BREAM FISHING | Gold Coast Canals.

Pre-fishing the Gold Coast canals with my team mate Art Rienstra for an upcoming bream tournament. We set out with a game plan born of experience as we have fished this labyrinth of waterways in a heap of comps over the years. The tides for the tournament were similar to the tides we have in this session so we set out to crack a pattern we can emulate during the tournament. We catch a heap of bream and lose a few along the way, as usual I have packed heaps of information into this vid so you guys can get out there and catch. Cheers for watching guys.

That was an electric session. (Whoops on the bent minnow, doh!) The bream were fierce little guys, would it have improved the bag size to change up to larger lures? Fewer but bigger? Do you ever try Gulp Crabbies in the same situations as the Bream Prawns? You didn't end up using any crank baits around the pontoons? Anyway lots of good family fun, thank you, keep em coming!

Garry Knox Yeah sometimes upsizing the bait can draw bigger bites but on the coast it’s really a finesse thing you need to keep it small and light in most situations but there is always exception to the rule. Mate the cranks and the crabs didn’t end up getting much of a run but some days you just don’t feel it or you get sidetracked just catching. There’s always next time mate. Cheers for the kind words.

paintsy For my soft plastics mate it’s a 7’3” 1-3kg rod with 6-10lb braid and 4-8lb leader dependbon location or how big the bream are.

That's the way guys, whatever works on the small guys will get you the big ones, it's just time. I copped a 40cm bream in the canals last week, on the same lure which caught a 12cm model.

From memory I would have been using Ecogear Aqua Bream Prawn BP50 mate.

Dead stick it typically. Unweighted slow natural sink with no twitches. Sometimes splash it down then walk it across the top to get some attention then stop it dead and let it sink.

Depends on the system but unweighted in the canals and 1/20oz in most other places and just let it sink and watch for the tick.

Depends on the event format mate. Some comps still do live weigh-in others do a catch and photo and use an app to keep track and others do similar without using an app. I prefer a live weigh-in personally mate.

Cody Thornton Yeah bloke we got a bag with a few upgrades. Unfortunately a legal bream measured to the tip of the tail is still a small fish. However the technique used to catch these little guys works just as effectively on the bigger models when you finally put a bait in front of them.
