Amazing video! Like all you do! You're a speaker reviewer like no other. Actual proof of performance is hands down the only way I can believe something is true in the speaker industry. I actually bought the PL7 and tried it in the shop. I though there was a showcase model, but no. It sounds awful. After 50cm, the bass vanishes completely. With or without Sound Boost mode at 50%, 75% or max volume. The bass is almost nonexistent in any modes actually. The JBL Flip 5 can cover an entire room. And the Charge 5 is an Absolute banger! But for the money, I'd definitely go with the XB33. So, don't get me wrong, the PL7 would surely be the perfect speaker for some, but having tested TWO of them, one of which I BOUGHT AND RETURNED in 5 minutes ( just to see if it's any different, to my surprise, no ) and having experienced the same issues, I cut this speaker from my list permanently.

Yeah all have some issue or other. I was surprised i preferred the lg for long listen. They should have let that go louder though i suspect distortion must be a big issue given how bass cut, er, i mean sound boost is tuned.

Great video! I’m currently looking for a home speaker of this size. I’m a sound engineer so I go for a more true/flat quality sound across the frequency spectrum. Don’t care too much for bass or boomy boosts although fun for moments at a time. I see you have chosen the LG flat mode for this video. Question: Is this your top pick in this size category among all the speakers you have had the opportunity to demo? I see that you also really like the Soundcore Motion Plus. I will only be using one as I don’t have the budget for a stereo pair. Nor do I have the budget to buy them all which is why I appreciate your time and consideration. Thank you! I gave you a L&S.

Hi, I know I'm 2 years late but I need your advice. I'm looking to buy a new speaker since my JBL flip 4 died on me. I can't really decide between the charge 4 and the PL7. It's gonna be used mostly indoor with few occasions outside for a couple of hours(BBQ or smth like that) . The main requirement for a speaker to me is to fill the room (usually about 14m squared ) It's not gonna be used at max volume bcs of neighbours so I need it to be clear and spacious at about 50% volume. I like the JBL as a brand since I have a few products from them (speaker & headphones) but LG it's pretty appealing to me with the design and finish (you can't go wrong with led lights 😅). Now I live in Romania and prices here are messed up, the PL7 is about 98$ and the charge 4 it's around 140$. Is it worth the 40$ difference to go with a brand that I know and trust or should I try something new that seems appealing. Please let me know if you read this❤️

Good comparison as always m8! Personally I've owned both Charge 3 and 4 and still own Motion+ - doing an A to B comparison Motion+ wiped the floor with both of them on most if not all songs. This here however really made me want to hear XB33 in person, to see if its too shouty for my taste with all them mids. One question tho - when Sony starts reducing volume, does it eventualy plateau on certain loudnes, or does it keep going till it reaches 0% volume?

Let me tell you, I had pl5 it was loud asf with sound boost on, but was lacking bass so I returned it, got myself Sony, it's a beaut, but it's not ass loud as pl5, but bassy asf, and app is excellent unlike lg's where you can't do anything, so I reckon pl7 might be louder than Sony but packing less bass

Nice review! I'm planning to modify the battery by changing it with higher capacity 18650 lithium Battery, maybe 7000Mah would be enough to keep it playing for longer period on high volumes. Also Taupe color ain't available in EU? Edit: Is the XB-33 that bad? I kinda see everyone saying its bad. LOL I'm using poweramp music player to adjust the EQ. It's also so much cheaper than the charge 4, I got it for 125 Euro

Excellent review as always! no matter how good the PL7 is, with the plastic body and the exposed bass radiators (it's too fragile) I could imagine when the grandkids come over it wouldn't last a minute! 😆 the JBL charge 4 is "Mono" so it's a no from me. I'm not a Sony fan! I have a JBL Charge 3 and a UE Wonderboom for years with no issues...

From what I've seen in Oluv's video, it sounds like a piece of crap(the pl7). Distorting already at half volume, very muddy. I tested it in my local shop, and while it didn't distort at half volume, the sound was horrible, with the upper bass, the huge Treble peak that made the sound really muddy. Even compared to my anker soundcore motion plus, which doesn't sound really great. Also, the bass is just some upper bass knocking with some deep bass rest in there. Anyways. For this price, just take the anker soundcore motion boom and be happy with a wayy better sound, still with some artefacts at low levels,but above 35% really powerful. I am currently 2 or 3 days away from my minirig 2.2 setup and I am very excited,but at the same time a bit sad, because most of the speakers, compared to the minirigs, will sound simply crappy. Even the jbl extremely priced 3 which on some tracks is half as loud as the 2.1 minirig setup with wayy less bass and a much sharper sound. Anyways, you are one of my favourite reviewers. You and Oluv make the soul of speaker reviews. ❤️💎

i dont think it sounds total crap but certainly you can do better and if pure sound is your thing you wont like it. minirig can sound great but hopefully yours wont be too flaky. for me the biggest issues are the stereo lock not working and trying to push the subwoofer to max in app doesnt work, it keeps resetting itself.

@@alanrossreviews I think you're dealing with either a bug in the app, or a faulty subwoofer. I've seen that behaviour before with the sub 3. Minirig would repair it, but for me that wouldn't be the best ideea because I live in Romania, and the transport taxes would be as much as a new sub, so it wouldn't be an option. And then I would have a extra sub which I can repair myself. :)

Was gonna get the charge 4 but everyone's saying motion+ is better but it has lower battery, no powerbank functionality and weaker bass performance (from the reviews I've read and watched) as I'd like that deep loud resonant bass that's also present at lower volumes. JBL is selling for £99 and pl7 is also £99 so I think has more value for money. Was considering pl7 as the sound signature is bass focussed and it has features but reviews have mentioned that battery is subpar and it's heavy and no eq

yes there remains no perfect answer. if you play at louder volumes the m+ and motion boom have you covered for stonking deep bass or nice open and detailed sound. m+ can dig some bass if you go custom setting but motion boom bass is different level. the boom has deeper bass than the xb43 and at 40hz beats out the xtreme 3 so charge 4 is long gone.

@@alanrossreviews no, I had pl5 but returned it, I did like everything about it except it was lacking bass and app was rubbish, I was thinking to go for pl7 but then sony came on sale on Amazon for £84 so I went for it. And im glad I did :)
