Could a lens like this ever be a refreshable display? Monday, June 5, 2023 CE, 16:48 EDT

Perhaps a fluid with microscopic metal particles suspended in it, and manipulated several times per second by an electro-magnetic field

@@leeskinner9627 What you describe is basically sounds like e-ink. Though you may be more interested in a similar but significantly different idea that is "Interferometric modulator displays", where each pixel is a "microelectromechanical system" (MEMS). While eink only does basic absorbsion/reflection of light, with IMODs the wavelength of light is *changed* based on how "deep or shallow" the reflecting element is. Similar to how the structures found on many insects don't actually reflect their own color, but change the incoming light into something else. This results in those brilliant metallic displays you see on butterflies and moths. There was research done on making a full display, being branded "Mirasol" and worked on by Iridigm and later Qualcomm, with plans to produce an e-reader screen that not only could work in full sun like e-ink, but had color and a refresh rate fast enough for relatively smooth video, while still being able to maintain an image without further power. Unfortunately the efforts to produce these screens eventually fell through and the technology became vaporware after limited releases of a few products in asian markets. I believe that it was likely due to extremely high defect rates that they couldn't seem to overcome.

Can't wait until somebody turns this into a product, I'd love to have that transparent head with the brain caustics in my room

Would be really interesting to see some motion graphics shot this way. If this existed in the 80s or the 70s it would've surely been used quite a lot.

Dont know if you guys gives a shit but if you're stoned like me atm then you can stream pretty much all of the new movies on instaflixxer. I've been binge watching with my brother for the last months :)

@Harper Marley definitely, have been watching on instaflixxer for years myself :D

Would it be possible to make it so it produces different images at different focal planes, so you can play an animation by moving the object closer and further from the wall or by moving the lightsource closer and further from the object?

If these lenses can do that, then I would like to know if their pictures can have continuous motion instead of just a finite framerate Monday, June 5, 2023 CE, 16:57 EDT

is there some more or less functional software available to create these at home?

For the Einstein one, wouldn't it have been better to change the distribution so that the signature was as bright as the brightest areas in the photo?

Can I burn ants with this?
@john_hunter_7 жыл бұрын
Pedro they should make one that focuses all the light into the shape of an ant for optimal burning.

Better: an ant maze, where the "walls" are made out of light, and if they touch them they will combust
