Steve Perry is the lead singer, and that super high, almost siren like sound you hear during the guitar solo is Steve’s falsetto. He’s a monster.

He was a tenor altino back in the day. The high notes he hit were rarely falsetto and his speaking voice was on the high side. How ever you cut it, pretty fabulous.

Van...strap yourself in! No. 1 Journey fan here!! Album: Evolution- 1979. First album to feature The Voice - Steve Perry. Journey also features Guitar Master - Neal Schon who, at the age of 15 had the choice to play with two legendary rock bands. Neal chose Santana. Journey was the hardest touring band of the 80’s. They toured and recorded back to back albums for 9 straight years. Huge Rabbit Hole my friend.

He said no: he already committed to play in Santana! 🤯 Later, he left to found Journey! 🤯 During the guitar solo, Steve Perry nearly has a whistle note! 🤯 You will see this in the live video. In the recent revision of Journey, new lead singer Arnel Pineda dies the same thing! 🤯 Do check out Arnel Pineda. He also has great duets with Filipina singer Morissette Amon, the Phoenix of Asia! 🇵🇭🤯 She is known for Akin Ka Na Lang, Emotions + Fly Like a Bird! 🤯

@GBeret83
@GBeret83 3 жыл бұрын
@LFR Family, the singer is Steve Perry arguably the best that rock has ever produced. The guitarist is Neil Schon who began his career playing for Santana before Journey formed, and the drummer is Ansley Dunbar, although if memory serves, the album Wheel in The Sky come off of called Infinity, ended up being his last with the band. He was replaced by Steve "Machine Gun" Smith, also a terrific drummer in his own right, but I was also really fond of Ansley Dunbar's drumming as well. If you want to hear Steve Perry give you chill bumps, react to his performance of the song "Patiently" from the Midnight Special in 1978. It can be found on KZbin, and his vocals during the performance are incredible.

The guitar players name is Neal Schon he was West Coast guitarist of the year for 11 years! And please don't underestimate their background harmonies! I still don't think you realize what a freaking nature Steve Perry was and is! Checkout Don't Stop Believin that was their biggest hit it was a banger and the year the White Sox won the World Series that was their theme song they invited Steve Perry to sing the national anthem and the place went nuts do a deep dive you won't be sorry

Greg Rollie was the original vocalist for journey. The original band consisted of solid musicians like Neil Schon on the guitar and Ansley Dunbar on drums. The earlier albums had a cool vibe with solid writing and impeccable musicianship. Bringing Steve Perry into the mix changed their sound, obviously. His brighter tone and high range lent itself to a crossover sound. "Journey" wouldn't have been possible without the solid foundation that the original members brought to the band.

Don't listen to anyone who recommends one of the top 3 or 4 radio hits... "Mother, Father" live. Houston, TX show. Steve Perry's vocals are next level, and this song is lyrically DEEP. You'll see that this guy doesn't need a studio to sound phenomenal. Pay attention to the very end of the song... there's a long note in the background that I always thought was a synthesizer tone, until I finally saw the song live... it's Steve Perry hitting (and holding) this high note. Worth watching just for that. YOU WON'T BE SORRY !!!

Next? The "back to back" legendary song duo that is "Feelin That Way"/"Anytime". They were always played together, back to back (about a one second pause between them) on radio because that is how they were put together on the album. It will also let your hear their other lead singer, Gregg Rolie, who has quite the pipes too. Ever heard "Black Magic Woman", "Oye Como Va," or "Evil Ways" by Santana? That was Rolie singing. He shares lead with Perry on both songs and it is pure fire!!!!!
