It worked in 2022 on my LG TV 42LE4900 made in 2010. Having read comments here seems its best to lay the TV flat on a table. Take the stand and back cover off. It is easy. Put the stand back on. I heated the HDMI chip directly with a harir drier for just over a minute. And the HDMI ports. Did not work when I stood it on the stand and powered it up. So I laid it flat again and heated the HDMI chip for 5 min with the hair dryer . Surprised me when I powered it up. All working fine now. Watiing to see how long the fix lasts. Dont't touch components as static may harm them. Make sure power to TV is disconnected before you move the TV and heat the chip.

Came across this video by chance and it fixed my tv within 5 minutes. I can’t believe it was something as simple as a hair dryer after spending a day and a half on Google trying to figure out what was wrong with it. Thank you so much for posting this!

It works for a moment, for some weeks or so. Forget HDMI inputs, use the VGA input (if available on the TV) + 2.5 mm audio and a USB powered converter HDMI to VGA + audio 2.5 mm. A non powered converter gives a poor result. USB connection from the TV can be uses to power the converter.

I have a 2012 lg 3D TV Basically what I did I have an electronic cleaner sprayed it from the outside I didn't even take the cover off, Then with the blower I heated the hdmi ports and you can see the motherboard from the outside cover so i heated all around and tried it and it's working like a champ Thank you very much for the help it worked great I got lucky I didn't have to open the cover.

Thank You. This works!! I have a 48 inch LG about 5 years old and it was working perfectly up until recently. The TV is located in my cold and damp basement rec room that isn’t used that much anymore since my son moved away. Like most homing pigeon kids he returned however the TV would not work on HDMI. I think now that he’s using it again and just getting it back warming up again the problem may go away permanently.. Your right that it doesn’t take much heat. In fact I decided to try it by just heating directly onto the back without even disconnecting anything. I used a 1200W heat gun about 6-8 inches away for no more then 15 seconds and the HDMI ports became available again. Easiest TV Repair Ever. Thanks Again.

DUDE YOU SAVED ME! THIS TECHNIQUE REALLY DOES WORK. THE ONLY THING HE SHOULD HAVE SAID WAS THAT YOU DONT HAVE TO TAKE THE BACK PANEL OFF. YOU CAN BLOW THROUGH THE HOLES THAT ARE IN THE BACK OF THE COVER, ALSO YOU CAN JUST TRY BLOW DRYING THE HDMI PORTS THEMSELVES RATHER THEN THE CHIP AND THAT WORKS SOMETIMES AS WELL.

To the people who don't take the cover off, please rethink as it does not take long to take the screws out. Ultimately you want the heat going only on the hdmi chip, especially if you use a heat gun .Hair dryers are not ideal as they do not get hot enough, tv might come back on but you probably have to do it again sooner rather than later. A friend could not be bothered to remove the back and he heated it up too much and melted the plastic ,sagged right in.I have good success with some liquid flux all over and around the chip, solder melts quicker and repair lasts longer, normally put some foil over the chip with a square cut out of it ,to protect the other components.Especially important of the capacitors , stay clear of these they can explode if heated up too much. Use a heat gun on low, couple of inches from the chip , keep moving the heat gun. When finished 40 seconds or so, don't touch the board at all until it cools down ,you could bump motherboard when solder is fluid and move the chip , reassemble when cool. Should remove the motherboard from the television and put it on flat surface when heating. You do not want to heat up the chip and have it move out of place ,which it can do if motherboard is vertical or not flat or if you bump motherboard.

If the display is not clear or sharp on Samsung or LG TVs or you are randomly losing signal try renaming the 'HDMI' connection to 'PC' instead. Samsung and LG TVs support renaming a connection using the remote control. This unintuitive step fixes display issues on these TVs.

I followed the baking directions. While the board cooled I used a hole saw to cut out area in the back case over the HDMI chip which had very little clearance for ventilation and attached a 20x20x10 mm heat sink to the chip. It seems to be working. I am surprised how warm the heat sink gets running full 1080p. What shitty engineering.

I don't know if I'd call it shitty engineering. Mainly because when you have to heat the chip or put a heatsink on it, that means its just a bad chip. Those types of chips are what are called a flip chip design, and as they wear out who can heat them or mess with their temperature and they'll work again. Look them up if you want to understand this more.
