The emperor did absolute shit to avenge Ruyi. All he ever did was take her presence for granted and throw her under the bus whenever it was convenient for him. He never protected her from his mother like he promised he would before she married him. He didn't protect her from the first empress and the other concubines. He was always quick to believe others and punish her. He was always full of excuses. He didn't deserve her at all. What an awful and despicable man.

What is this man’s problem with women sent by the empress dowager? She has always been on his side and is even some he seeks advise from sometimes but he has such a vicious nastiness to any women that she sent. The worst women in his harem have always been women he’s chosen (except Ruyi). He handpicked consort Ling and she killed several of his children.

True... but what he wanted was the Empress Dowager not to influence state matters and control him, just like the situation with her daughter, she was using one of her ''spies'' to make sure the Emperor didn't send her second daughter away to Mongolia, because she had already done so with her first. Imperial Concubine Qing, Imperial Concubine Mei and Consort Shu (although Shu didn't want to spy on him because she was in love with him and didn't care for court affairs) in his eyes, they were ''working'' for her and not being there for him. Like he said once ''I hate being lied to and having people calculating my every move (decision). Not excusing him of course, he could've been more forthcoming as well, he treated ALL of his women badly. 😒😒😒

Because the Empress Dowager is not his birth mother, so he has always been wary that she will control or influence state affairs and spy on him through harem women sent by the Empress Dowager

U do realise most of this is adaptation? But in matter of real court, where the emperor may not often meet and discuss matters of the state with the dowager( as it is out of her position to do so), he can only be suspicious of any person she sent over. Those concubines have an official title and heirachy and each promotion/demotion, addition/removal will affect opinions at court. The officials may push a real issue ( village attacked/floor/famine) just with an excuse like this concubine should not be promoted, etc. It's a matter of politics. Some may even try to gain the concubine's favor with the intention to remove the emperor and use his kid as a puppet emperor to ascend. There have been many cases in the past where Concubines rose to such prominent power, they actually are ruling

@@qalaquendi2 I do, some things are adaptions, others derived from reality, I know this is just a TV drama...and yes, the matters of the court and the harem were exclusively handled by the Emperor and there were protocols for the officials and rules for the Consorts/Concubines in order for them to not overstepping or in most instances overthrown him; obviously there were some notable exceptions throughout the Chinese Imperial Family's 2,500 year rule.

IIRC it's because Jia got her maid to trick Mei into thinking the late Empress was behind her child's death. If not that, she'd used her for something else and was tying up loose ends. They also murdered the physicians who were expelled from the Palace after not serving Consort Yu well during her delivery. They had been sent by Jia to hinder a smooth delivery. This way after spending months changing her prescription to cause the baby to be too big. She liked to get rid of people after they were no longer useful. Probably so they wouldn't get caught for something else and snitch on her.
