Yes Neo, the NSA does indeed want to watch you watching TV in your underwear. That's one of the major drawbacks to this technology from my perspective. Total loss of privacy and being under constant surveillance even in your own home. I'd figure out where the camera is and cover it up first thing. I am interested in this TV and enjoyed your extensive review. I have seen the price for the LG OLED55B6P going for under $1700.00 dollars on Amazon. I even saw a few other online stores for under $1500.00 so the price is falling.

You have had this tv for almost a year now (assuming you have not changed it). Have you had any issues? Burn-in? Or any tips for a new user? I just bought this yesterday "dirt cheap" from my local electronic shops last stock. Anything we new OLED users should know or be careful with?

Thanks for the review. Has there ever been a time when you were hoping to get more brightness or more "pop" out of the picture? I've had my eye on these sets as the holy grail of current TV's, but I see some reviews that complain about not being able to get enough brightness out of it.
@FamilyHomeTheater7 жыл бұрын
The only time was watching the first episode of season 2 of "The Man in the High Castle", but I'm pretty sure that was the fault of the source material, not the TV. I haven't had any other issues where I thought it needed to be brighter.

it is size vs picture quality. If you you want a better picture and the 10 inch size difference does not bother you, then go with the LG. OLEDs are superior and brightness won't be an issue.

@Pepperowni8 жыл бұрын
hey, great review thanks for that. I'm curious though, will this tv make 1080p content even better (or at least not worse) or is it only recommended if you stick to 4k content?
@yeagernick8 жыл бұрын
The TV should upscale most content that's < 4k. So if your source is 1080p it'll be upscaled and it should look even better; it definitely won't look worse.
@Pepperowni8 жыл бұрын
allright man. What about SD stuff? Is it watchable? I know it's silly to even ask for SD quality on such a television but i'm watching like 90% amazon/netflix and 10% SD television.
@FamilyHomeTheater8 жыл бұрын
In my experience, everything looks better. You don't have to watch just 4K content. The contrast alone makes everything look better. It does upscale lower resolution content, but it won't make 1080p look like native 4K. But it won't look bad either.

I have the same tv and I have the Samsung Ultra HD 4K bluray player. The best 4K bluray I have seen for picture quality is Planet Earth 2 . It is done in 16 by 9 so there are no bars. It really shows what the OLED tv is capable of.

Nice review. I wanted to know how the TV handles a hi-def cable pic. Any high end 4K Ultra HD TV will look great with 4K material (UHD Blu-rays, 4K streaming, etc.). How well does this TV upscale a 720P or 1080i cable broadcast? I ordered one during the recent black Friday deals. With the prices coming down big time, I couldn't help myself.
@FamilyHomeTheater8 жыл бұрын
I cut the cable years ago, and just stream and watch Blu Rays. One thing I can say is that as with much high end gear, the television will faithfully display the content. If the content is good, the TV will display it well. If the content is garbage, the TV will display the garbage. Low Def does look good on this TV, though, if it was recorded well. But you can tell if the show you are watching used cheap equipment. So far this is rare in my experience. The main thing is if a show used a camera that didn't handle dark scenes well, it will show.

Great review ! .. one quick question what is your take on C6 model ? I like the B6 model and I am not a fan of 3D but for the same price I am getting 3D option with curved.
@FamilyHomeTheater8 жыл бұрын
If you don't have 3D movies now, I don't see a benefit of the C6. On a tv this small (compared to a theater screen) the 3D effect won't be that great unless you sit close. As far as the curve goes, I don't like curved screens. It's a marketing gimmick that hopefully dies off soon.
@kiranmudumbi4558 жыл бұрын
Family White TV Thanks!! Appreciate the response. I ended up buying B6, I am not much into curved screen 3D is the only reason I thought of C6 but you'e spot on it will not be that effective. Best buy played 3D video on 55" E6 and it looked awesome but again we are standing close not sure of the same effect when sitting far from the screen.

kiran mudumbi I had same dilemma and went with the c6. The best buy demo of 3d was what sold my wife and I on the c6 over the b6. I went in 100% sure I was buying the b6 since I never watch 3d movies, but that demo sold me. With that said, I haven't watched any 3d movies in the week I've had it lol.

Best you can do is see if you can view them both in a Best Buy and see which you prefer. Might be hard to tell that way, though. Ideally you would want them side by side and would play identical material on both. Some stores will allow you to buy both and will take back the "loser", but make sure they won't charge a huge restocking fee if you do that.

