I bought the GTX280 launch week in 2008 from BFG (rip), completely over engineered cooler and SO many screws, that baby gets HOT. Got Lian Li's black aluminum case soon after that; watching this build takes me back!

Those cards still have better back plates than most of today’s budget cards in my opinion!! Sweet build tbh I’m actually jealous of this! I owned a Q6600 build with a Radeon HD 3870 X2 in 2014 as a gift from my mother. I miss that pc and I’m glad to see another Q series build again! Keep it up!

Lian-Li makes the darnest cases. I bought what I thought was a standard HTPC case back for my server in 2010, and now that 2.5" HDDs are dominant I realized that I can cram a whopping 26 hard drives into that case. What a marvel of mechanical design!

I remember that case; didn;t like it but admired Lian Li's balls... I had that motherboard, it was an "upgrade" for me over my older P5E-WS Pro board.... didn't really need it but wanted it anyway... ran with me for a very long time, can't remember what happened to it... THough at the time I was running a Q6600 at about 3.5Ghz with a Scythe Infinity and two Typhoon fans.... never really put much stock in Zalman, those flowerpot coolers never instilled much confidence in me.

Nice processor QX9770. It can be seen, that socket 775 platform was enough for games in 2008, and handled all graphic cards easily with reserve. Even GTX 280 SLI setup didn't usually stress CPU above 50%. Once overclocked it could be even better, that little thing can power up to GTX 1050ti performance, before it becomes bottleneck. That was nice reserve, up to Keplers GTX 670-680, the man could stand on socket 775 platform with overclocked Q9650 performance, then in 2013 it started to be bottleneck, but that was already time of Haswell i7-4770k and i5-4670k. The first graphic card, where CPU was bottleneck, was GTX 780 (if you dont count GTX 690 of course, as dual GPU card), so precisely said, first single GPU card, that was too fast for Q9650/Q9770, was GTX 780 and first Titan. Of course, from any card, it was GTX 690, that was too fast for this processor.

with an SSD and something like a 1660super you have yourself a pretty okay pc for older games and every day casual usage. i dont know if my parents would notice the difference between it and say a 9900k. i recently tried my old qx9650 with a 2060super and honestly... the experience really wasnt bad at all. web browsing with surprisingly Fast, youtube had no issues. i thought itd be a slow mess. boy was i wrong.. how much different the experience would have been back in the day if SSDs were available like they are today. i bet most casual users would still be using 2500k's if it wasnt for their old spinning platters that slowed the pc down to a halt.
