My only gripe with the iMac G4 has to do with the footprint it takes on the desk. If you like your monitor tall, no problem. I like my monitor to be close to the keyboard. So by the time I pull it down that far, the iMac G4 takes as much room on a desk as an old-fashioned CRT.

Always gotta be that one technically ignorant person when someone mentions Vista..
@AceStrife7 жыл бұрын
The Uncanny One Vista had a bad rap on release because it was forced out before drivers were ready.. just like Windows 10, but look at all the people actually using 10 and approving of it. Well, it was also the first real upgrade in Windows for many years, so the hardware requirements got bumped up, which rendered people's old shitty PCs unable to run it well. This was made even worse by system manufacturers who released systems with low RAM, leading to an incredibly slow system (stock Vista needs like 1GB just for the OS to run properly, I've seen Vista systems with 512MB; it was a nightmare). In the end, it suffered a sad fate due to people's ignorance and Microsoft jumped ship and released Windows 7; which was Vista SP3. The only real difference is that they changed the taskbar and made the UI generally worse for power users (and removed all classic features dating back to 95).. which lead to Classic Shell and 7+ Taskbar Tweaker coming out. Other than that, it is seriously just Vista with a slightly different UI skin; and it was praised by those ignorant people who condemned Vista. And now here we are today where people are still bashing Vista despite 8 and 10 being objectively worse OS's for power users or older people who have used XP/Vista/7 for many years and can't learn an entirely new UI.

Serenity Vista doesn't support some programs because, huh, let's see.. it's deprecated and companies ceased supporting it years ago. Do you even think about what you say? The fact that you think it can also only use 2GB RAM shows just how little you know about PCs.

I've been looking for something like that for years for use as dyno tuning laptop. And I know others in the industry would snap them up if they were say 2 screen and more industrial build quality but even as they are now they would be a great help. We all have to use 2 laptops just for screen space for running the dyno software and the tuning software simultaneously with multiple real time graphs and tables open at once in full view. If you' say why not a normal PC? bit hard to have a desktop PC in your car with keyboard and mouse and 2 monitors while driving the car on the dyno at the same time lol. Laptops are a feasible way as you can just put it on the seat. 2 laptops are doable by putting the back rest down to make a sort of table to sit them on. I suppose making some rig to hold a small desktop monitor and extending a laptop VGA to it would work but....
@Kori-ko7 жыл бұрын
You can share the same keyboard/mouse between multiple computers with an application like Synergy. It doesn't replace having only one device with multiple screens but it is an option.
@filanfyretracker7 жыл бұрын
would not help with road tests but since on a dyno a car does not go anywhere, I am surprised nobody has a rig that would let you swing two LCDs in front of the windshield... combine with wireless mouse and keyboard. only way to do this afaik would be some custom fabricated swing arm with a pair of VESA mounts attached.
@3800S17 жыл бұрын
Kinda of defeats the purpose as nearly all new dynos have and often come with wireless option. besides having the monitors outside of the car would make it too hard to see details due to the distance, the tables cells are 1/10th the size of your typical excel cells, just so you can see the complete table which is essential. And its not just one table, you typically work with 4-6 tables on one PC alone (not to mention the other 20-30 odd available to adjust) , the other operating the dyno has a heaps of graphs and controls. The ultimate solution is a multiple screen laptop. if only 2 screens would be suffice, 3 like the razor would be be a bonus. One screen the dyno control software, the other screen the tuning software window and the last screen a mosaic of all the used tables and histograms from the tuning software. I wonder what the price of this razor laptop is?

The iMac G4 was a technical nightmare! First of all, when you were upgrading the RAM, after removing the bottom plate with a philips screwdriver, it was a 144 pin SODIMM that you installed there. However, on the inside of the iMac on the top side of the logic board you put a 184 pin standard DIMM. Also, that system was not designed for everyday users to take apart. They put a seal on the heat pipe that went from the logic board off the CPU and up the side of the inside of the case that fed close to the top. When you would use a T-15 Torx to take the bottom screws out to take the case off, it was really hard to open the case and break that seal. Then everything was crammed inside the thing soooooo tightly that there is no way the thing could move a lot of air. Putting it back together, you had to clean the heat pipes completely and replace the heatsink compound every time you opened the case. Since you mentioned the G4 Cube, it too was a complete piece of junk. You could overheat the thing with a piece of paper covering the top hole of the unit. Plus, they advertised with AGP Graphics, but no AGP Graphics slot on the logic board. Oh, and don't forget the eMac, the educational version of the iMac that had paper thin wires attached to the button that was built into the case that would attach to the logic board and would break if you weren't paying attention to unplug it first. Just my two cents worth!

