One tip I learned ad stick to is to try the lock before reinstalling the screw. Lock it and unlock it to make sure everything works, then put the screw back in.

Mine wouldn't open because the core wasn't seated all the way down. Key could turn but it wouldn't open. I thought I was going to have to try to bypass it but that wouldn't work with the z bar in it. I ended up tapping (softly hitting) the core with a bump hammer. I pushed down on the shackle and turned the key back and forth several times and it finally popped open. The z bar is pretty banged up but I ended up getting it put back together correctly. Figured I'd pass on the info to maybe help out someone else that ends up watching this video hoping to rescue their Abus. Your video helped me even though it was a different problem, nice videos.

A tip for anyone struggling to find a good wire, use music wire. I used .047 thick music wire i got from hobby lobby for $2. Thin enough to fit basically any keyway but strong enough to do the job. Thanks for the video!

Love your work mate... I just had a rookie moment and did the same thing... And here's your awesome video, with only 3200 views just waiting to save my ass. You win the internet for me this week. Well played.

Amazing how creative we can get, especially to overcome our own mistakes. When I first started picking Abus 83/45 cylinders, I was very much a Locksport greenhorn beginner. I made some incredible screwups while repinning that cylinder. Ended up ruining a couple beyond repair. But on a couple of them, I saved the lock. I like the pinning window. But back then a few times I turned the core too far in the wrong direction and ended up getting the detent button stuck in a driver pin chamber.

A free tool that can be used on all kinds of applications: Bicycle wheel spoke. Free, because you can pick some up at any bike shop. They have used, broken spokes by the dozen.

This is why you always insert the core into the lock body, close the shackle and test the key BEFORE you put the screw in.

My 83/45 isn't missing its cam follower, it was just donated to me as part of a pile of assorted padlocks with no keys. Guessing this bypass trick isn't going to work if the actuator cam is still engaged with the plug. Gonna have to open it the hard way.

This video action will work easily if you make the wire tool toe slightly too long to fit the channel, leave it not quite bent all the way so that it will fit in the channel, then tap it in until the tip bends over and then you can cam the dogs easily.

Very Nice - Let me know if you can "RESCUE" my ABUS 83/55. DESTROYED it on GUT and repined for Pin 1+ 2 and of course since I have ZERO experience with cam It's INOP!

If you cut the tool so that it is slightly too long to fit through the channel then straighten it slightly it will go through. Then hit it a bit until the tool shaft is inserted a little more this re-bends the tool so that the toe sticks out as far as it did before you straightened it which makes it much easier to catch the dogs on the cam lock. Once you turn the cam dogs and the hasp/shackle opens re key as normal. Try this and then make a new video with another self induced malfunction.

+Leon's lockpad thank you. It was painful turning the key, not having it open and realizing how much of an idiot I am. I know there's other idiots like me out there with busted locks they can fix with $2 of metal from the hardware store and a bit of ingenuity. Cheers!
