To the people who say her accent is horrible and you can't understand her English: Anyone with decent English should have no trouble understanding the basic English that is being spoken right there, regardless of accent. If you are good at English, picking up the meaning in any accent should be effortless. I understand if English is your second language and you are not used to other non-native English speaking accents. But this is basic English, and if you couldn't understand what she said, then your English sucks and you have no right to complain about hers :)

Hmm, i can imagine that there might be some problems on vocal lengths and resonants & consonants as heard in her speech; but I'd suggest, that any English mother tongue should have no problems understanding her, as an English non-native (German) I had little difficulties watching it live and cleared the last questions on YT, it indeed isn't that hard. Besides that, I'll miss her on the '15 AusOpen, hoped to see her there again after this year's long break. But I like her plans of “opening the Li Na Tennis Academy, which will provide scholarships for the future generation of Chinese tennis stars.” Hopefully we may see her off-court in Melbourne, perhaps aside with Annabel & Mats?

***** really? when you call Serena as "an incredible human being" are you referring to the time when she promised to kill a referee, or to the time when she was defending some rapist? I do think Li Na is an angel compared to Serena, and people like her deserve to win and be respected
@learntospellpeople10 жыл бұрын
***** She looks nothing like 'an animal'. Your repulsive racist bs won't fly. I am not a fan (haven't watched tennis for years) Williams is (& will always be) a champion, a remarkable tennis player, & person who has done more with her young life than you ever will.

rk Someone had to say what lots of people were thinking: that girl put herself in that position. And Serena didn't defend a rapist. She warned girls about leaving their drinks during parties, drinking too much during a parting, and also alluded to the fact that the girl put herself in that position. It's call common sense. That girl had NONE.

But she has poor PR skill. Recently Chinese officials congratulate her by offering her with flowers and monetary rewards. Yet she reacted negatively and during the whole period with the officials , she put on a 'black' face . Yes, she may dislike this kind of occasion, but still she has to adapt to people whom she she does not like. It's not asking her to flatter the officials Just act normal and be nice. That way, she will make less enemies.
@charmainewoo652010 жыл бұрын
NangongReng1973 She got where she is by openly challenging those officials instead of forcing herself to flatter them. If she had "act(ed) normal and be(en) nice" she would never have been able to take part in the "Fly Alone" program.

NangongReng1973 No, just no... You have a slave mentality.
@NangongReng197310 жыл бұрын
Charmaine Woo You know how come there is so much problem in this world. It is because the parties involved do not want to give in to one another, resulting in wars,riots and others. Li Na is a professional. She should know how to conduct herself well because there are a lot of fans who see her as a model. Why must she go against the officials when the officials are giving her rewards? If she does not like it, then reject going.Not accept people's reward and then trying to look frustrated. There are a lot of small minded people around and they can 'backstab' her if they are offended. I am saying this only for her own good.
@juliusmalaysia10 жыл бұрын
NangongReng1973 She has poor PR Skill ? You don't get it do you ? She had just arrived home after a 10 hour flight, and the Chinese officials ambushed her with hugs, flowers and money.....to make themselves look good. Also.. "She has to adapt to people whom she does not like"....in the free world, if we do not like a person, we do not have to 'adapt' to them. Enemies ? yes, maybe three red faced officials...Friends? Millions

why most( not all) the english natives speakers find so difficult to understand what a non english native speakers is traying to say? for us ,non english native speakers is very easy to understand any person who is traying to talk to us in our languege, or even when they chat, and they miss a word, or wrong spelling, is quite ok for us to understand when they are trying to give the idea and the meaning. for example, my native lenguage is castellano, and whoever english native speakers is trying to talk to us, and have at least basic castellano, is quite easy for us to get the meaning. also those who english is their second language is quite easy to understand those who also have english as second language, am very sorry for those native english speakers that cnot understand us, even worse, never try to. btw, congrats to Li Na, great players, person, and easy to understand what she is saying since lenguage most not be translated literally,but interpreted.

Grun Smith im guessing Winterbreeze meant that since China is very oppressive and their athletes are drilled from an early age to achieving goals to the point where they have very little to no personality, through no fault of their own. It's actually pretty impressive
@jzvr58428 жыл бұрын
+TheMemzie99 China isn't "very oppressive", at least not any more than the West, in fact it is a lot less oppressive than the West. Chinese athletes train at a young age just like Western ones, and they have more personality than the ones you are used to seeing if you can understand Chinese and watch their Chinese interviews/follow them on Chinese social media, just like how the ordinary Chinese has more humor than ordinary people anywhere else in the West I've been to. People who think this way have been totally brainwashed by your media+government, you don't know the first thing about China.
@jzvr58428 жыл бұрын
+TheMemzie99 To us, Li Na's level of confidence, grace and her type of personality are nothing out of ordinary, all in fact very common in China, very humourous to see how surprised some of you are, and sad at the same time to think just how brainwashed some are and you don't even know it.
