Thanks for posting this. As a Christian, I felt more understood while hearing you talk about the benefits of religion and what it means to people. I too often hear from people who think that religion is trash and it causes more harm than it’s worth. Even if you don’t think think that, it means a lot to actually hear an acknowledgment of the positives. I think that kind of acceptance could do a lot to bridge gaps of polarization in western society.

Correct me if I'm misusing language here but it stikes me that there's a sort of collective psychopathology to the idea religion is a good for the individual and in-group, at the expense of the whole. I would say this is true of Abrahamic religion in my experience as the idea of an external patriarchal god divorced from nature abstracts us from coexistence and interbeing. I suspect this might be less so with other religions, but I'm no general scholar
