Hello you all hope you all safe and healthy I just Finished my moms compressor replacement Kenmore Elite had to re-flash the latest software is Version 8.7 When using the Jig a screen will ask if you have replaced compressor ( Yes ) Push and hold button until it beeps then proceed with the rest of instructions apparently they left this step out of the instructions 6 hrs later cool down in progress freezer temp at 45 degrees and going down Thank You Sir great video .

I wish I would have known in 2017. The reviews and repair reports were very good on LG back then. I researched the hell out Refrigerators before buying. Samsung was and still is also total crap. These refrigerators are good other than this time bomb of a compressor.

@Adam Trautman well, I got the compressor for free but now having cooling issues with the freezer. It's only at 22.5 degrees. The tech came out and found the high pressure line acting funny. He recovered and refilled. I will see what it's like in the morning. The fridge is 33 degrees and only set to 37 degrees.

What ever you do DON'T buy a LG refrigerator. LG has compressor problems and owners are considering a class action law suit. My LG stopped working last night and it's less than 5 years old. It will take more to fix than replace. Do your research on the internet.

The new compressor will run without the update. Supposedly, the update makes the refrigerator works smarter, not harder. Also… not all units will take that universal compressor .

Well you're going to want to also replace the condenser and the fresh food evaporater every time I have taken those apart and just did the compressor and the dryer less than a year later the compressor goes bad again because there's oil inside of the condenser and oil inside of the fresh food evaporator if it's the dual evap units

My wife is wanting a LG fridge but I’m curious if they have corrected the compressor failure issues. The lawsuit said it was related to corroding lines getting pinholes leading to a compressor failure but have they actually updated parts and corrected the issue? I update is nice but they can hide issues with updates like in automotive applications. Updates can be a cheap masking fix for manufacturers.

Hello-Great explanation. We had the same compressor upgrade process described in this video-to include the programming. The tech replaced the compressor and starter, programmed the PCB and put the JIG sticker on the back of the fridge indicating the work was done on 3-26-20. The compressor is operating at 115 degrees (temp gun near the red tag), the line going to the condenser is 110 degrees and the return line at the dryer is 86 degrees. The temp inside the fridge is almost 90 degrees. The temp inside the freezer is 86 degrees. The model is a Kenmore Pro 795.79993.510 and the new LG compressor FLS075LANA. Everything seems to be running and sounds great but there is no cooling inside the fridge. I also put some liquid soap on the weld points and it doesn't seem to be leaking. Wondering if there is any freon in it at all. Any ideas?

Randy Kramer The same problem you are experiencing I did it too and the way I fix it at the end I replace the 2 evaporator coil top and bottom , and Filter Dry , The system was contaminated by the old compressor and a blocked the system so the Freon was not circulating, The solution will be cleaning the coils with high-pressure air or replace them

Then you have to measure voltage between pins 1&2, and 2&3. If 1&2 is more than 2&3 you use the white connector. If not, you use the red

This repair won't last more than 1-2 years. You didn't follow proper procedure to replace compressor. Moisture left in system will rust the condensor internally and wear out the compressor. 1. You always need to replace drier when replacing compressor. 2. You need to use micron gauge and pull vacuum below 500 microns and it should stay below 1000 microns after closing valves. 3. You need to charge system with gas not liquid from low side.

You are correct about replacing the filter/drier, also he didn't purge the system with dry nitrogen or use a micron gauge. You have to pump down to 500 microns, let it rest for 1/2 hour to stabilize to under 1000 microns. I didn't see him do a nitrogen gas flow during brazing in order to keep out internal oxidation scale-just good practice.

Our Kenmore Elite fridge had its first compressor go bad after just 3 months. We paid $330 for labor to replace it with the same (linear) compressor. Now, less than 2 yrs later, that compressor has also failed and we got a $540 estimate for labor to replace it with the newer Universal Compressor from LG. Now that these universal compressors have been out for a year or so...what kind of track record are you seeing with them? Should I invest another $540 to fix it or just cut my losses and buy something else? Any help is appreciated.

You can. There's no issue with this since its a low amount of charge. usually less then 5 oz. occasionally its like 6.17 oz. your not putting pounds of refrigerant in it like an outdoor AC unit.

it is not recommended, but you can. BUT compressor must NOT be running AND you have to wait until pressure will equalize true the system. Otherwise you will permanently damage compressor.

It means your board is too old. you need to replace your main pcb. a handful of main boards can't take the update due to one reason or another..

The cabinet definitely has to be flushed. There’s all kinds of god awful black stuff that come out of it and the condenser (there’s also a service bulletin about rust inside the Yoder.). New drier is a must, not only on this one but all makes.

@@whatfreedom7 I haven’t read into the lawsuit but the compressors have been given a bad name. Most likely, the evaporator leaks and the compressor runs itself to death. I suggest no matter where you go, and what you buy, get an extended warranty. I settled on a Samsung, knowing that it has a $1000 ice maker problem. I just made sure that I bought the one with two ice makers.

