⁠@@ariccua6101that was 8 years ago. He has fallen off heavily since then and hasn’t been an NHL caliber goalie in over 5 years. Don’t get me wrong I’m rooting like hell for him to hold the fort until Sammy gets his game back and Woll comes back but no one should have an ounce of confidence in him due to him being a non-option for half a decade. Without mediocre our defense has been and how bad Jones has been for a long time we should be very nervous.

Jones is a legend. He can play like a god for about a month, and then will alternate between giving up 7 goals and getting shutouts. He will not post a save percentage above 899. He will also drag teams into the playoffs. He did it for the Kings, Sharks, and showed he could still do it with the Kraken last year. He will fit right in on this chaotic Leafs team.

I think it wasn't just the bonus trick, Jones' contract is also one way-- he gets the same in the AHL as the NHL. I suspect that a lot of teams wouldn't want to pay their #3 875,000 to play in the A-- either on principal, or for economic reasons. Either way though, it's interesting how the Leafs made such a small contract as unattractive as possible for other teams.

Thank you, Steve. I'm old and not in good health, and I am cheering myself up by imagining that I might be able to see the Leafs win a Stanley Cup again. I was too young to truly appreciate what it meant when they did. It was actually reasonable to believe it would continue to be a frequent occurrence. ( cue the short bitter laugh ). There have been a few seasons when hope reared it's ugly beastly head and then ripped my still beating heart out of my chest and threw it on the altar of bizarre Leafs mischance. I became a bitter old Leafs fan resigned to seeing defeat being snatched from the jaws of victory. Resigned to seeing greatness being denied by the malignant criminal Harold Ballard, whose death did not seem to have the happy results it should have had. On and on it went, until some kid scored 4 goals in his first NHL game! A small flame sparked into existence. Now, if only the management could grasp the concept of building from the net out! No? The flame dims. Then another kid comes along and actually does all the proper goalie positioning and movements in the measured way they should be done. He can even do the Jake the Snake moves when necessary ( look it up, you'll enjoy it ). The flame brightens. Two items are still missing; the true number one horse defenseman and the inspirational warrior. It could happen, not likely this year, but, having Steve Dangle around is making the wait a lot easier. Thanks, Steve.

Sucks so much, Wolls not only playing the best hockey of his life but he’s also like the nicest guy ever. You never want anyone to get injured but out of anyone this is the last guy you’d want to get hurt. Hoping he gets a fast recovery could’ve seen him in an all star game if he kept it going.

yeah i totally forgot they won today, regulation win and everything - the game ended, and i had that feeling of sadness and dread that i feel after a loss. though, tbh, i can't say im super worried about sammy-jones for a little bit - idk, i feel like goalies tend to pop-off randomly when they're put in a position where they absolutely need to. i have no stats or specific examples or anecdotes, just feel like it happens. like it's their fight-or-flight response, they just will the good saves into existence. i've got belief in sammy to pick it up from the start of the season :)) i just want woll to heal up and get well soon, for himself, and for my twitter timeline --- like he literally just brightens my feed when i see a picture of him smiling :))))))

i was watching the game in Vancouver at The Reagle Beagle, a LEAFS bar, and it was a full and lively crowd watching the play. When Woll went down, the entire bar collectively gasped and said "NO!!!" as if on cue in a Broadway musical. The bar went completely silent as Woll was helped off. When Jones came on, people said "Who's that?" Well, he showed us pretty quickly. He did a great job coming in cold after Joe Woll's Vezina performance. Bad news for Woll, but hopeful signs for the Leafs.

When I said this team needed defencemen as soon as Liljgrenn went down I was proven right again because now we might be without Woll for an extended period of time, Samsonov and his consistency is a huge question mark this season and now we are running Martin Jones as a backup. Brodie has lost a few steps and seems to be giving away the puck like there's no tomorrow and I'm almost certain he's not coming back next year so you might as well cast him away to try and make the cap work and get an upgrade or pull a lateral to get an actual RHD who plays well defensively. I think the thing that pissed me off the most is that Toronto played like absolute shit last night only up until Woll went down and then they felt the need to try which is so infuriating because it's like the team knows that they are going to be bailed out by Woll's insane performance so they don't feel the need to try which is annoying as fuck.

Tough to see Woll go down like that he had firmly took that number one job and was running away with it. Have full confidence he will keep it up once he recovers. He’s calm in there he moves fluently and seemingly effortlessly when he’s dialed in which is more often than not. As a caps fan I really am getting prime Holtby vibes from him.

I think it was the second Tarasenko stop where he tweaked something in his leg/hip.. when he came across his foot was jammed up against the post with his leg strait and kind of sprung off the post.. I think he jammed his hip but what was confusing is during a tv timeout he was rubbing his right side but it was his left leg he couldn't put pressure on. I just pray its not serious.

Called it, the way Woll had to play, a groan or lower body injury was bound to happen. No defence letting your goalie hang to dry is play Russian roulette. Jones did a marvelous job despite being peppered. Time to trade Nylander ASAP for defenceman or I predict a wild card finish and a quick round 1 loss in the post season.

I blame tree-living and Tavares for Woll's injury! If you look closely at last night's game, you'll see that Woll had to make no fewer than six 10-bell saves including 3 breakaways!! Tree-living has known for weeks now that the defense has been non-existent and did nothing about it! The leafs D left Woll hanging out to dry and were outshot 38 to 22. Woll was overworked and not supported. Then you have a parasitic $11M forward in tavares who is clueless and hopeless defensively and no better offensively and should never have been named captain! And finally, you have a coach in keefe who is equally inept and incapable of training and helping the defenders he does have become better at what they do. Keefe is useless! Feel sorry for Woll!

Lots of injuries to deal with, but ever since we lost Zach Hyman to Edmonton, there isn’t anyone on this team that can forecheck and actually keep the puck in the O-zone and set up the big boys for a goal. It’s amazing we win games! Every team dominates us 5 on 5. We can’t get it out of our own end and we can’t keep in the offensive end. Fingers crossed we get back our injured players, especially Woll!!

STEVE! Pls be happy that finally Leaf's got their 6th regular seasons win in regulation... And not in OT. Now they have 6 regulation wins, and again tied with Sharks if I'm not mistaken. I do not love the idea that Woll is out. What if it's so serious injury that he comes maybe for Play-offs? as a goalie i've had all kinds of muscle pulls and strains and they don't stop you putting weight down...that's gotta be a cooked knee. Up until woll got hurt that was some of the best goal tending I've seen a Leaf goalie play in years if not a decade. That was the type of game Leafs had no business winning, and the type of game we as leafs fans have asked from time to time. Which was steal a game, like grand larceny. And like all things in leafs nation , we can't have nice things. Its Samsonov net ...for now.

I’ve seen a fair few Martin Jones games from his time with the Sharks. Is he the best goalie ever? Not even close. Will he give you a chance? More often than not, yes. You could do way worse for a 3rd stringer.

I find when a goalie can't put weight on his leg it's at least 6 weeks. There's damage to nerves and muscles that take a long time plus therapy.
