be nice. Has enough roof clearance for me to wear my top hat which a deal breaker in anything else. That front end looks out of scale to the rest of the shape. Subjective but I really don't know how well these will age in the style stakes.

In south Africa its actually way more expensive than the Toyota, same as Mercedes gls450 d. Its just too expensive 4 what u getting. The engine is too thirsty and most people can't afford such cars anyway.

At the risk of sounding condescending but who in their right mind would pick those over a range rover, GLS, X7, Q7/Q8? This does everything worse except off roading which we all know no one will be doing with their $180k+ SUV. I have never understood Lexus's appeal unless is it cheaper?

The answer lies here... Compare the current condition of an average 2004 LX with average 2004 X5, ML and Range rover. You can find solid LX with 350k+ kms all day long, while most BMWs, RRs, and mercs are falling apart at 150k kms.

Those buying the germans switch out their vehicles after 3-5 years either because they got bored of it or because the repair bill was getting too much... and thats saying something when those who can afford GLS/X7/Q7/Q8/RR think the repair bills r too expensive. And i know a guy who owns a cayenne. He sold it off when the repair bill after 1 year couldve bought him.. well.. another car. U want a luxobarge that can easily do half a million clicks and last for a decade atleast... u get these babies. The price didnt go to overengineering. The germans overengineer their vehicles. And thats not a bad thing. But toyota “overbuilt” the landcruiser model and its derivatives.

I couldn’t bring myself to purchase a “has-been” model like this or the LC-200. Yes, the LS is good but everything about the new model will be better. Ancient technology has no appeal. This car was designed 15 years ago........ In any case the V8 Touareg or X5 V8 is a vastly superior car for similar money 💰
