The Sims 4 is so intensely centered around their idea on fun, carefree young adult life. Which to some, this type of game play is what makes the Sims an enjoyable experience but what EA has managed to do is snub an entire group and their play type which was the formation and growth of a family. Sims 3 had Generations, and previous iterations of the game included various packs which catered to the play type but throughout the series, this family and growth idea has been present from release all except the Sims 4. Its sad but like with anything you have to roll with the punches.

Personally I did enjoy this rich world as a young adult in Sims 4 and as they grow from there. But after about a week I just put the game down because there wasn't this open ended replayable experience or this very interesting and inclusive generational gameplay. The Sims 3 was a very inclusive experience and I had one family that I had played for almost 4 generations, this family made me keep coming back to the game. Which is devastatingly missing in Sims 4.

What 'most of the things' did we get back? We only got like three things. There's an entire list of things here ts4news.com/post/94541924952/82-features-missing-from-the-sims-4 that were in previous base games that weren't in Sims 4 and out of all of them maybe ten at the most are scribbled out. And out of all of those two were objects you had to pay in some way to get (the hot tub and illnesses). At this point whatever they haven't added yet, is either coming in some pack or not at all (RIP CASt). Things like toddlers, colour wheels and cars will probably come in some expansion pack. And this would've been fine if it was Sims 2 or 3 but this is the fourth game and we really expected more out of it. Like for example bare essentials like toddlers and babies that are considered human, not objects. We expected them to come in the base game.

Dishwashers were patched in but hot tubs and illnesses were both included in some pack (illnesses get to work and hot tubs patio stuff) and that list is not entirely outdated. It needs an update sure but a lot of it is still true to this day. My argument wasn't that they haven't patched anything in, it was that they've already started charging for things that were in the Sims 2 and 3 in the base game and that in the future they will probably add at the very least toddlers in some expansion pack to pad something out and fill it up instead of some patch or something. So unless you've come from the future where by some miracle toddlers were patched in for free there's nothing more to say.

At least in the sims 3 spooky day was an actual holiday in the fall where you could go trick or treating and visit Halloween Venues & events in town. This is why I love "Seasons" now I can celebrate Christmas and Halloween in-game. Before it felt weird to have a Christmas tree or pumpkin carving outside the seasons IRL. I would prop up a Christmas tree when I was playing around Christmas time IRL, now I can put it every 4 weeks when Christmas comes around in-game. Same thing with spooky stuff...

It shows just how mentally weird the development team is that they only have 4 costumes for children, when Halloween is a children's festival. It is the children that are supposed to be having costume parties, getting spooked, playing games, doing tricks, eating treats, not the adults. In Sims 3 the children even went door to door trick or treating, but I guess to implement that, Sims 4 would just install a loading screen with the words "Trick or Treating" on it (probably with a picture of ADULTS doing it).

I think parties should act like clubs. Instead of doing set amount of things, you should be able to do anything within the confines of the theme and earn points. The more points the more success your party is. Get max points and it's the best party and such. Dates could work this way too. Possibly jobs as well.

***** well, in sims 3 you could actually program your own advanced stuff in c#, I think even do custom animations and gameplay mechanics... But maybe they took that out in sims 4 to sell more stuff packs :-) Man there were some cool mods back in the day.. I just got a gold medal with almost no effort and it was fun. The new super llama costume you get for getting a gold medal on it is awesome as well

I caught my eye on a DLC bundle for £22 which included Outdoor retreat (I love the look of this pack), cool kitchen stuff (looks like a typical EA move to get more money by selling stuff that could be included in a free update) and spooky stuff pack (looks decent. The thing with stuff packs for me is that they always have some interactive items and not just normal furniture (like the pumpkin carving table here) and I'm a bit of a hoarder for every possible interactive addition to the game, every new recipe and so on, so even if I don't need anything else I kind of want it for those couple of things.. And I think that's how EA thinks of it too, they add something interactive to everything to make players feel like they need it to expand the gameplay possibilities while filling it with 99% unnecessary things. PLEASE I am hoping that one day you could actually choose which parts of the SPs you want to install to the game so the piles of things you don't really need don't end up slowing it down..

Now that seasons is out, I'm considering this pack for it. When it was 24/7 clear skies and no change from day to day, it didn't make sense to get this pack. They should've combined the 2. I think it would've been cool for the season pack to include the Halloween stuff (ahem, SPOOKY stuff) along with anything else for the other seasons. Like winter holiday stuff, new years stuff, springtime stuff and stuff you'd likely find fun in the summer. I know there's little packs for almost everything but they should have taken the time to get it right, put them altogether then sell it. Its like they're slowly finally building the game we all originally wanted, 100s of dollars and a fair few years later...