I got into the hd tv's back in 2005 when Sony had their SXRD technology out. I waited for the 1080p version to become available, and then Black Friday sale, the price went from $2,800, to $2,000, no interest for 24 months at Circuit City. I got one, loved it, I knew I had to change the bulb in about two years, then my friend said to me your screen is green a little. After checking out the internet, found out about the class action lawsuit against Sony. The choice was a 40" Sony for free or a 55" for $300. Since I had a 50" at the time, I got the 55", that was Oct. 2011. When I checked the price of that 55" tv on Best Buy's website at the time, it was going for $1,800. I have it today and it works fine so I will wait a few more years unless it breaks, cause my wife doesn't want me spending that kind of cash over two years again for another tv that I don't really need, but I just want one cause they are awesome looking. Enjoy your new TV when you get it!

If you don't mind me asking, what pushed you towards the LG E6 over the lower end models C6/B6? Those are the models I find myself stuck between. Right now the price difference between them is about $500. In your opinion is the E6 worth that extra money?
@NightmareonAnyStreet_8 жыл бұрын
Darkntwisty88 it all depends actually on what u feel is worth more or not. I mean the e6 and the c6 have lower input lag than the b6 and the b6 doesn't have 3d if you watch 3d and of course the c6 has the slight subtle curve which I'm not sure you like. As far as pq between the whole line up they should be all equally the same given minor details that may be better on the more expensive sets
@FamilyHomeTheater8 жыл бұрын
From what I understand, the advantages of the E6 is that it is 3D capable, has "picture on glass" meaning the picture appears on the surface rather than "behind" the glass, and has a nice integrated soundbar. If you don't have/don't want 3D movies, and already have a nice sound system, the E6 doesn't make much sense. I can't speak to the "picture on glass"... the E6 at the Best Buy I visited wasn't on for some reason.

This article may help: www.avsforum.com/lcd-wins-hdr-oled-wins-sdr-vote-in-uk-shootout/ The gist is that for HDR, seems LCD is the preferred display technology due to it's ability to display higher peak brightness than OLED. But for SDR, OLED is the winner due to it's incredible blacks.

Here's a video where I measured gaming lag and motion blur hooked up to my laptop. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJmYp2mIacmqq9U When hooked to a PC, it looks great as long as you have your desktop at 4K. Games look great also if you have a video card that can push 4K at acceptable frame rates. (Games look great at 1080 also, though) Just be sure to turn your windows screen saver on if using this as a monitor. I doubt you would see burn in with regular use, but if you leave it on your desktop for hours and hours and hours with no screen saver active, you will probably suffer some.
@redroosteralexander8 жыл бұрын
Yeah I own the the EG9100 OLED and it peaks at 89 nits at max white screen. Which makes the white level hella dim and very difficult to read web comics. The B6 peaks at 151 nits max full white screen and has way better white levels. I just saw a video of fellow B6 owner using the B6 as a monitor and from the looks of it looks pretty damn good! Yeah I know about the image retention. Plasma's have the same issue but OLED's handle it better.

Curious to what are your thoughts between hdr10 streaming and Dolby vision streaming which is better? And is there any way for me to choose hdr10 streaming on the tv instead of Netflix defaulting to Dolby Vision?
@FamilyHomeTheater7 жыл бұрын
The TV supports both formats. The format used depends entirely on what the source material was encoded with. To date, UHD-BD disks use HDR 10. However, there will be disks in the future that use Dolby Vision. Streaming services currently seem to be using Dolby Vision encoding. If the source material is encoded with Dolby Vision, there is no way to make it use HDR10. Which format is better? It's kinda a moot point unless they start releasing movies encoded with both formats. The main point is there are two formats, which one is used is up to the content provider, and the TV supports both.
@jermainephillips97267 жыл бұрын

can you comment on Image retention? I keep hearing all these good things about this TV, but a lot of people ignore the fact that the tv has image retention problems and imo is unacceptable for the cost of this thing.
@FamilyHomeTheater8 жыл бұрын
Look for the 32:27 minute mark where I talk about image retention: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5y4Y5VvotWhfskm27s This TV is not a snowflake. You really have to abuse it to get image retention. The majority of people who say they did have image retention said it completely went away in a short amount of time. The TV has a built-in "clear panel noise" (image retention) function. It also has a built-in screen saver in case you forget to turn it off. If you use it as a monitor, you just need to remember to enable your screen saver. If you leave it on a Windows desktop for 8 hours, you may get image retention, but it can be fixed. So far, I haven't noticed any image retention.

