Now, I can buy a new LG V40 for 345€ while the Note 9 is 600€. Okay, the Note's battery is bigger, but it has my hated curved screen and that screen has green light issues after a year use. LG V40 is also a king of the headphone output. Because of the curved screen and the significantly lower price, I would choose the LG V40. From Samsung products, I would prefer a flat screen with big battery and good audio quality of A70, but preferably for less than 300€. If you can, it's worth to wait for a while because the prices will drop for Samsung devices.

@HARI SANKAR.D my usage is less. I get it easily over a day. I have an S8 plus as well. Compared to it, V40 takes better shots during day. Night photos are bit dull with flash but it preserves great detail, much better than G7 thinQ. You may use any good editors to make them more pleasing. Overall a great device to use. Hope this helps

It's brand name recognition. Samsung is simply more well-known and more trusted. I have an LG phone, and LG does make great products, but Samsung is still king in the Android market.

Samsung became #1 just because it didnt have a competitor since Nokia refused entry into Android. Speaking abt current Situation Most chinese mobiles including Oneplus are way popular among general public for 2 facts #extensive offline and online marketing #cheap price LG's Top management fails miserably in this strategy marketing. They manufacture best devices however no one knows it. True samsung is trusted however samsung does not hold the #1 market share... If u open any ecommerce website, all you see is entry-level to flagship mobile of Samsung and a bunch of chinese mobiles Ads ...not even a single LG unless you search for it!!! LG does not give demo mobile to reviewers, no ads in tv or anywhere. Its not the device which has to build that trust here, LG's poor marketing strategy is directly affecting its sales as simple as that.

Upgraded my V20 to the V40. After ~ 5 days with the V40 (pre-ordered) I recommend it without reservation. Somewhat surprised by the critical Android reviews regarding V40. Seriously if you don't need/want a stylus pen the V40 is the phone for you. Critics pound their chests over the Pixel XL (2 and 3) but remember Pixel screens have been sourced from Samsung and LG in the past so?...Cheers!

@@Dade_Soulja Amen! After the Oreo update V20 is all good. The upgrade to the V40 was a total impulse purchase. However now having used both (V20/V40) I really think you're safe holding onto your V20 until LG gives us a hybrid with removable battery, water resistance, OLED AND Quad DAC

In my experience Google (Pixel) fans often have an iPhone mentality of all good (Pixel) v. all bad (everything else). Just pointing out that Google (Pixel) is using LG, Samsung Hardware just like LG and Samsung use Google Software. Maybe the companies should mate all their unique features into ONE definitive Android flagship?! (I know ain't gonna happen) :)

@@Michiganders I am a major HTC fan mostly because I travel alot and there isn't many phones out there that can beat their signal. HTC makes Google's phones. So the Google Pixel's are made by HTC. I have an HTC U11 right now that is exactly the Google pixel 2 but prettier and has HTC sense. If you check out the HTC U12 it is exactly like the Google pixel 3. I have not tried one of the Google phones to see if HTC has done as well with their signal. But everything about these 4 phones are exactly the same except the outer case!

Yes, but it was killing me, because the bass overpowers the vocals and generally everything else. It took me more than a month to try to fine tune the audio settings and now it's okay, less because of my fine tuning and more because of my ears getting used to this. Generally speaking, LG V40 renders so many details in audio that I felt perplexed, because it's not like listening to a song but it's like listening to every instrument/singer of the song. I had to learn how to concentrate on the vocals while acknowledging all the other instruments. It's good, but I advise to everyone to look into the settings because you personally can fine tune it much better than the factory settings give you.

LG V40 is better if you have expensive headphones or even expensive speakers because the quad dac does a lot more than dolby atmos. But sound quality is still decent with dolby atmos just not as good.