I most likely will get the extended warranty but I did see where the LG compressors have a 10 year warranty on the now which is good as long as it’s not some repeated failure. I also saw where they supposedly did a update on the issue in 2020 but the article didn’t go into any detail about it. I’m just just to figure out which POS I want at this point because the wife wants one and how much am I willing to pay for said POS. It’s sad because my old Maytag is over 18 years old and I’ve only had 2 tiny issues out of it but the wife is set on a new French door style stainless fridge. She really likes the styling and features of LG and Samsung but they both have issues.

@@whatfreedom7 I shut the trouble ice maker off. That’s the only guaranteed fix. When the older LGs sprang a leak, the compressor compensated for it and ran hard to keep it cold, then eventually it dies. The new update keeps the compressor from doing that, so once it springs a leak, it stops cooling soon after, but the compressor lives. Don’t get rid of the Maytag. Put it in the garage.

You can just do the update. It just tells the board how to react and optimize the compressor on and off due to the compressors' output performance at the time.

Nope. Go for it. You're just changing software in a chip so when called into play, will operate the condenser and compressor at different times and on status lengths, differently.

Probably because it was still a similar functioning compressor. Linear vs Rotary. I think the latest updated one is Rotary, requiring the board update to compensate. How is yours doing as of now? Hello. I'm trying to help out a friend of mine who lives in Jamaica W.I. His refrigerator's compressor recently stopped working and LG sent him a new one under warranty. He had to purchase the jig. A repair man installed the compressor for him and updated the fridge using the jig. After the new compressor was installed and the fridge was powered back on. The fridge now functions, but is no longer cooling properly. The main part of the fridge is running at 8c and the freezer is running at -2c (even though it should be running at -18c). The compressor is running at 51c. The fridge struggles just to freeze the ice trays and the ice maker isn't working at all. Can you think of any reason why this would be happening? Thanks for ANY suggestions you may have.

Snowmation yes , The only thing I can think right now that probably happened is probably that they needed to put more Freon inside because of the LG compressor in order to you to install the new Freon you had to use a scale valve, for they can install the right amount of Freon

Sounds like it doesn't have enough of a charge... I'd be checking the high side and low side pressure. Or evacuate and charge by weight. Should be around 5 oz (check your tag).

I just received my compressor but when I opened the box, the instructions said I needed a S/W writing jig and maybe a new capacitor according to one video I watched. Given all that you said, and what was suggested by the host, one year later has this issue been resolved, because I'm in the process to purchase the same upgrade kit, maybe the capacitor and now possibly a scale valve as suggested. Is there any update or advice that you can give?

@@paradiseshimmy Yeah the jig worked fine and the fridge is doing its thing now. The issue my friend had was the fridge hadn't been fully re-gassed properly but once that was redone the fridge worked perfectly. So I expect you should be fine once you get the jig.

Does the device for Control Board update come with the Compressor? Or you had to buy separately?

Did you replace filter dry? Did you used nitrogen went you welding the line? What the micron in your gage went you finish vacuum ? You charge as a liquid or vapor?

Wow! Modern appliances what junk particularly Samsung and LG software/firmware on a refrigerator what kind of sorcery is this? Give me a mechanical thermostat with the remote liquid filled capillary probe and that is all that is need for a refrigerator or window AC these electronically controlled appliances are made to fail I had a window AC that the relay that controlled the compressor failed closed it would run as soon as mains power was provided I loved that (I like my place as close to 60°F as possible) until the evaporator froze over and sprung a leak and that was bye bye 21 OZ of R22 (the good stuff not this R410A R32. or R600A crap) and therefore the end of that unit is was a big beast too (12K BTU unit the largest 120VAC unit at the time)

We had a tech replace our compressor and it would only cool for like 4 days then stop. I don't think he updated the software. Could that be the reason? OR will the compressor not start at all without the new update? they did eventually refund our money though..

The update shouldn't have mattered. It's only for longevity and talking to the compressor as to when to turn on and off. Makes it more efficient and compatible with the internal rotary if they changed it from a linear compressor.

Great Video! I just had this FLS compressor replacement done on my Kenmore Elite with the firmware flash by A&E Factory Service, however now it freezes everything in both freezer and fridge sections. All thermistors read good, and defrost heaters are working. Another tech suspects the control board (Current is ERB78940614) will also need to be replaced with model ERB78940603. Any ideas?

UPDATE: Replaced the control board with the new "Gen 3 Refresh" model ERB78940603. Fridge temp is pretty much right on what I set it to except for the Temp-controlled deli drawer in the fridge, it freezes everything staying at around 10'F. Freezer stays about 29-32'F regardless of the temp I set it to. I was getting random "r-DH" errors after it ran for a couple days, unplugging the power and letting it sit for a while before plugging it back in would reset it, but it would come back. I replaced the Fridge defrost heater sensor and fuse, that eliminated the error so far. Im going to start replacing sensors now too, hopefully that solves the issue, I'll report back as it may help others.

My Kenmore Elite has LG compressor. The compressor getting too hot, but not cooling the refrigerator. What could be the issue? Is the compressor fried/stuck? I tried the test button. The blow fan runs for while and stops, compressor get very hot. Thanks.
