Here is a hauntingly beautiful piece of work that my dear uncle Liam had composed and gave to me months before he passed.
Instead of having it hidden away in an mp3 disc, I created this video.
The piece itself is in two sections. The 1st being a slow air (Knockaulin) and the 2nd a jig, titled March Of The Clanns.
It is with absolute pleasure that I am able to share these magical tunes for all to hear as both pieces were never commercially recorded.

I had the pleasure of meeting Liam twice, and his death was a shock to the piping-world. I got a lot of tunes from Liam over the years, so it will be a great pleasure for me to add these two tunes to my repertoire. They definitly are his best work. Why he never recorded them will forever remain a mystery. Rest in peace, Liam. You’re very much missed.

Just discovered this, I am a big lover of the pipes and Liam especially. I've loved many tunes he's played, but I must admit this has got to be his best piece of work ever, Lord rest you and love you Liam

Amazing piece of music. I think that Liam O Flynn was the most sentimental musician I've ever heard. Truly talented and very inspiring. He also seemed to be a very kind and humble man. Thank you for sharing this tune and preserving the memory of your uncle. Greetings from Greece!

I met Liam once (with Steve Cooney taking me to his home) and he had us practice some guitar parts with him for a recording he was about to do with Mark Knopfler - it was an experience I will never forget, his pitch perfect and although he was using just whistle or chanter, I was transported to a beautiful place. His album 'The Given Note' has been a constant companion for years now. Thank you Olaf, for posting these tunes on KZbin - they are absolutely superb and epitomize the beauty in his performance. RIP Liam - you've left us exceedingly richer for your music.

Thank you for those lovely words. Yes, when Liam would play either instrument, whistle or pipes, he certainly lead the listener on a journey and could deeply stir the soul with his music. I once read a lovely quote, I believe it was from Joanie Madden, she said, "when Liam O'Flynn played a slow air, by god but he could move hearts" How right she is. It's so nice to know you were over at Liam's place with Steve, lovely story, thank you for that!

Thank you SO MUCH for sharing these. I love the Scottish Bagpipes, but the Uilleann Pipes just make me want to weep, they are so emotive, (must be my Irish half) and when played by a Master they just get you…right in the feels, especially the slow airs. Beautiful.

I really like March of the Clanns and so I looked up online the tin whistle notes, only to find nothing and come back to reread what you wrote, and find it's an original composition by your uncle!
