LG SP8YA 3.1.2 soundbar overview.

I got the LG DSP8YA soundbar with subwoofer and spent some time in finding the perfect settings when combined with the LG C3 tv as there was little to find on the internet. I tested this on the PS5 in GRID Legends to compare the settings. First I tried the tv sound mode sharing option on, with Dolby Atmos turned on. The AI-sound Pro mode sounded the best with those. But after some time I still didn't find it good enough. I turned tv sound mode sharing off (which automatically turns off Dolby Atmos). Then the sound mode called Bass blast pops up, which seems to sound better (the name suggests it already - it makes more use of the subwoofer). But Cinema mode also sounds really good so you can choose between those two. I also tested the other settings. I put DTV audio-setting on automatic. For screen and audio matching, HDMI (ARC)-device delay is put on 0. Bypass is turned off. The audioformat was difficult, but Bitstream seemed to sound a bit better than PCM, there wasn't much difference. Digital sound output is on automatic and eARC-support is enabled. All other settings are blacked out so can't be changed with these settings. On the PS5 you can also set the output device to soundbar. Someone on Reddit mentioned to put it on AV-receiver so you can customize your channels but I guess that only works if you have additional speakers placed around the room, because if you change the speaker positions setting, no difference can be heard. The audioformat setting on the PS5 is by default on LPCM (while in the settings of the soundbar Bitstream sounded better than normal PCM). But on PS5 you can change it to Dolby Atmos if you like (but LPCM seems to sound as good or even better) and it will turn on Dolby Atmos on your soundbar without the tv sound mode sharing being on. If you put the soundbar on PCM you can't put Atmos on PS5. Hope this info is useful.

Even though this LG SP8YA sound bar is 3.1.2, would it turn into 5.1.2 if I add the rear LG wireless speakers? Or will sound bar only play stereo for surround? Anybody know? Just curious...

I’m going to be pairing this speaker with a Hisense u7g and a Nvidia shield pro. Have you tried to use AirPlay 2? I’m curious if only audio passes through the speakers or if you can mirror the IPhone display via E-ARC.

I have a samsung TV as well, does the LG works fine? I also heard that the bass is a bit muffled and not tight, is that true? I'm thinking of getting the new SPD75A version which is almost identical but 400 watts instead, have you heard of it? Oh, I was looking at the Samsung q800a too, but seems like LG is more feature packed! Thanks!

For SPD75A Negatives compared to SP8YA ; no built in google assistance, chromecast. Google Ass. is helpful for voice search. Total power is olnly 400W. SP8YA has 440W.

Q800a and sp8ya has almost same features. Like said, LG is feature packed. I preferred Sp8ya as it has good design and can easly clean-up even with wet wipes 😊. All other models seems catches the dust especially samsung one.

Hi, I have the same soundbar. I notice yours displays E-arc. I’m using the soundbar with the LG C1 which supports earc. But I notice mine displays simply “arc”. Is there something you have to do to enable the earc? Or is it source dependent? I.e if you stream vs using a bluray player

You might find sound option in TV and choose the earc as auto. Make sure you buy Hdmi2.1 cable for better surround sounds.

Once you connect the soundbar with tv or otherdevises with hdmi 2.1 cable, all the sounds transmitted as earc. If that video comes with 5.1 , doldy, dts etc erac convert it into that quality. Amazon prime , Disney, youtube gives options for 5.1 videos

@ I chose this model over samsung because of the better surround system. Also the design, we can clean the dust. Samsung design easily catch dust.

hi! not sure if you compared this with the LG SPD7Y when buying the soundbar? Would you say that the sound quality of the SP8YA is much better than the SPD7Y? Am looking for a new soundbar and am torn between the two :/

SP8YA has a more neutral sound profile and it also reproduces a more extended low-bass. If your preference for movies or music go for SP8YA. Also, SPD7Y doesn't have wifi support, chromecast, apple air play.
