I find that older documentaries of any genre way better because they lack background music, audio is clear, thoroughly detailed, and most importantly no scenes being cut off or added.

Maybe Boeing’s finest achievement, the 400 is one of the safest if not safest airliner every built. For the gazillion miles it’s flown for 30 years it’s record is incredible. It certainly was a very comfortable aircraft, I never felt closed in even when sitting in the middle section. Excellent video

I thoroughly enjoyed this video! I learned to fly back in Spain in 1989 and never tire of it and never tire of watching great planes and crews take to the skies. The 747 is one of my favorites, for sure! I also love the A380. Both are pictures of elegance and yet the 747 is still queen of the skies in my eyes! Thanks for sharing this rare gem!!

Airplanes are so cool & beautiful! On land, they lumber along, but once they climb heavenward, they become graceful & free. The flight crew was so impressive. Their care & skill was admirable. Thank you for sharing, & thank you Wright Brothers!

This takes me back to 1982 I think when I flew Cathay Pacific into Kai Tak. We could practically wave to the residents of the apartment blocks below!! My next flight into HK in 2018 took me into the newly constructed airport which was a lot more approachable than the old Kai Tak. Fascinating film!

as a retired aircraft mech no plane even comes close to the 747 . it was built at the perfect time and just got better. i always loved working on any plane ( even puddle jumpers like the 737 ) but always smile when a 747 came in for repair. i look forward in my next life to working on the jetson version of the 747.

@ATCkeepsUsafe For a layman aviation enthusiast (like myself), I hate the current trend to smaller airplanes. In any large airport (especially in the US), the site of twin-engine, boring, antiseptic-looking planes stretches on and on. So happy that I'm old enough to have flown in some of the classic airliners of the past 30 years, like the DC-10, the L-1011, the A340-500 and even the fuel-guzzling Boeing 727.

As a former flight attendant with Lufthansa, now enjoying my early retirement, I had the pleasure to experience countless flights to Kai Tak, also under the command of Cpt. Rogowski. From 1989 up to the late 90´s the 747-400 was state of the art and working aboard was always a pleasure. Crew-rotations to HKG sometimes took up to week, depending on if the schedule included flights from HKG on to Osaka, Japan. This meant extra rest time in Hong Kong, sometimes up to 3 days, also depending on the flight schedule. I miss those good old days of flying and look back with sentimentality. Today, flying has become a rather `over-massed´ product, but still has not lost it´s fascination. Always happy landings!

Jochen Kissly Sorry to hear that. I can only judge my own experience having served our customers for more than 3 decades. The vast majority was always satisfied. Of course, people are different. Some people like it, some people don't. When flying with CX, I sometimes hear passengers saying that they actually prefer LH. When flying with LH, I sometimes hear the same people saying they actually prefer CX. And some people are never satisfied. Not only when flying.
@Schrottkralle
@Schrottkralle 7 жыл бұрын
Sorry that you missed the subject of this video in particular. Just for explanation, Jochen, it is not about the service provided on board of various airlines, but it is about the approach of the old Kai-Tak airport in HKG. This was extremely difficult for ALL airlines. I do not know, how many times you had the pleasure to enjoy this exciting approach, but let me tell you, not only the passengers enjoyed it, but also the crew! I am sorry for people who cannot enjoy anything, not only when flying.

*Blau Bär? The vast majoity was always satisfied? Some people are satisfied with very little - but I am sure: When this satisfied LH customesr (LH employees call them "Paxe") just once would have flown SQ or CX 99% would never have gone back to LH. In 1988 a LH stewardess told me " Wir haben es nicht mehr nötig zu verkaufen" - and starting that day I avoided the crane whenever possible. And when my business was low I switched to Aeroflot (SU) - in C class they are fine and the C-class fare is about the fare on Y on LH. Its such simple!
@Schrottkralle
@Schrottkralle 7 жыл бұрын

Wow, 21 years ago this video was made, but to me everything looked contemporary in terms of the cockpit instrumentation which I'm sure to any pilot these days would look at it as a museum piece. I flew on a couple SF to Frankfurt flights with Lufthansa, my first actually in 1998. Enjoyed the service both times, upgrading to business class on each trip. Don't upgrade anymore, airlines ask for too many miles and I want a couple items on their rewards catalog instead! Thanks to Lufthansa for making these informative videos, enjoy all of them and a thanks to the fine flight crew on this ride along flight. I would sure like to see a similar presentation of how flight crews performed flying something like a Super Constellation or even a DC7 back in the day, before all the electronic aids.

Aha! These were the days before the electronic gadgets took over. Following the rudimentary ways of flight briefing through paper and maps. It was the time when more manual involvement was necessary with the aircraft. It was nice to see the Captain helping his crew with her luggage. These were the days when The Mighty Jumbo 747 ruled the skies across the globe until recently the era of A380 has begun. And now even Indian airspace is on VHF.

That was a very enjoyable flight since the flight attendants were very kind to me and made sure that I had an unlimited supply of Heinekens. The flight lasted about 24 hours including stopovers in Singapore and Melbourne, which is still my longest flight in one aircraft although the crew was changed after we arrived in Singapore