sexydanny21awesome how different is 20/20 compared to p3 ?? I thought this TV has dolbyvision or something that can go up to 12 bits
@sexydanny21awesome8 жыл бұрын
***** Yeah Dolby Vision is amazing but 20/20 colour is even more amazing. 20/20 colour space is like almost double the colours of P3. They call it 20/20 colour space because it reaches almost as much colour as human eye can see. Dolby refers more to HDR specs though so thats a different colour space. Just think of it this way Dolby HDR is best HDR and 20/20 colour space is top colour space where P3 is the standard Ultra HD colour space now.
@sexydanny21awesome8 жыл бұрын
This TV has support for Dolby Vision players in the future it also can stream 4k Dolby movies on Netflix making one best TVS out there you can actually buy. There is only one Dolby Vision player released so far and It's the Panasonic 4k Blu-Ray player however it does cost 799 dollars which kinda insane in price but the TV also supports HDR 10. However there has been no Dolby Vision 4k Blu-Ray discs released as of yet so you will have wait to see Dolby Vision on 4k Blu-Ray discs. You will be able to stream 4k Dolby Vision on Netflix though which way better than normal 4k Netflix. Think about it like this a normal 4k stream takes 25 MPS where a Dolby HDR 4k Netflix stream takes 35 MPS because It's way better. So the streaming on Netflix thing is really the reason buy this TV over the other TVs.

And what are the downsides of this thing? There must be something?
@FamilyHomeTheater8 жыл бұрын
The biggest downside (other than it cost more than "regular" TVs) is that it does not output as high a peak brightness as the high-end LCD competitors. In general, people prefer OLED for viewing SDR (standard dynamic range) content, but prefer LCD when viewing HDR content. Since 99.9% of what I watch is SDR, for now this TV is the best choice in my opinion. But if you have the cash to purchase a bunch of 4K UHD Blu-Rays, a high end LCD may be the better choice.

It is LG's "WebOS 3.0" that is running the TV. But you can download via their app store an app for the TV that will interface with Android smart phones, if that's what you're asking. I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 (Android), and I can play stuff on the TV just fine.

the only points not reviewed here (and most important) are upscaling from normal TV channels!!!!!! (1080i / 720p/ 480p) and motion behaviour in ultra fast movies like (Fast & the furious for example) i had the 55UH8500 top of the line LCD from LG last year and the motion interpolation was behaving like crazy when i watched Fast and the Furious (streaming from my Laptop to the tv in HD quality) whole cars disappeared for a split second or are no longer even resembled as cars for that split second lol, weird shit.. this was in the opening scene of the movie.. I want to buy the B6 so badly but I will not spend 2500 euros if the motion is compete shit!
@FamilyHomeTheater7 жыл бұрын
When you mean "streaming from my Laptop", do you mean a Blu-Ray, a Blu-Ray 1:1 rip, a torrented version, or streaming off Netflix/Hulu/etc.? Most streams from the internet are not going to handle motion well no matter what TV you have. The bitrate is just not high enough. If it is a torrented version, the same issue applies - motion is always going to suffer with low bitrates. If it was from a Blu-Ray, or a 1:1 rip of a Blu Ray, then it could be a setting in the TV itself. LG's "TrueMotion" (Frame Interpolation) is a prime suspect if the source material is known to be good. Frame Interpolation works well for slow pans, but in really fast motion the algorithm can get confused and put out messy results. In the video I did on motion blur (or lack thereof), you can see how the TV reacts: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJmYp2mIacmqq9U In that video I was playing a game from my laptop rendered at 1080. The game was running at lower graphics setting (due to limitations of my laptop), but you can judge for yourself how the TV handles motion. The short version is there is zero motion blur on the TV.
@N-e.o7 жыл бұрын
yeah exactly i meant "Frame Interpolation" it was like the tv couldnt estimate were the cars were in the next time frame and outputting weird artifact as results...i was streaming from popcorntime i believe (so torrented version) even though it wasnt full hd but the movie overall was super clear most of the time ..
@FamilyHomeTheater7 жыл бұрын
Ok, yes, Frame Interpolation is the culprit. Even on really high-end frame interpolation systems, it can easily get confused. Some people like it, some people don't. With it on, some people describe the effect as a "soap opera effect" where everything looks hyper-realistic. With it off, there is the traditional motion blur we have been dealing with since the beginning of TV. And so until we start getting more HFR - High Frame Rate - source material, we will either have to live with the traditional motion blur, or we will have to live with the artifacts that Frame Interpolation can create. At any rate, the OLED television itself has essentially instant response time, whereas any LCD or LED backlit LCD panel will have a slower response time which can result in ghosting. (I'm talking about pixel off/on response time, not input lag) If you can pick up a 2016 model, I don't think you will be disappointed. If you can afford the premium of the 2017 model, you will get better dark details and higher peak brightness.