I have both, the note 9 is much heavier. The V40 has a better picture quality when watching movies and youtube videos. While the Note 9 and the LG V40 have 6 gigs of RAM. The exact same processors. While playing asphalt 8, the V40 wins hands down LG’s expansive 6.4-inch quad-HD display is a winner, with a higher resolution 3120 x 1440 OLED panel than the Note 9’s similarly sized 2960 x 1440 Super AMOLED screen. You can add another 512GB SD card to the Note 9 you can add up to 2TB SD Card to the V40. I found that the fingerprint reader works better if you save your finger 3 times for each. Then they are both instant. I love the design of Samsung, but they haven't changed in years now. The Note 9 and the S9 plus are identical, only difference is the S9+ doesn't have a pen. Finally, the LG V40 didn't kill or injure anyone. Samsung can't say the same. But you do get much more for what you spend buying the V40, it has more pixels per inch, same RAM and same processor. I would definitely suggest buying the LG V40 thinq. Plus the LG has a much better camera set-up. Especially for your recording your kids baseball, soccer, Hockey and football games. You can take a video on the LG and take stills from a video. Overall I give the LG V40 a 9.9 while Samsung Note 9 gets an 8. There's too many similarities with other Galaxy series phone's. You will save about $400.00 on the LG but you will feel like you like you paid more for the LG than the Samsung. I've had both for about a month. I bought the LG as a backup and because I wanted to try the 5 cameras, needless to say I don't even use the note 9. These are my personal opinions and I've had almost every smartphone out, except Crapple. I have had a friend offer to trade me his Apple XR for my LG. That would never happen as I hate Apple. Feb. 2019, I got 2 LG phones for thre price of 1 at the Tmobile store (BOGO sale). So for $850, I got LG V40 & LG7 (priced $650). Financed over 3 years at 0% interest, it was a good deal. I didn't even know the V40 was such a badass phone. It served me well for 4 years until I dropped it 1 too many times with the phone caae off. It was my road dog during 4+ years of full time Lyft/Uber driving. I still have the LG G7 in 2023 and it's still got alot of life left. LG low key made some really quality phones although not perfect. But they kept pushing forward with new technologies & experimental features. Glad I still have my BOGO phone from 2019. A true testament to the quality of their products.

My issue with your speed test and multitasking one is extremely flawed. Your checking the app loading time: thus the phone memory speed. Not the snapdragon performance. Run a game and see after 5min if the framerate/smoothness drops or how hot it becomes. Those will show us wether the chip tends to overheat or not. And the performance of the snapdragon. For multitasking. Nobody loads many apps like that and constantly switch. I do understans its for testing purpose. But by doing that yoyr checking which phone has better RAM management and this is out of your control. One phone will prioritize an app for an other one. The website and youtube launching test has issues with the content loaded and your internet (servers and other variable). The didnt load the same content in some cases. With my LG g3/G4/note 3/oneplus 2/lg v30 on a 1gbps internet high end router i saw no issue in loading speed. But content being sometimes being different affecting it by small milli-seconds. So a close intranet test would make all variable constant for the sake of testing. For the phot, the lg v40 was not properly aimed at the object unlike the samsung. I love both phones. Lg is an underdog that deserve some love.

Not really, its different usage scenarios. Some people will game on it then it gets hot sure. But others will just go through social media. The difference is pretty negligible but it shows how optimized the software is imo. Yes his internet depends on how the apps load of course, but you forget thats something you need to know how your phone handles before you buy it. If its wifi chip sucks or doesnt handle wifi well ect. It needs to be able to pull the information it needs through your internet. I think you overlooked that. Not everyone has 1gbps internet lol

Honestly, I haven't seen a phone whose wifi chip phone suck. I've seen LTE and GSM phone that performed poorly when comparing the same carrier. My point is that, if you open a webpage and both content are different (eg. one is a JPEG and another is GIF, what they need to download and load isn't equivalent, thus breaking your test as your not comparing apples to apples. I used my 1gbps internet as a reference that there should not be a bottleneck in speed but in phone performance. I had for many years ADLS+2 a 800kbps down and 100kbps up) and if your using a slower internet, and your bottle-necking it by prioritizing one connection for another, then again, this is not fair as one has to wait for the other to be done (did he Enable QoS?). I'm purely stating what are real methodology should be, all variables need to be known or accounted for. He has too many random and uncontrollable variables. So a lot of his speed test cannot be judge as accurate nor fair. In no case I'm here to hate the video, I find it entertaining but not accurate. My other point on the phone getting hot, is the SOC will thermal throttle when running a game for 5 or 15min compared to another phone. In this case, is the note 9 or V40 gonna lose in performances while gaming (let's say PUGB and Fortnite)? If you use for FB, instagram, Twitter or other, my note 3 hasn't let me down on that. Load the app as quickly as the V30. This doesn't do justice to the phone snapdragon 845. How come an 801 perform as well as 835? Just for launching apps. Not running them in full, as he just stays in the default menu. Do you swap that many apps like him constantly within 2min? I might do that for 2 apps, like Waze and spotify. But not that many constantly. It's still fun to see, but very inaccurate as a testing method. I choose to buy the LG V30+ as I wanted all the camera features it had and the headphone quaddac. And I am looking forward to see how LG V40 will sell.

Watching this video made me realise just how far LG has come in the industry...frankly,i clicked on this video,as a Samsung kind of guy, thinking the V40 was at best,only gonna put up a good fight,but now...its astounding that rather, the note 9 was more or less the one chasing from behind in many instances... I wanted the Note 9. Looks amazing. Has great features and the s pen. Currently I have the LG V30+. The one thing stopping me from buying the Note 9 is the audio recording in videos and audio quality recording is very important to me. Samsung still can't get it right and it stops me from buying their phones. The Note 9 still cant handle the bass it records at concerts. It crackles or fades out the bass. I have the V30+ and it handles the loud bass at concerts that it records perfectly. V40 will also handle bass. If Samsung get this right, I will purchase their phones. It is the only thing stopping me.