I've had the same PC for about 12 years now. I've since upgraded the graphics card and RAM and exchanged the HDD for an SSD. Runs very well for what I use it: KZbin, internet browsing, and word processing. It was decently high end at the time, so that helped it for a few years at least.

Another good one that I owned (and still have) was the round oversized hockey puck shaped SONY VAIO VGX-TP20E/B. It was a home theater PC for watching TV and movies with DVR capabilities using Windows Home Edition. The ATI cable units using cablecards were bulky and buggy, thus killing off this strange niche market to run a computer on your TV. Even Microsoft later dropped the TV viewing function of Windows in later versions.

I remember being in 3rd grade when the mellenium took over. It was a huge push for everyone to embrace technology into their every day lives. Nowadays we live in a world where computers fit right in our pockets. It's truly monumental for me to see this because I still grew up in a time where cellphones were a luxury item for the rich.

I also liked the idea of the OQO Series 2 and three, really because of it's size, and what it could have been used for in school's, perhaps to take notes

Old post is old, but in case you still would like to own one: I have got one I'm willing to part with. It was fun to play with, but I don't use it anymore. The battery recently died unfortunately. But the OQO Model 02 still works well. Currently it runs Debian Linux, but I still have an image of the original Windows installation and I think I also have a CD. Comes with a belt carry pouch, the charger and a extension dongle (Ethernet, VGA port, ..).

a laptop with a screen on each side is kind of a really good idea. You trade extra weight for extra view, really helpful with music or video softwares that uses multiple windows

I worked at a Compusa in the early 2000s, and one computer we carried at one point, I kind of wish I would have gotten. I don't remember the brand, but it was made for LAN parties. it was about the size of a game cube, and had a handle on the front. I kept waffling between getting it or building my own gaming machine, which the one I built probably was better in power, but it was monsterly huge. The little LAN Party one would have come in handy though since my friends and I did LAN Parties.

It's so funny to see that Lenovo Thinkpad on this list. My sibling had one and loved it. They called it Goliath and used it essentially as a portable all-in-one desktop. Great if you needed something powerful but also you moved a lot. My sibling wrote Goliath a little send-off post on Facebook when it was time to move on. I guess even the strangest computers can have fans. :>

Lazy Game Reviews It was in my dads basement, I might visit him and see if he still has it. It was blue like in the thumbnail. It has some dents, And is missing Ram and a possessor (I think). From the late 90's to around 2008-9 my dad had a job where companies would send him new tech products to write reviews.on. Around 30% of the time the companies NEVER asked for the product back and we got to keep it. So he has has ALOT of weird tech laying around.

+O v e r T i m e Seeing the fact that it's so different from normal and that it sold so little, I'd guess that you can get a pretty damn good price for it. Especially if you can put in new RAM and a processor and make it functional again.

I know it doesn't really count since it's not a commercially produced unit, but I remember in the mid 2000s buying a PC magazine where they had a monthly feature of PCs put in weird cases, including one PC that was put inside a model of the Millennium Falcon, and another dude who put a PC on top of a go-kart chassis lol.

This is such a great video. There are so many shitty channels out there that put out only this kind of content, but feel the need to turn it into a numbered list with awful transitions and poor voice editing, and even poorer voice acting. Often including borders that take up the screen for no added value topped off with little relevant information and annoying attempts at humor. You nailed it. I just came out of a few list videos for things such as "25 cancelled gameboy advance games" and "13 worst pcs of the early 2000s" and they had so many more views, but were just awful. I love your content, I've been a long time fan. I feel like you deserve more recognition. Thank you for putting out some of the best content on youtube.

The daycare I worked for had one of these. It broke the day after I was hired and I fixed it in an hour and a half. Required a trip to Microcenter, a replacement hard disk, (metal discoloration, possibly from the overworked drive motor) and 15 minutes to install Windows 7 which worked great. The daycare installed the needed programs. Got a pay raise for it!
