I was a liberal during Obama’s term and my son and I decided to attend a Tea Party meeting to see what sort of people attended. To our surprise we were treated with the utmost respect. I have long hair and am covered in tattoos and was really surprised at how welcoming they were. After listening to what they had to say I found out I had a lot more in common with them than the Democrats. I’ve never looked back and sometimes I wonder how I ever bought in to all the socialist crap.

And I had to argue with them and tell them these people were so down to earth and cool and awesome to be with! I went to one also, in Phoenix a few years ago.. After the rally, the "protesters" stood on the other side of the street as we were leaving. We didn't get to talk much. They're paid to be there and protest. Look around. Often you'll see an old guy off to the side. Usually in his 50s or later. He's the socialist running things. There's often a woman nearby with a clipboard. She's taking attendance for paying them. Sometimes you'll see them on MSM camera by mistake. My girlfriend is a liberal and I went with her to a pro-choice rally filled with Liberals to be supportive of her choices even though I don't agree with her. Surprisingly the people there were cool with me even though I'm a conservative. Many of us even went to a bar afterwards for fun and to discuss movies/tv shows. Now this would have probably ended up differently if I went to NY or Chicago, but Florida liberals are pretty cool (at least from my experience in the Jacksonville area).

It's less important that liberals and conservatives disagree on things, and more important that we agree on others. You can spend your whole life looking at the negative aspects of everything, but that will never bring happiness or contentment. When you have a choice to look at the negative or positive, you will be much more comfortable (and tolerable to others) choosing the positive side. Don't give in to the fire being stoked by media and politicians making you dislike people simply for having those differing opinions. And yes, talking to people with alternative or differing ideas CAN teach you something. Anyone who thinks otherwise does not understand the need for diverse thoughts and opinions. That is how the world evolved to where we are today, for better or for worse. Someone out there once said "Huh, I wonder if we rotate crops, will our fields grow more food?" and they did it. If we shut those people down just because we don't want to hear something different, we will never achieve progress. Not saying all liberal ideas lead to progress, I personally don't believe they do... but someone out there might take a portion of those ideas and turn them into something good one day.

Honestly as a moderate I take both parties seriously on there wants. It's not hard to do if you just listen to both sides and don't immediately respond in a reactive way. My own partner is more Republican leaning in certain stances and I am more dem leaning in certain things and then in others it's flipped while most we absolutely agree on. Just give both sides a chance and don't judge based off a select few. There are millions of Americans. Bound to be thousands of bad eggs in each groups.

I've voted left and right (in Australia), but especially over the past few years, I've definitely thought of myself as more conservative. It's hard to relate to radicals on either side (though it does seem there are a lot more on the far left these days) but I think most people, whether they identify as left or right, tend to be more around the middle and I think with them it's easy to find common ground. But I can understand why he's so hard core Liberal, he has live off the Government the last 50 years and hasn't had a job over most of that. He "WAS" a Truck Driver, but got fired and blacklisted because he was trying to bring in a Union to a great Company that took good care of him. He made twice as much $ driving for that Company than I did working for mine! And worked a lot less than I did! His benefits were insane... I've gone No Contact with him because he's so toxic! Even his own grown children have gone NC on him. Honestly, I don't miss him.....
