Imagine if those witch trials never happened imagine how much information we would have of the old way's. Wouldn't blame Just Romans but Abrahamic religions back then believing everything was evil that wasn't god inspired even though they killed innocent people's all of those years but not just celts but a cross Europe suffered a similar fate. But not all we're indigenous believers but others may have been like others but accused

People think of the European witch-craze as 'medieval', but it was mostly an early modern creation. But why then, and there? My own guess is that the Catholic-Protestant conflict seemed unresolvable - as per the Thirty Years War. Therefore, a freshly re-invented fantasy of 'witchcraft' would allow the full expression of self-righteous rage - but without dragging Europe into a suicidal civil war. Freud would call it 'displacement' - choosing to fight a small, weak enemy when the real one is too big and fierce.

There's a lot of truth in what you say, but I think it can't be ignored that Christianity has never been comfortable existing alongside religions that preexisted in the lands it spreads to. Christians had been murdering Norse and Celts for their pagan ways, as well as Jews and Muslims in Europe long before the witch-hunts, not to mention their behaviour in later periods in the Americas and Africa, where the fact that the people they encountered could literally be classified as subhuman on the basis of their lack of adherence to Christian norms.

Many of the trials are have historically been revised in fact many who were under suspicion were never under any threat but were merely investigated

Im sure the guard on castle duty rued the day when he didn't check the said cattle for the Scots coming to take back their own . As for the mother i hope she returned to England and told them the Black Douglas let them go unscathed. Great tales of historical Scottish figures . Thanks

I can't help but feel amused at the feud between the Stewarts and Campbells and how it started; they're almost like bickering children, to be honest.
@LiathWolf10 күн бұрын
Many of the long standing clan feuds can be traced back to very childish behavior. Of course this is not ture for all but many would surprise you haha.
@CuteDwarf1110 күн бұрын
@@LiathWolf Ikr? I've read where feuds start because of an unforgivable act by one clan, which is pretty understandable, but some appear to stem from childish behaviour over a minor issue.

There are many great battle stories of the clan, the feud with Robert the Bruce was legendary and they fought alongside Bonnie Dundee at the famous Battle of Killiecrankie. Not to mention there castle at Dunollie is said to be haunted. Hope that helps

The Campbells are the exception that probes the rule when it comes to history being written by the winners. Overall, they did very well for themselves, and grew rich and powerful - yet 90% of the time they're portrayed in stories as the bad guys.
@speurtighearnamacterik823015 күн бұрын
That is because in the end the English and their supporters didn't truly win. It's not exactly a mystery why certain families thrives, growing wealthy and prosperous at the expense of the land and their kinsfolk. The quisling clans that bent the knee to the cult of Christ and those who wore the crowns that cult imposed upon others tried to paint themselves as the heroes of history, but they failed to conquer all they sought to be master of and in the end are recalled only as failed would be conquerors.