the 55B6 dropped in price today bigtime, i can get one for 1,895euro! also i read on avforums that LG will be updating and fixing most of the issues soon, like the motion issues i mentioned, other minor bugs and lowering inputlag even more. fingers crossed! i will be picking up this tv as soon as i can now, 1,895 euro is allot less than 2,500euro and less stressfull lol

PlaystationQUAD-Pro yeah, this Guy hits the spot! show some regular 1080p/i tv channels, Everyday use! my conclusion is a missing detail between dark and White. its either black or its White. detail is missing in darker scenes, lots of shadows. oled is Just not ready yet....gimme some nits!!!!

Bought this OLED TV, gave it back after a week. Blacks are superb but every thing else is sub par. Colors, brightness, motion, cable tv upscaling all not great at all. If you don't watch TV in a dark room don't buy this tv.
@FamilyHomeTheater7 жыл бұрын
Was that just on Cable TV? For Blu Ray, UHD BD, and streaming, the TV looks great. Other TVs now look washed out in comparison. Cable TV is notorious for being way too highly compressed.

Oled is not a new display sony started to do oled tvs many years ago
@FamilyHomeTheater8 жыл бұрын
Yes, Sony did market an 11" OLED TV that cost something in the neighborhood of $10,000. But OLED is new in the sense that we are finally seeing it priced at a level that puts it within reach of the mass market, and not just a handful of early adopters with money to burn. And we are seeing it as a technology that is maturing into a well thought out application of technology. It's not just OLED, but it also has all the smart functions one would expect from a high-end television.

Anyone experiencing motion problems on these Oleds?
@FamilyHomeTheater7 жыл бұрын
Try disabling "True Motion". It's buried in the display settings somewhere. It's a frame interpolation algorithm that smooths out motion, but can get confused in certain situations, resulting in some funky artifacts.

4k HDR players and 4k HDR movies are a joke. 4k hdr player cost $400 and 4k hdr movies cost$25 or $30 that's crazy. keep your blue ray player and movies. you can't even see the differences between the two. blue ray movies on this tv is amazing.
@FamilyHomeTheater8 жыл бұрын
I got it more for the HDR than for 4K. I've only seen The Martian so far in HDR, but I think HDR is where it's at. 4K is secondary, in my opinion.

You should see my "Gaming Burn In" video. After having a static image displayed for 3 hours, no hint of burn-in. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZbRaJqXerdohrM
@andrewcobra20008 жыл бұрын
You won't get burn in from playing video games on it but you will get from windows home screen and desktop background. I have AMOLED display on my Galaxy S7 and clock that is display all the time on the screen moves all the time so doesn't burn in.
@sexydanny21awesome8 жыл бұрын
Yes it is possible to get a burn in on OLED but it is less likely than a Plasma TV. OLED TVS have a different problem that is mostly banding issues however on the 2016 models this happens way less than the 2015 models. But OLED is still best TV tech because they do not get screen bleeding.

@JCTiggs17 жыл бұрын
16 blocks OLED isn't overpriced at all. You get what you pay for, and the 55" LG OLED B6 is only $400 more than the KS8000 where I live. Well worth it. Personally I can't stand the poor viewing angles of LCD panels, along with the ghosting with fast motion while gaming.. and average black levels.

Don't critically judge a televisions picture quality based on what you see in a KZbin video. You're limited by both my camera's capture capability and your monitor's own accuracy. I'm giving you my impressions. If you want to see what it really looks like, you'll just have to find one in an electronics store and see it for yourself.
