In this tutorial, I'll be showing you how to unlock the bootloader for any G3 variant and install a TWRP custom recovery in only a few minutes. This method requires NO computers and is easy to accomplish.
The only requirement for this process is that your G3 is rooted. We've got you covered in the tutorial linked above with full instructions on getting that done.

This video is great, thanks! Its just a shame that there isn't more android development happening on the at&t variant. Its like choosing between having an unlocked boot loader with a rooted stock rom or getting that android L update.

Question. It definitely worked but phone doesn't go into recovery mode when I hold the volume down and power button. I'm able to use rom manager to get to it however. Is there a reason it didn't go straight to it like yours? I'm on the Verizon variant.

Thanks for tutorial - unfortunately it's not that simple for many LG G3 variants. LG G3 is still great today with latest release from lineageOS. I was able to downgrade from MM to Kitkat, then root, bump install TWRP and then flash lineageOS. Great outcome, but it took a lot of work.

Hope you read this, but how did you downgrade? I'm trying to use lg flash tool 2014, but when i try cse flash it just says csmg b2c client missing. I've tried to edit host files as suggested by one video but I still get the same message. Very frustrating.

I don't understand the concept of bump? Also how did they get a custom recovery to work when when the bootloader was locked?

Just download "quick boot" from the store. It's a one button push for recovery, reboot, off or download mode. works excellent and it's free...

I did the exact same thing in the video, when the lg logo boots up as I try to go into twrp, it shows a boot error on the top left corner and then the screen goes black. I have a canadian model D852 running L. Please help! thanks.

Ok good quick question I need some help deciding which phone I should get I am thinking between the LG G3 or the Note 4 I also rather have a device with soft keys rather then hardware keys so any thoughts?

I'll been a Samsung guy for a while now, but have been using the Nexus 5 for the past month or so. And of course, I've messed around with the LG G3 quite a bit. I never thought I'd prefer the soft keys over physical buttons, but I actually do. I was also debating between the G3 and Note 4...now though, I think I'm waiting for the Nexus 6.