It's back and forth because the display is not going to register your finger input exactly the same. They open most apps with the same speed. I would love to give the V40 a chance over the Note 9, but I'm anti notch.

V40 is louder.i love note 9,I got 1.but lgv40 has same size screen and looks smaller with more fluid experience.but the note has that spen.i do miss that wide angle cam though.

the v 40 has an f m tuner which is important in times on natural disasters as opposed to the note 9 so i give the v40 the win

I always try different phones, but I always end up with LG- they just can't be beat for overall performance and price- especially refurbished. So far I had 2 old ass LG flip phones, G3, G-Flex-2, V20, G7 and now I'm replacing it with a V-40. Never had a boot-loop issue, and my current G7 has a cracked glass panel, camera, water damage and it still works great aside from damaged camera lenses, but they still take pictures!

I ended up getting the v40. Im happy with it. Im used to the samsung android os so its taken me a little to adapt. V40 OS and features are a little crude compared to a samsung. Overall the v40 is cheaper and has great hardware.

Help me understand why LG ruined Android for you? Having owned both iOS and Android flagships I can easily state the LG V20 is one of the most solid phone to date. So much so I kept my V20 even after buying the V40. What was your V20 experience?

Kevin frankly it was terrible. It was really good in the beginning but after about 7 months or so it began to bog down, restart every couple days randomly. It was a gorgeous phone, very robust beautiful display, it became unusable after a few months :/

@@ordinarygamer1353 that makes sense. I know that the V20 had two iterations (release to market batches) unbeknownst to consumers. The first V20 iteration (release) was prone to boot loops, screen retention / burn, vertical banding etc. However shortly before the V30 was released LG apparently corrected those flaws on the last release to market of the V20. Did you happen to buy your lemon V20 early, shortly after released?

I'm coming off my (what feels like 10 years) 2 year contract with an LG V20, and I got it right when the Galaxy Note was being recalled that year. I got this because it was basically the biggest baddest phone left since they took the note away days before I went into Verizon and recalled it for the battery explosion debacle. Now I'm finally ready to upgrade, I had a note 4 before this V20, and think I want to go back to note- the o my thing I noticed I don't like about it is how oddly skinny it is. It's so thin and long and akward. Like why couldn't it still be wide. Is the V40 wider than the note? I haven't held the V40 yet. I can't decide 😭

I also had the 2 year contract LG V20 and was faced with same decision. I decided on the V40 ultimately but have held both (Note 9 and V40). To be honest the note 9 feels wider likely due to housing the stylus pen but NEITHER feel as wide as the V20. This takes getting use to when you upgrade. Any V20 owner will tell you the newer flagship phablets just feel lighter and thinner. This is not a bad thing but when you are accustomed to the V20 as your daily driver any upgrade is going to feel “smaller”. You really can't go wrong either way (V40 v. Note 9). If you need the stylus pen decision is made for you (Note 9). I traded my V20 to the V40. After ~ 5 days with the V40 (pre-ordered) I recommend it without reservation. On a side note my wife recently upgraded to iPhone XS Max and that phone actually feels closest to the weight and width of the V20 but would have to switch Android to iOs which I'm not doing ;)

I have the note 8 and like Samsung, but I think the LG won. Some people may be bias and I think this guy was recording with a Samsung s9 or something (should have used apple to be fair hahaha). Guess it depends what you are looking for in a phone.

I often don't understand some: how to put an audio test for comparison in addition and tap your fingers next to the phones in question. It's a test of the sound of your fingers now it must be said. Otherwise it impacts our perception of the bass, us the spectators anyway.

Don't forget 20 percent larger battery, better screen (Samsung always makes best screens in business), more accessories, better long term support, better resale value, better trade in value. The Note wins hands down on all of these. The S pen is icing and considering resale, $100 more to buy upfront is a no brainier. The V40 doesnt offer a 512 and 8gig ram variant of their phone so it can't compare. As a original LG supporter, G3, V10 I wouldn't recommend LG to anyone.

@@MrCTruck Itemize please with data. Resale values winner Samsung, battery capacity- Samsung, screen- Samsung. Please provide data that proves me wrong. Updates- both suck but Samsung still wins. This isn't an opinion but proven facts based on market. The only advantage LG has is sound with the DAC and maybe their chamber system when placed on a hard surface but in hand I'd take dual speakers over a bottom firing any day. Again the market is the decider here and the fact that LGs phone division is bleeding tells me all I need to know about market and long term perception.

Both amazing devices pretty much tying everywhere. Lg has a wide angle, but i'd rather have an s-pen and no notch. Also note 9 seems to go for amazing deals like 500-600 euros.
