My Lhasa is now 12 years old. Love him sooooo much. Awesome breed, but must admit he is expensive. He has more “beauty salon visits” than me. He also has constant ear and eye problems as he gets older. BUT, I would never ever choose a different breed. He is so obedient and has loads of “attitude” and personality. I actually think he may have trained us, rather than us training him. He is awesome! 😀

So sorry for all your losses.. I found this in a comment on Reddit and it gave me so much comfort - What's getting me through is remembering the good times. Because in those moments, I remember that I gave him the BEST life I possibly could. He knew I loved him and he loved me for it. I'm sad because I miss him but man, did that dog have a great life! And I am so lucky to have known such a beautiful soul. Hang in there! You've got wonderful memories that will last you a lifetime. "When tomorrow starts without me, we're not so far apart. Just remember the paw prints, I left within your heart."

Same here. I had a beautiful, sweet, stubborn, fearless, mind of her own girl Lhasa named Goo Goo who I lost in 2000 after 14 years of loyal affection and love. Never recovered from losing her. Never "had" a other dog. Always missed to this day. Irreplaceable. The best. Lhasas inspire great love. I hear Lhasa owners with the same story all the time.

Our Maxwell is six and he fits the breed to a tee. Wary, alert, and a big dog in a smalist body. When he barks, which is seldom,you would think there is an 80 pound dog behind the door.. The Lhasa is alpha dog. Love this pooch.

He has gone when he was 13 years old...I feel he gave his strength and life to me, when I was back from serious sickness from hospital , my little Lhasa was very sick.... 9 years since he has gone , I still feel extremely painful whenever I think of him. Ms WhoDat: You are wrong. Lhasa Apso are, and have been used as watch dogs since before Christ walked the Earth. A guard dog is one that is trained to protect, like a German Shepard, Rotty, Doverman...

I have 2 lhasa apsos called Lexi&Pepper. Lexi is the most stubborn dog ever. She's protective, so loyal and the sweetest most cuddly thing ever. She acts like a rottweiler, not a little fluffy thing. She has a big, loud bark, my neighbours thought I'd bought a german shepherd and were surprised to see such a little thing. My younger one, Pepper, is the sweetest, most obediant, kindest, lovingest thing ever. I love them both so much&they are so different. I couldnt imagine life without a lhasa!
@andy766610 жыл бұрын
I think the name literally means "Barking Sentinel", which makes perfect sense given the Monks used them as guard dogs (more like "alert dogs"). They yap robotically at the slightest sound at night, especially when they're younger - a lovely breed of dog!

I have had two Lhasa’s for 1 year and a half, the girl just had 4 pups 11 days ago. Yes they have this personality but if you give them time they do what you want and run after you, your generalising for the breed. X it’s lovely no matter what but there so easy to train if you have time and don’t try, just get them doing what makes you happy. X they will do anything you ask them, I just don’t want my dogs to be performing monkeys like there dad lol xx

I want a black, gray or dark colored Lhasa. They're more expensive though. No matter the color, I want a dog that can stand guard of the house and can tell the difference between a stranger and a neighbor. Lhasas seem to be so good at recognizing friends, my aunt's dog would see my grandma across a lake and get excited to see her, even though my aunt couldn't see her.

yes, it’s odd. i always did the sit, beg for treat, etc stuff with my dogs. my apso, tho...he just seems like a little person. over thanksgiving an in-law said, out of the blue, "i feel like a little boy is looking at me, not a little dog.’’ it’s uncanny, and it makes me respond to him more like a little man than a dog (not to say we don’t go on walks and play fetch, because he loves those). and he definitely picks up on words faster than any dog i’ve ever seen.

Woman in video did not even look at the young maid opening the door and taking her bag, but went ga-ga over the dogs, showering them with affection. Ok, I'm an animal lover too, and long time dog owner of large and small breeds. I also lived my childhood in India. However, you need to acknowledge your domestic workers before you do your dogs. Clearly, the dog is on a higher plane than the human beings who work for you. You did not even look at her, or smile, or say anything! Shame on you. Stop treating the dogs like pampered and spoiled children. They need to know their place in the hierarchy of your household. Its good that you take care of them but you need to acknowledge the other people in your household too, BEFORE you greet your dogs. So typically Indian, to treat servants like they are invisible. They are not! And yes, the Lhasa Apso is an old breed, and close to the wolf. But it is also a stubborn dog, barks a lot due to its guard dog genetics, certainly not high on the intelligence scale, and a pain in the neck to housebreak for potty training. So, lets put things in perspective. Its a pretty dog, but not athletic, and not highly intelligent, and god-awfully hard to train at anything except barking. You need a set of hearing protectors with that sharp yap all day, not to mention grooming costs. State the facts, not your biased opinion on the family pet.

wow! so judgemental!!

I agree that the Lhas Apso is a territorial and barky dog. However, they can be quite athletic and will hike several miles, 3 to 9, in the mountains. I often think they hike even more miles than we do chasing pica and birds. I have seen them climb nearly vertical rocks and trees.
@TheZach439 жыл бұрын
+Lass-in Angeles I have to agree - it was the first thing I noticed in the video. From the look of the house and furnishings the woman has plenty of money, so probably from an upper caste in India. They definitely look down on lower castes. Sad behavior.
