Lexus LX570 - 200 Series - Center Diff Lock Flashing . How to get it working again.

Very common issue with the 200 series, GX470 / Prado 120 series is the center diff lock gets stuck from lack of use. The first time my 2010 randomly started flashing the center diff lock light I did this process and then changed the t-case and diff fluids just to rule that out. Has done it a few more times over the years. Each time resolved with this process.

I take mine to a field once a month and try all the 4x4 essentials. Play around a little bit, and everything is good. Same with the AHC system. Any time I go through a drive through I start in the lowest position and work my way up. Leave it in high until I leave. Love your builds!

My diff lock was blinking as well moving back and forth helped.

Probably not your LX's problem, but on my GX, it helps to put both the transmission and 4hi/4lo selector in Neutral before engaging/disengaging the center locker.

Oh sick. Need to try this! I tried the figure 8 trick and that didn’t seem to do it. Did you warm up the LX transmission and what not first? I heard giving a good 20 mile run or so to get fluids nice and warm is helpful but unsuccessful for me.

Hey Adam....would you say the LX570 is as bulletproof with good maintenance as say a GX470?

Tough question. The 5.7 is a great motor, but not bulletproof. Common issues are coolant leaks from valley plate, did it on mine around 155k. Also timing cover leaks are fairly common, and expensive fix. I’ve heard of timing chain guides breaking, tensioners failing, etc. I like the 4.7 more as it’s a bit easier to service, and honestly the timing belt being changed every 80-100k, makes me trust it more than the “lifetime” timing chain. The chain will likely never break, but the components inside the cover will eventually fail. Ive got 208k on my wife’s GX470 and 175k on my LX570. Both awesome vehicles…. I Trust the GX a little more.

@@Avalonautogroup great advice. The logical progression I've always thought would be a 200 series as I love the look, but my GX only has 155k and has great maintenance and zero issues. Have owned it over 3 years.

Yeah, I moved from my 04 GX to the 10 LX, love it. Definitely more of a tank feel, and tows about 2k more which I use often to pull GX’s around between shops. Both amazing vehicles.
