OMG. this toy is a masterpiece! thousands of mechanical parts, wires, magnets, computers.. all working together like a classical simphony. how can they accelerate particles that passes at the speed of life (99,99999991%) with a controller that cannot be more faster? How to shynchronize? How they do the revelation? It's amazing. It's simply wonderful. Those guys working in the experiment are lucky people.

The direct total LHC project cost is £2.6bn, made up of: the collider (£2.1bn), the detectors (£575m). The total cost is shared mainly by CERN's 20 Member States, with significant contributions from the six observer nations. The UK pays £70m per year as our annual subscription to CERN.

They usually bombard certain materials with photons (e.g. lasers) to split off the require particles that then get injected into the accelerator ring with the help of magnets. To make sure the particles are (to a high degree) alone in the tunnel, they pump out all the air. The LHC is gonna an immensely good vacuum.

Space and time is not an illusion, they are units of measurement that used to show the relativity between objects much like all measurements do. If I moved at a "snails" pace when I was walking, you would most likely characterize that as slow because your generalization of time is perceived by your environment. Your environment is characterized by yourself or objects around you which make you interpret your volume of "space". 120 liters, 40 meters, and 20 seconds.

That's not the comment I quoted from, go back and read what you wrote before. You have to be a troll, you're just stating uneducated statements to try and keep the argument going. There isn't enough matter inside the ring where the protons would be crashing to create a black hole or at least allow it to grow, if there was then the protons would be crashing into other atoms before it even got the the first stage of the LHC, there isn't ANY matter in there because it is a VACUUM!

Why are you still arguing?! The mass of the proton, even at that speed, is still not big enough to create a black hole that can destroy LHC. I just don't understand why you are getting so angry about this. Like I said, you believe what you want, I'll believe what I want ok?

The collisions that will take place at the LHC occur all the time in the upper atmosphere due to cosmic rays. So no, they aren't playing Russian roulette. It always amazes me how people who don't know anything about science at all suddenly become experts as soon as a doomsday scenario is mentioned.

@from212 It is a fact that you a comprised of elements in quantities proportionate to their natural occurrence in the universe (baring helium, which is chemically inert). You are based on carbon, one of the most chemically active elements. That it binds with other elements isn't odd, nor is it a coincidence. If you look for miracles, you will probably find them; if you look for answers, you will probably find them.

I just love how they say this shit like they are 100% positive they are completely right. Then they come back like a couple hundred years later like "Pluto isn't a planet. We're sorry. Using the idea of the LHC, time travel is possible much easier then flying around a sun really fast. I think it's possible by colliding magnetic fields together. Positive against positive give forward travel. Negative against negative gives backwards travel.

Although it is true to say that some concepts of God are unfalsifiable, it does not follow that all God concepts are. For instance, a God where the world was the top of his head can be shown to be false quite easily. Similarly we can use archaeology, cosmology, geology, physics, and biology to examine biblical history. Ppl share ape DNA thus origin, Biblical history very incorrect, Universe 15^9yrs old, mean that Yahweh story is falsified. I am an atheist, but I like to think of truth as God.

In my opinion, what is money - to this project? this is life, we have evolved to find out about life, and yet, the next bigger LHC will take a couple of decades due to funding? why? becuase rich people don't want to donate to science, i guess they just know/don't want to know about it. Or maybe they just like appearing in the 'richest person of the year' books (sarcastic exaggeration of course).

@from212 I fail to see how it is closed minded. You cannot know what came before the big bang singularity, that does not, therefore, give you carte blanche to make something up. An argument from ignorance isn't saying that your assumption is ignorant, it is saying that you are basing your assumption on a lack of knowledge. How do make the assumption that life is some great anomaly? Describe to me what "consciousness" is.

"so how did the big bang, well...bang" science has only brought us to just after the bang occurred...there are only hypotheses' about before this. To throw a god in for the explanation of before this moment is just asinine and archaic. The more science moves on the smaller and more irrelevant the "god" hypotheses becomes.
