I gotta say that as someone who has watched NHL hockey for nearly 50 years you are perhaps the most entertaining hockey commentator I have ever seen. I mean that sincerely, your take on the Vegas e-draft was funny as hell. I only wish your team of choice was the Vegas Golden Knights... (I boarded that bandwagon early in preseason) I can safely tell you that, as a Golden Knight fan WITH that nearly a half century of watching NHL hockey, I FULLY enjoy this Disney Movie of a season by the Knights. I have lived in Las Vegas for 40 years and believe me this town had been starving for a professional franchise, that the first turned out to be a NHL hockey team seems ironic (being the desert) but the IHL Las Vegas Thunder was actually pretty popular while it lasted (I went to at least a half dozen games) In any case though your team is the Leafs I was so entertained by this video I am now SUBSCRIBED!

I can't defend D. Sweeney exposing Colin Miller over Kevan Miller, in fact I wanted us to protect C. Miller all along. Subban on the other hand was pretty subpar for the Bruins, and Sweeney didn't draft him. Good for him he's finally playing well, but I don't much care; he's in the Western Conference.
@MommaDal6 жыл бұрын
Greer Fried Same!! Colin Miller had some potential and Kevan Miller is just a big hitter who plays okay defensively and trash on Offense
@queenofyeay6 жыл бұрын
As a long time Bruins fan (think Orr, Esposito, and Hodge) that's been living in Las Vegas for decades I saw Subban play for the Bruins and thought he showed SOME promise but could understand why they put him on waivers. I did not think he would be reborn in Vegas but the Knights goalie coach David Prior worked hard with Malcolm (and all the Vegas goalies obviously) to deconstruct his game, make him a LOT more contained and fundamentally sound. It has been an unqualified success. Malcolm's athleticism now adds to his newly sound fundamentals adding up to a 10-2 record for the VGK and a 2.25 GGA @ .922 save percentage. I honestly think Subban can be even better and a #1 somewhere if the Knights, for some dumb reason, don't hold on to him. The Colin Miller vs Kevan Miller situation is baffling to me too. Colin Miller has been in the thick of the Knights success, so I'm grateful Boston chose to keep the other Miller...

After the Tragedy of Oct. 1 Shooting, the fact that the Knights won the away games and Won the Home opener that was dedicated to the Victims of Route 91...Even then it felt like a Movie Script made real. Only, the dream kept rollin' on. After Fleury went down people were quick to count us out, but Subban steps up and plays well. Then Subban goes down and Oscar Dansk steps up and performs well. Then Dansk goes down and Legace, our 4th String Goalie and our 5th String Goalie, Ferguson who is 19 were tasked to keep us afloat. Now Fleury and Subban are back and with each win this team gains more confidence. So yeah, it's been unreal.

The old Posse? Damn, I still have a Posse T-shirt... I remember going to a Posse game at Sam Boyd stadium and a bunch of us yelling GO PUSSY GO! Every time the Posse had a good possession Hehehehe Not my best moment... Even though the Posse was a CFL team it never felt like a major league team... If anything the IHL Las Vegas Thunder was probably the closest thing to a success story in Las Vegas, and they had some real NHL talent at that time like Curtis Joseph and Radik Bonk, both had some time here, but for all that the Thunder was a fan favorite it was still a minor league team.

As far as your comment on the Leafs' D-core, what if Gardiner returned to his form of last year? That would be like having two Riellys and our top 4 wouldn't be too bad but we'd lean on them heavily in the playoffs. Would we be able to beat teams like Vegas, Tampa, Nashville? It'd be tough.

Oi Steve, Defense comes from both Forwards and Dmen. Whether the Leafs can do well with their Defense depends just as much (if not more) on the defensive work of their forwards as it does on their defensemen. The Leafs don't need another mid-range dman. They need one of the *better* top 4 d, and that won't make sense cap-wise until some of our existing dmen are off the books. It may be best to wait for Liljegren and Dermott to make the jump, rather than overspend now. A solid 3C is something the Leafs *do* actually need. Bozak is up at the end of the year and shouldn't be resigned. We have nobody in the pipeline that would make sense at 3C, and if Willy is moved there, Auston needs a 1RW so our top line can perform. Moore is also up at the end of this year, meaning we have 2 C spots to fill. I'm guessing that the Leafs defence will look a ton better with upgrades at 3C and 4C.

Doughty said it best after their recent loss to Vegas. They are a team made up of other teams third liners and good ones at that. Those guys are the toughest to play against. Add in a good defense and really good goalie and wasn't impossible to see them as a fringe team for playoffs. But they have blown even that modest prediction away and deserve a ton of credit. From top to bottom. I don't think they need to tank to be good. I think they have some core pieces worth keeping and adding to through the draft via all the picks they have.

I think what is holding me back from being a GM is my lack of French. But then, millions could say the same. Leafs D: I think the attention is on getting a top notch right handed shot, but you are not going to get that without moving one of the Leaf core "untouchables". And I don't think it's necessary. No, I don't think the Leafs are a contender with this defense corp. But I think maybe they could be if they added just the right player on defense. Think in terms of the whole being greater than the sum of the parts. You are probably on the right track with Petrovich.

Vegas got to pick a team built of 6th forwards and 4th defensemen. Given that they presumably chose defensemen from teams deeper on defense and forwards from teams deeper up front, they built a team of genuine top 6 forwards and middle pairing defensemen. Add to that a couple second goalies from teams with 2 good goalies, and the Knights SHOULD be a good team. Additionally, they got to pick contracts they liked. The Knights are good because the expansion rules were absurdly kind to Vegas. Every bad NHL team should be livid that Vegas was all but guaranteed a better team than they have.

Just absurd......I’d bet you’re one if the people that was saying that Vegas wouldn’t win more than 30 games after the team was picked. Almost everyone was saying how bad of picks McPhee did in his picks. It’s funny how everyone’s tones changes while eating their words. Go cry some more....
@jadegreen33676 жыл бұрын
Before Vegas ever picked, we had a decent sense of who and what they were going to get. I personally really like Vegas (it's definitely on my top 5 teams), but I really dislike when everyone adds before their successes, "even though they're an expansion team." Because while I give credit while credit is due, it's not like you can compare Vegas to any other expansion team that has ever existed. The rules are different. Even when people mention that Vegas will be the first expansion team that has a winning record, I have to shake my head, because that's like comparing oranges to apples, even if you want to argue on technicality. What Vegas should get credit for is dominating the Pacific with players that have never played as a unit before. The new expansion draft rules ensured that they would have at least a middle-of-the-pack roster, but they took what could have easily been an average team and made it a playoff-viable team in their first run.
@AkaSilverShroud6 жыл бұрын
Jeff Thorn I agree with what you said in terms of if the context you stated is true but you are assuming he ever doubted the team McPhee picked... he could have had his opinion the whole time in which case he makes valid points and isn't really crying but trying to draw attention, however if he doubted the success of Vegas at any point it becomes a double standard and you are correct
