The egg in the water fortune telling was something i saw when i was a kid in mexico. It was done on new years eve to see what the new year might bring.

Loreena McKennitt has a lovely song called "All Soul's Night" that is about bonfires for Samhain and the spiritualism of this time of year. Her adaptation of Yeats's "The Stolen Child" is great, too, particularly the live version.

now i know the feel of Samhain from the ages. it’s not just a dress-up time. everything means something. the joining of our loves who passed on are really there. lots of candles will have to do for a fire (as i live in New York). but will leave milk by my door. maybe even make a gourd jack o’ lantern. thanks again. :) 🌾🍁🌻🍏🧖🏻♀️🧖🏽🎃

I’ve tried in the past and it always whacks me in the arse. So there you go. When I saw that tv series Outlander, I laughed my head off. I'm Christian but the truth I know about samahin (soween) it was just a way for them to honor their ancestors and loved ones and unfortunately over the centuries became demonized its sad to me it is no different than Dia los Muertos (day of the dead) that mexicans/aztecs celebrate and I also honor all souls day too the Christianized version
